Keith Richards A Rock’n’Roll Life EDITED BY VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS TEXT BY BILL MILKOWSKI
KEITH RICHARDS A Rock’n’Roll Life Edited by Valeria Manferto De Fabianis Text by Bill Milkowski 208 pages - 25.5 x 29.5 cm 140 color photographs Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0645 2
For half a century he has been the heart and soul of the world’s greatest rock’n’roll band. A riff master of the highest order, his direct, incisive and catchy licks have energized such timeless rock anthems as “Satisfaction,” “Start Me Up,” “Brown Sugar,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Honky Tonk Women.” A disciple of such great guitarists and proto-rockers as Scotty Moore, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters, Keith Richards has forged a personal vocabulary on the instrument that has influenced generations of aspiring rockers. And as the songwriting partner of lifelong friend and frequent foe Mick Jagger, he formed an indelible team that has secured a spot in the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. The personal life of this larger-than-life rock star and bona fide guitar hero has been plagued by heroin addiction and excessive recreational drug use, which transformed his one-time baby face into a grizzled visage that bears the scars of a road warrior’s life. And yet, he is still here. The ultimate rock ’n’ roll survivor, Keith Richards is still rocking and rolling after all these years. VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS is an expert in photo editing and image creation and has supervised the drafting of texts for numerous photographic volumes. Worthy of special note among her accomplishments are the successful CubeBook series; Fidel Castro. El Líder Máximo: A Life in Pictures; John Lennon. In His Life; Fur and Feathers: An Unusual Farm; Lingerie; A Matter of Style: Intimate Portraits of 10 Women Who Changed Fashion; and Rolling Stones. 50 Years of Rock. BILL MILKOWSKI is a Manhattan-based freelance writer who contributes to several music publications, including Jazz Times, Jazziz, Absolute Sound, Jazzthing (Germany), Guitar Club (Italy) and Guitar (Japan). His writing has also appeared in Down Beat, Guitar Player, Bass Player, Acoustic Guitar, Pulse!, MIX and Interview. He is the author of JACO: The Extraordinary and Tragic Life of Jaco Pastorius; Swing It! An Annotated History of Jive; Rockers, Jazzbos & Visionaries; Legends of Jazz ( White Star, 2010). In 2011, he co-authored Here And Now! The Autobiography of Pat Martino. In 2004, he received the Helen Oakley Dance-Robert Palmer Award for Excellence in Newspaper, Magazine, Online Feature or Review Writing from the Jazz Journalists Association and in 2011 received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the JJA.

50 Years of Rock
In His Life
EDITED BY VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS TEXT BY HOWARD KRAMER
EDITED BY VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS PREFACE BY YOKO ONO LENNON
For much of their 50 years, the Rolling Stones have actually lived up to the hyped-up moniker “greatest rock and roll band in the world,” a feat as remarkable as their longevity under the pressures of intense fame, endless touring, substance abuse, death threats, and extreme brushes with the law. The series of essays in this book highlights their key artistic achievements, including significant singles, landmark albums, and spectacular tours. Under a variety of guises – bad boys, jet-setters, exiles, junkies, old guard, and the team to beat – the Stones have faced every obstacle, self-made or not, and always delivered.
This photobiography of John Lennon is dedicated to his artistic career, which began in Liverpool in 1962, and also to his life, which was marked by restless exploration – into art and music, consciousness and spirituality, politics and protest, love and peace. Featuring family photos and reproductions of documents that bear witness to momentous events and the origins of his songs, this compilation, like no other, sheds light on his relationships with Paul, George, and Ringo; his attitudes toward mind-expanding drugs, social revolution, and the Vietnam War; the cataclysmic breakup of the Beatles; and the tenderness of his love for Yoko Ono and their only child Sean.

HEAVY METAL From Hard Rock to Extreme Metal Text by Kory Grow 272 pages - 26 x 30 cm 236 color photographs Hardcover 978 88 544 0656 8
This book is dedicated to Metal, a genre of rock music with aggressive rhythms, powerful sounds and, at times, disturbing themes. It features an in depth reconstruction of the genre’s origins and development, including all the major genres and sub-genres. An important part of the book is dedicated to Hard Rock, from which Metal derives. Indeed, it is not possible to speak of Metal without mentioning its roots, which lie in the classic Hard Rock of bands that made music history, bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. With exclusive pictures and the contribution of experts in the field, this book analyzes the development of these and other Hard Rock groups that played a significant role in the evolution of Metal through their sounds, lyrics, themes, and the trends they set. Specific sections are dedicated to the various types of Metal - Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Nu-Metal, Power Metal, Death Metal and Black Metal. Minor movements and sub-genres of Metal are also discussed, to help readers understand the vastness of the whole spectrum of this musical genre. Particularly captivating graphics, designs, lettering and colors specifically designed to differentiate the various stages of this complex evolution, allow us to distinguish, at a glance, the various themes and appreciate, even at an aesthetic level, the unfolding of a development marked by recognizable milestones and unique atmospheres. KORY GROW is the senior editor of Revolver magazine, the United States’ largest magazine covering hard rock and heavy metal. In his career, he’s interviewed artists ranging from Metallica to Ozzy Osbourne to Avenged Sevenfold to Darkthrone. He’s traveled to Norway to drink with black-metal bands and to Florida to listen to rough mixes of death-metal albums before they were released. He has also written about heavy metal for Guitar World, Metal Hammer, Decibel, Alternative Press, The Village Voice, and more. He lives in Astoria, New York, with his wife and cat.

Tragedies and Mysteries of Rock’n’Roll TEXT BY MICHELE PRIMI
TRAGEDIES AND MYSTERIES OF ROCK’N’ROLL Text by Michele Primi 272 pages - 26 x 30 cm 232 color photographs Hardcover 978 88 544 0677 3
John Lennon said: “We’re going to live, or we’re going to die. If we’re dead, we’re going to have to deal with that. If we’re alive, we’re going to have to deal with being alive.” Is there a curse on Rock ’n’ Roll? Is talent so powerful that it destroys? The death of one of the purest musical talents in recent years, Amy Winehouse, has reopened this and many other questions. The “Club 27” really does exist, and it includes some of the best musicians of all time, very young adults who created works of art but who were themselves overwhelmed by art. This volume tells their story: from the first, Robert Johnson, who is said to have sold his soul to the devil for the gift of Blues, on to Ian Curtis and Kurt Cobain, and passing through the runaway lives of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, the mysterious death of Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, and the fatality of “the day the music died” in 1959, when Buddy Holly’s airplane crashed. There is suicide as the only way to affirm oneself; there is transgression taken to extremes; there is mystery and senseless evil, manifesting in the pistol shot that killed John Lennon. There are stories that read like a detective thriller, like those of Bobby Fuller or Jim Morrison, and the touching human story of Freddie Mercury; there are Bob Marley, Keith Moon, and the absurd destiny that binds Tim and Jeff Buckley; but above all there is a lot of great Rock music. Because, as Neil Young sings in Hey Hey My My, “Rock’n’roll is here to stay. It’s better to burn out than to fade away.” MICHELE PRIMI is a journalist and television writer. He was born in Milan in 1973 and he currently lives in Barcelona, Spain. He writes for Virgin Radio and Virgin TV and he also writes about music and Rock’n’Roll culture for the magazines Rolling Stone Italia, GQ and Riders. He is the author of the monograph Queen and he has contributed to the book Legendary rock songs published by White Star.

Legends of Jazz
Legends of Rock
PREFACE BY JOE LOVANO TEXT BY BILL MILKOWSKI
The artists, instruments, myths and 50 years of youth music
Arguably America’s most profound cultural contribution, jazz has evolved for over a hundred years since its birth in the ethnic gumbo of New Orleans at the dawn of the 20th century. Like a mighty river, it has wended its way over time through geography, style, and mood, forming numerous tributaries along the way. This elegant volume is a portrait gallery of 50 eminent legends spanning jazz history, from Jelly Roll Morton, perhaps the inventor of the art form, to contemporary axman Joe Lovano, who contributes a foreword. Each figure is featured in handsome vintage photographs and a pithy, revealing biography.

More Than Just a Kiss The greatest love movies TEXT BY ROBERT MARICH
MORE THAN JUST A KISS The greatest love movies Text by Robert Marich 288 pages - 26 x 30 cm 186 color photographs Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0572 1
This book presents a collection of the greatest love movies, etched in the public’s mind for their romantic stories featuring famous actors, framed in epic surroundings, and delivering memorable words. Fifty memorable films, from the black and white era to today, are handsomely presented and analyzed in words and pictures. The book explains their enduring appeal, provides entertaining insight on the talent that made them, and points out little known but fascinating bits of their history. The sophisticated atmosphere of English Patient, elegiac style of Out of Africa, and pageantry of Shakespeare in Love. The book has plenty of star power provided by Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Tom Cruise, Meg Ryan, Richard Gere, Hugh Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart and others. And then there are the words that inspire the romance! From When Harry Met Sally…, the Meg Ryan character captures the sad plight of wounded hearts on the rebound with “The first date back is always the toughest, Harry.” And a non-sensual phrase from Casablanca somehow resonates forever with moviegoers as a romantic/tragic farewell in “Here’s looking at you kid.” Film journalist/analyst ROBERT MARICH, who authored the book Marketing to Moviegoers, has a quarter century experience writing about film and media. His article have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Variety, Hollywood Reporter and London-based Screen International. Marich recently finished editing and revising the latest edition of a college textbook about the music industry. Now based in the New York City area, he has covered film while living in Los Angeles, London and New York.
The series is also available in reduced format: 21 x 24 cm

Shangri-La Along the Tea Road to Lhasa PHOTOGRAPHS BY MICHAEL YAMASHITA The legendary Chamagudao, the Tea-Horse Road, winds through dizzying mountain passes, across famed rivers like the Mekong and the Yangtze and past monasteries and meadows in a circuitous route from Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces in western China to the Tibetan capital city of Lhasa. Actually a network of roads, trails and highways, rather than one distinct route, the Chamagudao once stretched for almost 1,400 miles (2350 km) – a conduit along which the historic trade between the mighty Chinese Empire and the nomadic Tibetans linked remote villages and ethnic groups. The Chinese military needed strong horses for their wars against Mongol invaders from the north, and the fiercely religious Tibetans desired tea both for sacred rituals and sustenance. Once tea was introduced into Tibet around the 10th century, demand for it grew. Tea soon became fundamental for Tibetans, especially when combined with their other staple, yak butter. But with Tibet’s extreme temperatures and altitudes, tea cultivation on a large scale was impossible. This set the stage for the tea-horse trade, which flourished from the 11th century, along the Chamagudao, and went on until the 1950s. Today, a homely caterpillar infected by a parasitic fungus has replaced the horse trade in Tibet. The yatsu gonbu is prized for its medicinal qualities. Now Tibetan nomads drive Land Cruisers and motorcycles instead of riding horses, thanks to the profits they make collecting and selling the miracle mushroom worth more than gold. So trade continues, even though relics of the tea-horse trade are becoming harder to find. Following the Chamagudao, this book is a rare and enchanting look into the changing world of Tibet – both ancient and modern, sacred and secular, the rarefied and the gritty – before the legends and mysteries of the Tea-Horse Road disappear into the Tibetan mist. MICHAEL YAMASHITA has been a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine since 1979. He has received several industry awards, including those from the National Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year, the New York Art Directors Club, and the Asian-American Journalists Association. ELIZABETH BIBB is a writer and editor who works in both magazine and book publishing. Bibb is a frequent collaborator with her husband, photographer Michael Yamashita.

Aroma of the World A Journey into the Mysteries and Delights of Coffee TEXT BY ELISABETTA ILLY
AROMA OF THE WORLD A Journey into the Mysteries and Delights of Coffee Text by Elisabetta Illy 216 pages - 26 x 30 cm 175 color photographs Hardcover with Jacket 978 88 544 0716 9
Coffee is the best known beverage in the world, but its origins are shrouded in mystery. What we do know is that the plant’s native soil is Ethiopia and that from there it crossed Africa and reached Arabia. It spread to Europe in the seventeenth century and was then shipped to the Americas and the Far East. From the nineteenth century coffee became a global beverage and its success has shown no signs of diminishing since then. Elisabetta Illy has written a book combining a travel journal, describing areas where coffee is cultivated (Ethiopia, India, Brazil and Colombia), with the stories, rituals, and traditions associated with coffee preparation. The coffee bean is the undisputed star of the book and in order to provide a picture that is as rounded as possible, the author also discusses its social impact, its relationship with our physical and psychological health and the tasting techniques that bring out the infinite array of subtle flavours of an espresso and other kinds of coffee. The book also provides tips on how to make a perfect coffee in the home and how to identify a properly made espresso in a café. From moka and filter coffee to Turkish coffee and coffees made with the Napolitana percolator and with the melior system, the author also examines the customs in various countries that make coffee drinking a veritable rite. A rite which can be repeated in the kitchen too, to make Gianfranco Vissani’s exclusive creations, which turn the coffee bean into an important ingredient in amazing recipes both sweet and savoury. ELISABETTA LATTANZIO ILLY was born in Trieste in 1966 and graduated in International Economics at Trieste University in 1990. She has been a journalist since 1999 and writes regularly for BMM (a quarterly magazine on culture and lifestyle), Monsieur, SpiritoDiVino and I Viaggi del Sole (a monthly supplement of Il Sole 24 Ore).

Italian Cuisine Signature Recipes EDITED BY ACADEMIA BARILLA PREFACE BY DAVIDE OLDANI The most difficult task is choosing. This is because in Italy the diversity of natural environment and historical evolution has contributed to create a culinary wealth that is without equal anywhere in the world. The Italian peninsula stretches from high mountain peaks, streaked with glaciers, deep valleys and lakes, to the vast plain of the great River Po, proceeding over the gentle slopes of the Apennines and then down along the sea-lapped coast. This abundance of geographical conditions and climates is the reason for Italy’s infinite variety of meats and fish, cheeses, cured meats, mushrooms and truffles. From this vast treasure trove, the Academia Barilla chefs have chosen the most characteristic ingredients and the tastiest recipes to offer the best of this cuisine to those who love good food: a unique experience for all the senses and for all tastes.

CATALOG 2012 - 2013 DREAM TRAVELER
100 Dream Adventure Trips JASMINA TRIFONI “Adventure is worthwhile in itself” said the aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Roald Amundsen, one of the most intrepid explorers in History, put it much more prosaically when he declared that “adventure is just bad planning”. Whichever way you look at it, the spirit of adventure is intrinsic in all of us; it is just a question of finding the right key to unleash it. And that is precisely what this book proposes to do with a collection of 100 adventurous journeys to the four corners of the Earth, on foot or by bicycle, by sailing boat or by off-road transport or even by more “exotic” means of transport, to plunge into the wildest forms of Nature or to encounter peoples who are very different from ourselves, and even to test our physical limits in extreme sports. Some of the adventures included in the book only last a few days, while others are epic journeys – in the Amazon Forest, along the Grand Trunk Road, the “travelling continent” between Pakistan and India or across the ice of the Antarctic – that will be remembered as once in a lifetime experiences. The chronicle of each one of these journeys, all of which are truly special, is accompanied by spectacular pictures and practical information and advice because, as Amundsen said, a perfect adventure must be well organized. JASMINA TRIFONI was born in 1966 and graduated in Political Science at the University of Padua. She is a journalist who is specialized in the field of tourism and worked for ten years in the editing department of Meridiani. She is now a freelance journalist and writes for the major Italian magazines in the sphere. Together with Marco Cattaneo, she wrote Afghanistan: le donne, la guerra, l’Islam (Afghanistan: women, war and Islam, 2001), in collaboration with Emergency. Trifoni and Cattaneo have also written the work on Unesco World Heritage Sites in three volumes – I Tesori dell’Arte (The Treasures of Art, 2002), I Santuari della Natura (Nature Sanctuaries, 2003) and Antiche Civiltà (Ancient Civilizations, 2004) as well as Grandi città del mondo (Great Cities of the World, 2005) and 80 Isole dove fuggire… e vivere felici (80 Islands to Escape to...and Live Happily Ever After, 2012) for White Star. She is a traveler both by profession and by vocation and has gained considerable ethnic and cultural experience, particularly in India, the countries of Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Journey into Mystery Through the World’s Great Enigmas PREFACE BY ROBERTO GIACOBBO TEXT BY GIULIO DI MARTINO The beauty of our planet constantly overwhelms us on every trip we take. But there are special places that can literally enchant us: the ones where we discover traces of lost ancient civilizations, of secrets that have been kept for centuries, of treasures never found. This volume is a journey into wonder, into mystery, into the great questions that have always accompanied humankind: What was there before us? What is the history that we do not know? A journey through places that are often inaccessible and breathtaking, an adventure made of stories and photographs that compose an image of a planet rich in stories waiting to be revealed: from the depths of submerged ruins off the coast of Japan to the staggering heights of the Egyptian pyramids, from the timeless faces carved on the Moai on Easter Island to the secrets of the Vatican. A book for learning, but also one for arousing new questions. A book for dreaming beyond the boundaries of knowledge. ROBERTO GIACOBBO lectures of New Media Theory and Techniques at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Ferrara. His career in television began in the early 1990s as screen writer. Since May 2003, he has been the script writer and presenter of the program “Voyager – ai confini della conoscenza.” The program has won a large number of national awards for communication and television production. GIULIO DI MARTINO graduated in Theoretical Physics from the University La Sapienza of Rome. After a period of research work at New York University, he returned to Italy to write about science for the major popular magazines. He began collaborating with RAI at the age of 25 as a new media consultant. Since 2003 he has been writing scripts for the program “Voyager – Ai confini della conoscenza,” traveling all over the globe to produce documentaries on the most fascinating mysteries of history, science, and archaeology. One of these – “l’Isola di Pasqua” (Easter Island) – is to be published by Giunti Editore. He also writes for films and television dramas.

80 Islands to escape to... ... and live happily ever after TEXT BY JASMINA TRIFONI True as it may be, as the poet John Donne said, that "No man is an island", it is equally true that for Man, an island - in the philosophical sense, as well as the geographical sense - symbolizes the ultimate escape destination for a dream vacation or the dream of a lifetime on holiday, far away from everything and everybody. The book, 80 Dream Islands indulges this innate desire in all of us. The islands selected from the five continents, have a common denominator: the beauty of the sea, a mild climate and the fact that together they offer a variety of landscapes, cultures and sensations that can satisfy any desire. From the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, via the Caribbean, this "inventory for dreamers," features in words and stunning images, famous locations renowned for their luxury and worldliness and secret hideaways to live like Robinson Crusoe even in the twentyfirst century, places that are rich in history and others where the only distraction is the music of Nature. In short, a book that is an irresistible invitation to travel. Even if it is just with your imagination. JASMINA TRIFONI was born in 1966 and graduated in Political Sciences at the University of Padua. She is a journalist specialized in the sphere of tourism. For ten years she worked in the editing department of Meridiani. She now works as a freelance journalist and contributes to the major Italian magazines in the field. Together with Marco Cattaneo, she is the author of Afghanistan: le donne, la guerra, l’Islam (2001), published by Emergency. She has also written the three volumes on - I Tesori dell’Arte (2002), I Santuari della Natura (2003) and Antiche Civiltà (2004) - from the Unesco World Heritage List as well as Città del Mondo (2005), all published by White Star Publishers. She is a traveler both by profession and by vocation and has gained considerable ethnic and cultural experience, particularly in India, the countries of Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Super Cats PHOTOGRAPHS BY FABIO PETRONI TEXT BY FLAVIA CAPRA How do you distinguish a British Shorthair from a Chartreux? And a Maine Coon from a Norwegian Forest? Unlike dog breeds, where size is a very important distinguishing feature, in domestic cats, with the exception of a few cases, size is not an instantly perceptible determining factor. The vast range of recognized colours and the difference in coat length, only complicate matters further. As you leaf through this book, you will learn to recognize the traits, the nuances that differentiate breeds, enabling you to recognize them at first glance. And to help you to do this, this book features striking original pictures by Fabio Petroni, a professional photographer specialized in still life photography and a great animal lover. Thanks to his professional skills as a photographer and his emotional proximity to the subjects portrayed, the true essence of cats emerges with effectiveness, accuracy and the right degree of sensitivity. Detailed fact sheets examine more than 40 of the most well-known breeds, giving an in-depth description of the breed standards recognized by the most important international cat associations, and they are complemented by splendid illustrations of the finest specimens on the international cat scene. FABIO PETRONI, after taking up photography, has worked with the top professionals of the sector. His professional career path led him to specialize in portraits and still life, fields in which he distinguished himself for his intuitive and meticulous style. He works with the main advertising agencies and has organized numerous campaigns for prestigious, internationally renowned companies and firms. For White Star, he published Horses. Master Portraits (2010), Mutt’s Life! (2011), Cocktails (2012) and Roses (2012). FLAVIA CAPRA is a qualified international cat show judge and she has transformed her passion into a profession: for years she contributed to the major Italian and foreign newspapers and magazines specialized in this field and eventually became Chief Editor of one of them. She currently works for the Associazione Nazionale Felina Italiana (ANFI, Italian National Cat Association), the only association recognized by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, where she is involved in the registration of cat breeds in the Italian genealogical registers and is in charge of the various operational phases.

48 Reasons why my dog steals my underwear!
48 Reasons why babies and puppies are alike!
TEXT BY JULI-ANN CIALONE
TEXT BY JULI-ANN CIALONE
Many people have asked me how I came up with the concept for this book. Well, to be honest, it is completely the fault of my puggle dog named P. Diddy. One day I walked into my bedroom to see my sweet dog happily atop my bed wagging his tail with my brand new super-expensive underwear wrapped around his snout. Of course he had joyfully ripped it to shreds. I looked at him and with exasperation asked, “WHY???!!!!”. So I began thinking... what would he tell me if he were to answer? And then the excuses began to flow!
After many years of photographing people and pets of all ages, I happened to notice that in particular babies and puppies create about the same level of difficulty when I photograph them. During the sessions, the same tricks work to get their attention: squeaky toys, food bribes, fake coughing, sneezing, clapping and spitting, and of course embarrassing myself by making weird high-pitched noises, barks and squeals. But the end result is always breathtaking – beautiful, bright eyes and stunning expressions from these tiny inquisitive creatures!

Horses Master portraits PHOTOGRAPHS BY FABIO PETRONI FOREWORD BY OLIVIERO TOSCANI PREFACE BY MEREDITH MICHAELS-BEERBAUM The history of horses is tightly interwoven with that of humanity, which owes its equine friends a great deal, from fieldwork to transport, from traveling and discovering to sports. This volume is a tribute to mankind’s tireless companion. Clever use of light, which comes from Petroni’s long experience as a still life and portrait photographer, has enabled him to create original images, with a style that is somewhat unusual for animal photographs—a style that is spectacularly enhanced thanks to the book’s large format. The thing that, above all, has enabled the photographer to communicate so directly the true essence of these magnificent quadrupeds is undoubtedly his emotional closeness to his models, the result of love and knowledge developed over so many years. Here, in front of the camera, are smart, timid, aggressive, proud, indolent, protective, curious, and gentle horses, in an explosion of emotions. FABIO PETRONI lives and works in Milan. After studying photography, he turned professional in 1984, since then he has worked with some of the most famous names in international photography. He works with some of the top advertising agencies and has been involved in campaigns for well known national and international brands. His particular focus is on portraits and still life, areas in which he has demonstrated his intuitive and rigorous style. He is the official photographer of the IJRC (International Jumping Riders Club), and is responsible for the public image of major international horse-riding. OLIVIERO TOSCANI is known as the creative force behind the world's most famous newspapers and brands, and as a conceiver of successful corporate images and publicity campaigns. The recipient of prestigious international awards and recognition, he is Accademico d’Onore at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence. He lives in Tuscany, where he produces olive oil and wine and raises horses. MEREDITH MICHAELS-BEERBAUM is a German horse riding champion. She has been devoted to show jumping since she was a young girl, and has become one of the most successful athletes at both European and international levels. She has won various medals both in team and individual competitions. She was the first woman ever to rank number one in the international show jumping ranking of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI).

Roses PHOTOGRAPHS BY FABIO PETRONI TEXT BY NATALIA FEDELI “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” wrote William Shakespeare. And many other poets and writers have dedicated lines to these beautiful flowers that have always adorned and embellished gardens and houses. Wonderful petals, a thorny stem, warm but at the same time delicate colours and an enchanting and intoxicating fragrance. These are the secrets of the rose, of which, however, the true essence remains elusive. A master of still life photography, Fabio Petroni, has turned his attention to roses in all their infinite manifestations. Through his lens, he has endeavoured to capture those aspects and details that make this flower, the symbol of love, grace, and the most intimate secrets, unique. Spectacular pictures, an elegant editorial format, wonderful close-ups and a final section that features the history and characteristics of the varieties of roses photographed. These are the secrets of this large-format publication, in which roses are the absolute protagonists and in which the pages merge with the petals. FABIO PETRONI, after taking up photography, has worked with the top professionals of the sector. His professional career path led him to specialize in portraits and still life, fields in which he distinguished himself for his intuitive and meticulous style. He works with the main advertising agencies and has authored numerous campaigns for prestigious, internationally renowned companies and firms. For White Star, he has produced Horses. Master Portraits (2010), Mutt’s Life! (2011), Cocktails (2012) and Supercats (2012). NATALIA FEDELI works for Gardenia, the first Italian monthly magazine about plants, flowers and green lifestyle, editing the section on floral decorations, florists, flower designers and artists/craftsmen engaged in the world of flowers. Her cultural background, personal interests and experience have always revolved around her love of nature, and all that is beautiful, two aspects she is also involved in professionally.

A Matter of Style Intimate portraits of 10 women who changed fashion EDITED BY VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS PREFACE BY ANNA MOLINARI, TEXT BY PAOLA SALTARI The pages of this book bring to life ten female icons of style and elegance who have captivated entire generations; even today they are inspirational models of beauty and subjects of fascination. This book is an extraordinary photographic collection of women who have marked the history of fashion, from film stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn to controversial characters like Lady Diana and Coco Chanel. These women helped revolutionize the concept of femininity and, through their personalities and the events in their private lives, featured prominently in the media for years. Stories of unforgettable lives and intimate portraits are celebrated in a book without precedent. ANNA MOLINARI was born and started to work in Carpi where she still lives and works. After finishing school, she started working for her parents’ company, a famous knitwear manufacturer in Carpi, where she acquired experience and perfected her techniques. And this is how Anna Molinari’s fairy tale began. As a designer, she is endowed with incredible creativity and joie de vivre that she transmits to all her collections. PAOLA SALTARI was born in Bondeno, in the Province of Ferrara in 1974. She graduated in political science at the University of Bologna with a thesis on sociology in fashion, then completed her master’s degree in communication at the European Fashion School in Milan, before becoming a professional journalist. Lingerie
The evolution of seduction
EDITED BY VALERIA MANFERTO DE FABIANIS TEXT BY ANNA FOLLI From the crinoline to thigh highs, and from the corset to the G-string you can choose to conceal or to reveal, the important thing is to be liked and to like yourself. In this book, the history of lingerie is seen both for its elegance and from an ironic angle. Starting from the first bodices and corsets which were true instruments of constriction hidden under layers of crinolines, we come to the glittering and theatrical display of lingerie on the catwalks of the most recent fashion shows of Victoria’s Secret.

Pop Art TEXT BY MARTINA ANGELOTTI, WITH VALENTINA CIUFFI AND VERONICA LENZA A pop-tastically compact compendium of art’s most fabulous and irreverent movement
POP ART Text by Martina Angelotti, with Valentina Ciuffi and Veronica Lenza 272 pages - 22.2 x 28.8 cm 147 color photographs Flexibound with flaps and jacket 978 88 544 0579 0
For students of modern art, advertising, and design, this compact overview of Pop Art gathers nearly 200 full-color reproductions of its masterpieces with newly commissioned texts that trace the history of the iconoclastic movement from its origins in the U.K. through its explosion in the U.S. and subsequent European incarnations. Readers are shown how “Popular Art” brought about a jarring break from earlier artistic traditions, as the new power of technical reproduction stripped away their qualities of unrepeatable uniqueness. Featuring a special introductory chapter on Andy Warhol, the genre’s most infamous figure, and brief biographies of each artist represented, the book shows how Pop Art objectified mass-produced imagery from the new media of advertising, Hollywood movies, television, comic strips, and popular literature, deftly and often hilariously breaching the gulf between high and low art.

Automobiles Elegance on Wheels PHOTOGRAPHS BY RON KIMBALL TEXT BY MATT DELORENZO This volume is a fabulous photographic catalogue of a range of important and influential models over a century of automobile history. The vehicles presented in these pages are unrivalled design objects even today. Detailed studio images taken by one of the world’s most famous automobile photographers dramatically present the exceptional characteristics that make each car a work of art, while the brief yet incisive commentary narrates the background and the anecdotes associated with each model. The volume is divided into five chapters, each one dedicated to a specific quality that determines a model’s success: the fun factor, prestige, speed, power, and beauty. The volume’s concluding section presents a portfolio of technical sheets for each model in the book; they are classified according to the five main themes. RON KIMBALL is an internationally acclaimed photographer who specializes in automotive images. Whether he’s shooting the latest concept car or a classic from the 1950s, he brings great flair to capturing the dynamic lines of exquisite automobiles. Hero Dogs Secret Missions and Selfless Service PREFACE BY RONALD L. AIELLO TEXT BY LANCE M. BACON From World War I to the present day, war dogs have served alongside the most valiant warriors in history’s most decisive battles. Like the battlefields to which they are called, the war dogs’ roles have evolved over the years. Missions have varied from landmine and tunnel detection to trackers and scouts. Today, war dogs are a primary asset when locating improvised explosive devices, the No. 1 killer of coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are members of Special Operations teams conducting clandestine missions and they help guard some of the world’s most dangerous terrorists. This photographic book opens with a salute to the history of combat canines of the past century. It then uses illustration and insight to take the reader inside the careful selection process and months of rigorous training required to join the ranks of these elite “military working dogs.” Hundreds of never-before-seen photos reveal the lifelong bonds formed in the heat of battle as tales of selfless service in Iraq and Afghanistan are told by the war dogs handlers and commanders who were there. Many of these war dogs have earned recognition for their heroic actions. Hundreds struggle with wounds and post-traumatic stress. Dozens died in the line of duty. These are their stories. RONALD L. AIELLO served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1970. During this period Ron had the honor of serving with the First Marine Scout Dog Platoon. In the year 2000, Ron and four other Vietnam Veteran dog handlers formed The United States War Dogs Association, Inc., which is a nonprofit organization of former and current U.S. military dog handlers and supporting members. The United States War Dogs Association is committed to promoting the long history of the military service dogs, establishing permanent war dog memorials, and educating the public about the invaluable service of these military working dogs to our country. LANCE M. BACON is senior staff writer for Army Times, an independent weekly newspaper serving U.S. Army personnel and their families. He covers Army leadership, weaponry, training and tactics. His combat coverage in Afghanistan includes an awardwinning piece on the Battle of Roberts Ridge. Bacon has served as city/military editor of the Jacksonville (N.C.) Daily News and managing editor of the Kinston (N.C.) Free Press.

Masterpieces of Modern Architecture TEXT BY VARIOUS AUTHORS Architecture has always been the faithful mirror of society’s most important transformations. By the same token, modern architecture, which has broken away from established trends and has a wealth of technology at its disposal, affirms new values that cater to the psychological and spiritual progress of humanity. This innovative work’s timeline starts with the end of World War II and the ensuing rift in international architecture and urban planning. Through highly informative images, the book conveys the new representative languages of the postwar era, with its need for reconstruction and its quest for a new monumentality, and examines the new trends that emerged up to the beginning of the 21st century. Photography has been used as an extraordinary medium to explore this new world of architecture, with its ethereal and sometimes colossal forms that are utterly rational and surprisingly well balanced. Essays written by experts, accompanied by high-quality photographs that perfectly capture the multifaceted spirit of modern architecture, illustrate the complex tapestry of the international movements of the 20th century, from technological expressiveness to a new modernity, investigating meg-astructures, advanced technology, postmodernism, minimalism and deconstructionism. Sprawling museums and hyperfunctional airports, enormous shopping centers and futuristic libraries, sports arenas and immense university complexes are presented – along with their brilliant creators – on this surprising journey through forms, materials, colours, ideas and symbols. The outcome is an uncommon portrait of our world and the way architecture interprets it. MATTEO AGNOLETTO worked at the architectural firms of Renzo Piano and Jean Nouvel and is the cofounder of ACZ Studio di Architettura. FRANCESCO BOCCIA works as a freelance architect and also contributes to numerous trade periodicals. SILVIO CASSARÀ is an architect. He teaches at Italian and foreign universities, and writes for architectural journals. ALESSANDRA DI MARCO is an archivist responsible for maps and photographs at at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan. GUYA ELISABETTA ROSSO works with the Special Building Projects Area at Milan Polytechnic. MARCO TAGLIATORI is a freelance architect specializing in interior design.

The world’s greatest
World Trade Center
Lighthouses
PREFACE BY MIKE WALLACE - TEXT BY PETER SKINNER
TEXT BY ANNAMARIA MARIOTTI
This volume is an emotional tribute to the Twin Towers, for a quarter of a century a symbol of peace and progress. An entire chapter is dedicated to a dramatic account of its tragic end. Yet World Trace Center is also a message of hope for the future: the book illustrates the reconstruction, and the work underway. Readers will be drawn into the heart of New York, a city that never gives up and is very successfully reinventing itself in a still more thriving form.
This book is dedicated to the most attractive lighthouses in the world, the lighthouses of our dreams, history, legends, films and novels: the small, slender lighthouses isolated amongst the rollers on a stormy coast, reachable only by boat, visited only by seagulls and inhabited by an old retired sailor. This volume describes the individual characteristics, location and history of these extraordinary coastal monuments, now on the way to extinction.

Pompeii The History, Life and Art of the Buried City EDITED BY MARISA RANIERI PANETTA PHOTOGRAPHS BY ARALDO DE LUCA The objective of this book is to bear witness to the importance of Pompeii in the field of archaeology, and to contribute to our body of knowledge about the complex civilization of the Romans. At the same time, it is also an invitation to visit a remarkable site where the past still seems extraordinarily alive. Using the latest scientific research, this multidisciplinary journey explores everything from painting styles to local history, botany and architecture. It investigates public life (politics, the baths, city theaters and the amphitheater), religious life (different types of public and private worship, temples and sanctuaries), the economy (commerce, financial activities and coinage, craftsmanship and agriculture), and the private arena (the world of women, erotic representations, lifestyles, wall inscriptions, funerary rites and the necropolises). A special section is devoted to the eruption of 79 AD, with a description based on the most recent discoveries, and another section takes a look at Oplontis, the most celebrated villa in the suburbs of Pompeii – and legendarily owned by Poppea Sabina, Nero’s second wife. An updated bibliography and a chronological outline conclude this journey back in time. MARISA RANIERI PANETTA is an editor and an archaeologist. She has published archival research and historical essays on Magna Graecia and Rome’s Imperial Age. ARALDO DE LUCA is one of the world’s leading art photographers, he has published numerous works in books, catalogs and magazines.

Ancient Egypt Art and Archaeology in the Land of the Pharaohs TEXT BY GIORGIO AGNESE AND MAURIZIO RE One of the most fascinating regions of Africa, the land that saw the rise and fall of the longest and most enigmatic of the Mediterranean civilizations, Egypt is full of landscapes of breathtaking beauty and artistic masterpieces, from the pyramids of Giza to the Valley of the Kings, from the Temple of Philae to Abu Simbel. Thrilling images combined with original text describe the myriad facets of a colorful and surprising land which the Ancients appropriately called “The Red and the Black, evoking the sharp contrast between the red of the scorching desert wastes and the black silt left by the flooding Nile. Within the pages of this book is an enthralling journey through a country with enduring appeal, savoring the complexity, mystery, and formidable wealth of the land of the pharaohs. GIORGIO AGNESE, a member of the Egypt Exploration Society of London, is also the director of the Genoese Archaeological Group. His research is oriented towards the historical-chronological reconstruction of the Old Kingdom and the Predynastic period with the help of the most recent archaeological discoveries. MAURIZIO RE has been a photographer and freelance researcher in the field of Egyptology since 1985. He is a member of both the Egypt Exploration Society and Astene, a global cultural organization based in Oxford (England) which deals with the study of the 19th century exploration of Egypt and the Middle East.

The Realm of the Pharaohs
Treasures, mysteries and new discoveries in Egypt
TEXT BY ZAHI HAWASS
This volume is a comprehensive and authoritative presentation of the most recent archaeological findings on the Egyptian Pyramids. Illustrated with stunning photographs, maps, plans and reconstructions, the book gathers texts by the world’s preeminent Egyptologists that throw new light on the secrets of the numinous, architecturally magnificent monuments. The book takes readers on a journey of discovery that unveils intriguing insights into the ever-mysterious nexus between heaven and earth for the ancients on the banks of the Nile.
“If you could spend a day at the Giza Pyramids, you would watch the sun rise over the Eastern Desert and see its light caressthe face ofthe Sphinx... Just this one day would convince you that the allure and mystery of ancient Egypt are still alive.” This is how Zhai Hawass, one of the world’s greatest Egyptologists, introduced his journey along the Nile to discover and explore the thousand of years of the civilizations of the pharaos. With pictures by the most prestigious international photographers and charts and explanatory drawings to clarify and supplement text, Hawass eloquently introduced readers to the treasures of ancient Egypt.

Egypt and the Holy Land Yesterday and Today Lithographs and diaries by David Roberts R.A. TEXT BY FABIO BOURBON PHOTOGRAPHS BY ANTONIO ATTINI David Roberts (1796-1864) was born in Edinburgh into a very humble family but, thanks to his artistic gifts, he succeeded in becoming one of the most appreciated landscape painters of his time. After traveling in Europe, in 1838 he departed for Egypt and the following year he visited the Sinai Peninsula, Petra, Jerusalem and Palestine, the Lebanese coast and Baalbek. Using the drawings from his travels, the Belgian engraver made splendid lithographs which made him famous. This is a collection of the original plates, published for the first time between 1846 and 1848 accompanied by some excerpts from Roberts's travel diary. In addition, every illustration is accompanied by a photograph which shows the same view as it appears today. As well as offering a sample of Roberts's techniques and taste, this book is an excuse for a journey in time through the artistic treasures and the wonderful landscapes of Egypt and the Holy Land.

The Art of the Pharaohs
The art of Pompeii
PREFACE BY ZAHI HAWASS, TEXT BY GIORGIO FERRERO PHOTOGRAPHS BY ARALDO DE LUCA
PHOTOGRAPHS BY ARALDO DE LUCA TEXT BY ANTONELLA MAGAGNINI
Thanks to its large format, this magnificently illustrated book shows portraits and monuments that are considered to be artistic masterpieces of antiquity in a new light. It traces the profiles of several sovereigns, presenting an accurate and in-depth picture of the history and art of Ancient Egypt and its undisputed protagonists: the Pharaohs. “King of Upper and Lower Egypt,” “Lord of the Two Lands,” and “Son of Ra,” are some of the titles held by the sovereigns who ruled over one of the richest and most powerful states of antiquity for more than 3,000 years. The history of Ancient Egypt through the millennia is marked by a succession of sovereigns and dynasties.
The catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 freeze-framing a ripe moment in time - bestowed upon posterity an incalculable heritage of art and knowledge in the miraculously well-preserved remains of the city of Pompeii. This volume of lush color images taken by renowned photographer Araldo De Luca, takes readers inside the houses and into the secrets of one of the most charming sites of classical antiquity. Accompanying the photos, which are presented in a distinguished oversized format, are accessible texts that elucidate the daily life, the mythic and heroic imagination, and the religious customs and beliefs of the ancient Romans.

Wonders of the World
TEXT BY LUCIA GASPARINI AND SERENA MARABELLI
TEXT BY FRANCESCO BOCCIA
This authoritative volume traces more than two thousand years of timeless masterpieces that have become universal symbols of the genius of humankind, from the mask of Tutankhamun to “The Scream” by Edward Munch. Organized chronologically, each work of art is presented through a meticulously researched text that analyzes the techniques employed by the artist and places each art work in its historical context. Throughout the book, fine quality photographs from the archives of the world’s foremost museums reveal the mastery of each artist through pictures that depict each work in its entirety as well as details that are discussed in the text.
Organized chronologically, Wonders of the World starts with the pyramids at Giza which were built in 2560 BC and ends with the Experience Music Project in Seattle, a museum of rock and roll memorabilia and technology-intensive multimedia displays designed by Frank Gehry and built in 2000. Among the countless other buildings featured in this book are The Parthenon in Athens, Angkor Thom in Siem Reap, Cambodia, The Taj Mahal in India, The Capitol of the United States in Washington, DC, The Opera House of Sydney, and The Sagrada Família, in Barcelona.

Once Upon a Time in Africa
This large format photography book, with its striking visual impact, is a collection of work by the late Gianni Giansanti. The material comes from his travels in Africa, the cradle of humanity, where ancestral ties to nature still exist. It chronicles the lifestyle and social structure of Ethiopian tribes in the Omo Valley, looking at populations of warriors as well as peaceful peoples, highlighting the pride and strength of these individuals so accustomed to physical hardship and suffering. Enhanced by these extraordinary images, this volume also pays homage to the skill of a photographer who was always present for history in the making.

TEXT AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY ANGELO AND ALFREDO CASTIGLIONI This volume reconstructs, through the almost 50-year career of the two Italian explorers, the deep identity of the Black Continent, from the most ancient traditions to the surprising passing rituals. An important part of the volume is dedicated to the archeological expeditions in Africa, starting with the discovery in the Nubian Desert in Sudan of Berenice Panchrysos, the “entirely gold city of pharaohs.

TEXT BY IAGO CORAZZA, NICOLA PAGANO AND GRETA ROPA PHOTOGRAPHS BY IAGO CORAZZA
The result of years of research, numerous journeys and excellent contributions, this book offers an in-depth view into the fascinating contrasts and the behavior of a population that has always appeared impenetrable to Western curiosity and logic. Hundreds of spectacular and previously unpublished pictures lead directly to the heart of Japan. This is a journey through images and facts that bear witness to a country that can still amaze and fascinate, a country that can ask new questions and provide equally new solutions, in an extraordinary kaleidoscope of preservation and breaking from the past, the clash of tradition and the avant-garde.
A pictorial exploration of a wild and untamed region and of a population untouched by time and nature. Irian Jaya and Papua New Guinea have somehow remained untouched by “civilization”. This volume introduces readers to this place that is the reign of the last men of the earth. This heritage of humanity, which will probably not withstand the advance of modernity, is examined thoroughly in a compelling text written by a journalist who specializes in in-depth anthropological research. Hundreds of specially commissioned pictures taken by a photographer famous for his daring reportage from every corner of the globe bring to life this remarkable vestige of prehistory.

The Pope Who Changed the World Photographs by Gianni Giansanti Text by Valentina Alazraki 176 pages - 26 x 30 cm 111 color photographs Softcover with flaps 978 88 544 0103 7
Gianni Giansanti, who has covered the Vatican for 20 years, photographed John Paul II and Benedict XVI during many public and private occasions. He has created fascinating reports that use the language of photography – an extraordinary instrument that has grasped the expressions and feelings of the two popes – to paint uncommon portraits of these two important figures. The books examine memoirs, new reports, and pictures of their public and private life to show the official face as well as the private and human side of these great pontiffs. What clearly emerges is the multifaceted figure of John Paul II, a charismatic Christian leader who powerfully shaped the last decades of the 20th century, and a truthful portrait of Benedict XVI, ‘the German pope’, with, above all, his extraordinary love of life.

GIANNI GIANSANTI began his career as a freelance photographer in Italy in 1978. He provided exclusive coverage for important events in Italian history and won many international prizes for his reporting. His photo essays often became bestsellers; among the most successful were John Paul II - The Great and John Paul II - The Pope Who Changed the World and Benedict XVI - The dawn of a new papacy, published by White Star Publishers. In 2009, Giansanti also created an exhibit called “Twenty Italians Who Are Changing Italy.” This photographic retrospective, presented in Florence at Palazzo Strozzi, was a great public and critical success.

Surf ! In the water with wave hunters TEXT BY GUILLAUME DUFAU
SURF! In the water with wave hunters Text by Guillaume Dufau 208 pages - 26.5 x 31 cm Hardcover with jacket
Surfing: sport of Hawaiian kings and king of aquatic sports. Practiced since time immemorial in the South Pacific, in the 20th century it has conquered beaches all around the world and given rise to many sports born from the imagination and passion of those practicing it. From windsurfing to kite surfing, passing through bodyboarding or tow-in surfing -which allows surfers, using jet skis, to conquer vertiginous aquatic peaks, impossible to face in the past with just the force of the arms -- numerous technical innovations have allowed the tribe of wave-hunters to increase their numbers. Creative technology goes hand-in-hand with profound respect for the traditional “cavalcades inherited from the past, such as Body Surfing, a movement of the body upon the wave inspired by dolphins, or Standup Paddling, done with a huge board maneuvered on foot with the aid of a paddle. Riders is a magnificent photographic journey through the history of gliding on waves, enriched by testimonies from top champions in each of the disciplines. Originally from Landes, the department in the southwest of France famous all around the world for the quality of its waves, GUILLAUME DUFAU discovered surfing on the beach break waves of Hossegor in the 1980s. In 1997, after his studies in journalism, he became part of the Surf Saga magazine team, becoming editorin-chief a year later at the age of 24. After that, for 10 years he was head of the editing department for the monthly Surf Session, at Biarritz, for whom he produced numerous documentaries from the four corners of the world, particularly Tahiti. A great reporter, he regularly publishes articles on the so-called sport de glisse, travel, and environment, for the French and international press.

The Perfect Storm TEXT BY ORNELLA D’ALESSIO This is a volume rich in powerful images, dedicated to the most overwhelming and intoxicating aspects of the sea, the incredible violence unleashed during storms, and the extraordinary force of waves with their disturbing beauty. The sea is life, pure energy expressed in ways that evoke the most diverse states of mind. The sea is movement. Nothing embodies certain explosive sensations, feelings or uncontrollable urges better than waves breaking on rocks during a storm, or the violence of a storm in the open sea,. This book evokes the voice of the storm through a collection of powerful photographs that arouse strong emotions, both in those who know the sea well through direct experience, and in those who dream of it, like a mirror of their own soul and the expression of multiple states of their own conscience. 208 pages - 28.5 x 33.5 cm 106 color photographs Hardcover with jacket 978 88 544 0576 9 also available in reduced format: 24.5x29 cm

222 Easy Recipes
The ultimate frontier
Italian Cuisine
TEXT BY MARCELLO D'ANGELO
PREFACE BY MICHAEL WHITE EDITED BY ACADEMIA BARILLA
This volume will guide you in a fantastic voyage through the universe that surrounds us, into the mysteries of black holes, into explosions of gamma rays, to the nearby planets and on to the exoplanets. You’ll be accompanied in the crossing by incredible images collected over the years by satellites, orbital telescopes, and the International Space Station, fixed on the incredible moments of the life above us. In this volume you will discover that the universe is still filled with questions and mysteries, continues to expand, and is composed of infinite systems. It’s a universe of unknown limits – if it in fact has limits – and you’ll join the search for those exoplanets lightyears away from the Earth, which modern probes are beginning to explore with ever more sophisticated means, perhaps to realize another dream: to find an inhabited planet, another civilization to which we can compare ourselves. 504 pages - 16.5 x 16.5 cm 392 color photographs - Hardcover 978 88 544 0717 6
This book offers 222 recipes that are quick, appetizing, and delicious – yet at the same time easy – for food lovers with little experience, all designed and tested by Academia Barilla chefs. Minimum effort and maximum flavour: you will enjoy cooking using fresh and flavourful foods right out of the Italian tradition. From appetizers to first course dishes, from main course dishes to original proposals for tempting menus, all using simple and genuine ingredients that contribute to the creation of rich and diverse meals. Collaboration with Academia Barilla – ever committed to the promotion and protection of Italian cuisine throughout the world – represents a sure mark of quality. Guidelines for each recipe are clearly illustrated with step-by-step instructions.

Harley-Davidson
Wonders of New York
TEXT BY PASCAL SZYMEZAK
TEXT BY ALESSANDRA MATTANZA
Since their inception in 1903, Harley-Davidson motorcycles have asserted and established themselves as powerful and reliable motorcycles, quickly becoming an outright myth for fans and lovers of biking. Many of the Harley-Davidson motorcycles have become true “classics” – Hydra Glide, Duo Glide, Electra Glide, Softail, Dyna, Sportster, V-Rod – with reproductions in an endless series of variants, but the sound their Vtwin engine can produce is unique and distinctive. Then there is the universe of customizations: personalized and unique models, for which Harley-Davidson has always been a pioneer and leader. Not to mention the atmosphere of the many rallies, by now spanning the four corners of the globe and uniting an ever greater number of enthusiastic Harley owners. Enriched with texts by an expert journalist/Harley biker and with beautiful images of the Milwaukee motorcycles, this volume is dedicated to all aspects of the Harley-Davidson world, and especially to its most successful models.
New York does not pause and it has no limits, despite being ravished by the wound of the World Trade Center. Its response to this injury was a magnificent rebirth from the ashes, expressed in art, architecture and design. A rebirth that is expressed in new neighborhoods within the city itself, which were born, and which grow and develop from ideas and creativity, from the solidarity of the people, that sense of great freedom, the true strength of the City: the New New York. New York is like an infinite onion, that you discover layer after layer, never tiring of peeling. You get to know it step by step, in the shadow of its breathtakingly tall skyscrapers, its buildings, its townhouses, in the elegance and glamor, in the flavors of cuisines from around the world, in the formality of its museums, in the magic of evocative moments and glimpses of street life.

Africa from Above TEXT BY PAOLO NOVARESIO The savannas of the Rift Valley, the misty mountains of Rwanda, the impenetrable jungles of the Congo, remote villages, the endless Sahara, the sallow courses of the great rivers... Nearly 200 photographs taken from the air during an exceptional documentary gives substance to a book such as never before realized, dedicated to the grazing lights and pristine skies of the African continent. The size of the album enhances the panoramic nature of the images; the passionate text that accompanies with explanations bestows Africa with a new and magical dimension. PAOLO NOVARESIO was born in Turin in 1954 and graduated in Contemporary History. A traveler, historian and writer, he has always worked in the field of exploration methods. By car, on foot and using local transport, he has covered numerous itineraries in the lesser known areas of Africa, from the Sahara Desert to the Congo Basin, as well as East and South Africa. Novaresio has sailed the Nile and Aruwimi, and crossed Lake Tanganyika. He has also explored vast regions of the Sahara and the Suguta Valley in Kenya, on foot. Following a long journey across the Dark Continent between 1981 and 1983, he stayed in Kenya for over a year, studying the culture and transhumance routes of the Samburu and Turkana nomads. He has recently concentrated his research in Kenya, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Novaresio also oversees the logistical preparation of trips and scientific expedition, and has contributed articles on African history and civilization to numerous newspapers and magazines. He published Men towards the unknown (1997), Sahara (2003) and Vanishing Africa (2004) with White Star.

High above Venice PHOTOGRAPHS BY MARCELLO BERTINETTI TEXT BY SIMONA STOPPA Packed with colorful photographs, this book takes readers on tour above one of Italy’s most popular city. Featuring hundreds of birds-eye photographs, this volume expands our perceptions of a city that already looms large in our mind’s eye. Taking readers on an aerial adventure above this ever-fascinating city and its surrounding, the images in High Above Venice depict a city that is as breathtakingly beautiful in reality as it is in our imagination. A wide variety of panoramas depict the sights that are distinctly Venetian: the emerald-green Lagoon with its picturesque islands of Burano, Torcello, and Murano, the brightly-colored homes of Burano, the network of canals branching out from the S shaped Grand Canal, the venerable palaces, centuriesold homes, and world-famous monuments which are all the more compelling when viewed from above. For anyone who has experienced the magic of Venice, this volume is a souvenir to be cherished. And for anyone who hopes to travel to this city, it will serve as inspiration. Acclaimed photographer MARCELLO BERTINETTI has been published in many major magazines and periodicals. In addition, his work has been published in numerous books and used in major advertising campaigns. In 1984, he founded White Star Publishers and he currently works as publisher of the company as well as continuing to work as a professional photographer. SIMONA STOPPA is a travel journalist who specializes in the environment, nature, marine studies and anthropology. She is a regular contributor to Italian television as a writer and director. She has created new television programs and videos for companies working in a broad range of activities, and has contributed content for them. She writes illustrated books and guidebooks for the Italian Touring Club and also for White Star Publishers. Stoppa also contributes to a number of travel magazines, such as Meridiani, Tuttoturismo and In Viaggio; she has also created videos for the Focus.it and GenteViaggi.it websites. In addition to teaching at Brescia’s Catholic University, she provides consulting services to corporations, using audiovisual instruments for empowerment, teambuilding and team-working.
