UPCOMING TITLE

Illustrations by Isabella Grott There are few subjects that fascinate children as much as animals, but they rarely get the opportunity to see their favorite creatures in person. This book gives readers the possibility to explore the animal world as though its inhabitants were right in front of them, exactly as they are in reality, with their real dimensions. It will thus be possible, for instance, to compare fangs and tails and discover that it’s not the lion that has the longest claws, but the sloth! With these immediate comparisons children will finally be able get to know animals the ways they are in real life! Isabella Grott, even as a child, had an inclination for drawing and painting, that made her enroll and graduate at the art institute in Trento (Italy). She moved to Florence where she currently lives and where she obtained a BA in graphics at the Accademia di Belle Arti. Participated to various workshops with international artists. She has been selected for an exhibition at the Pisa Book Festival. She collaborates with various publishers to create illustrated books, on paper and digital, and she teaches at the Nemo Academy in Florence.

40 pp | 290 x 385 mm hardcover ISBN 978-88-544-1328-3

Scientists have discovered more than a million different species of insects that every day, in every part of the world, live their very diverse lives. Many fly, others walk or bore through wood. Some are pleasing to the eye, like butterflies; others, like cockroaches, a bit less. For the most part, insects are small – sometimes so small that you need a magnifying lens to see them – and that is the way we are used to thinking of them. But in this book, the insects are presented in their actual sizes and in many cases readers will be genuinely surprised to find some veritable giants among them. The book includes other impressive insect characteristics – how much they weigh, how fast they are, how large and small insects differ from each other – all of which can be seen in the life-size illustrations that make the insects seem as though they have just landed on the page.

Humans do not need words to express their feelings. They can use a smile, offer a gift or simply be there. In this way, we humans are a lot like our animal friends. Even when spiders, fish, birds, in other word all types of animals are young and meet someone they like, sparks fly and love is born. Each animal has its own way to win the heart of a mate that in some cases will be its mate for life. This book is a collection of love stories starring romantically monogamous animals like wolves, eagles, lovebirds and penguins. There are also the stories of animals whose courting rituals are surprisingly creative, like the dance of the blue-footed booby or the synchronous flashing of fireflies. The result is truly an ode to love, tender and ironic, fun and colorful, thanks to the stunning images created by Isabella Grott.

Sometimes the incredible colors of an animal’s feathers or fur or skin is a defense mechanism and sometimes it is a tool for hunting or attracting a mate. But we find that the stunning colors of the animals that populate this book are first and foremost an extravaganza, an amazing feast for the eyes, beautifully portrayed in Isabella Grott’s rich, luxurious illustrations. Tree frogs and parakeets parade through the pages of this book. So do monkeys and butterflies, tropical fish and snakes and many other animal species. They are depicted in their natural habitats and together with their pictures, you will find information and curious facts about the influence that their colors have on their lives. They all have something in common – their infinite shades of bright red, blue, purple, yellow, orange and green confirm Mother Nature’s incredible imagination and joyfulness.

The Amazing Book of the Weirdest Animals

for Young Explorers

Illustrations by Rossella Trionfetti - Text by Cristina Banfi

Illustrations by Rossella Trionfetti - Text by Elena Fin

Nature never ceases to amaze us, especially in the animal kingdom! In this book, children will be able to follow the adventures of an intrepid explorer and his research, which has brought him face to face with some of the most bizarre animals in the world. Young readers will therefore discover that there is a wasp that looks like a panda and watch with surprise a basilisk snake running over water, or observe open-mouthed a butterfly with a large skull on its body and a fish that seem to be wearing lipstick. By following the explorer’s interesting tale, children will discover lots of curious things about the animal kingdom and read fascinating information written with scientific basis by a team of expert naturalists, while also admiring Rossella Tronfetti’s clear and detailed illustrations.

Carnivorous plants are, without the shadow of a doubt, the member of the plant world that children find most intriguing! In a style that is simple and interesting as well as fun, this book brings together all of their characteristics along with many suggestions for growing them. Charles Darwin was the first to study these plants and recognize their extremely peculiar nature. He and his comically awkward assistant will guide the reader, knowledgably mixing scientific and historical data with an endless array of curious facts about the most bizarre plant ever created by Mother Nature. Elena Fin Her passion for plants was in her genes, inherited from her father, a collector of Mammillaria cactus and member of AIAS (the Italian association of cactus lovers). She began collecting botanical rarities and orchids and when she discovered carnivorous plants in 2006, she fell in love with them. She has been a member of AIPC (the Italian association for carnivorous plants) since 2009 and in 2011 and she was put in charge of the Seed Bank.

Dinosaurs Explorers Infographics for Discovering the Prehistoric World

Illustrations by Giulia De Amicis - Text by Cristina Banfi

This book narrates the human body as the incredibly complex mechanism that it is. It uses an innovative language, infographics, to simplify the most complex data – information, numbers, curiosities and measures – and make them readily understandable and accessible. The book begins with a useful timeline of human evolution and continues diagrams that are both fun and understandable. They make subjects like the functions of the brain, muscles and the skeleton, the heart and the skin, the sensory organs, DNA and cell structure, easy to comprehend.

This wonderfully illustrated infographic was created for children (911 years old) who love the Prehistoric Age. The myriad of graphic visual representations will captivate them and teach them the names of the most prevalent species of dinosaurs as well as many curious facts about them. The comparison of many of these prehistoric behemoths to the animals of today makes it easier to understand exactly what they were like, what they ate, how they reproduced and what their habits were. Giulia De Amicis Since completing her masters in communication design in 2012, Giulia has been working as a visual designer and illustrator. Her work mainly focuses on the display of information for newspapers, magazines and the environmental sector, with a particular interest in marine ecology, geography and human rights.

Text by Cristina Banfi - Illustrations by Giulia De Amicis

Text by Rita Mabel Schiavo - Illustrations by Giulia De Amicis

Bees have always been friends to man, even way back in prehistoric times. But these special insects play a role of primary importance in the pollination of flowers and plants, which are at the base of the food chain of a great many animals. This book gives you the chance to get to know them from up close, and to explore their fascinatingly complex society, showing you how everything is perfectly organized, from the cleanliness of the hive to its defense, from gathering nectar to caring for the larvae. The book pays special attention to the dangers these hard-working insects currently face due to pollution.

Butterflies, the most admired and collected of insects; like bees, they are vital for plant pollination, which is why we have recently started protecting them as their numbers are significantly dwindling. Through this book you will get to know them better, explore their physiology, their defense and reproduction mechanisms and their most noteworthy features, and uncover the secrets behind the complicated patterns and amazing colors that characterize their appearance.

LIFT THE FLAP

Illustrations by Román GarcÍa Mora

Illustrations by Margherita Borin

The dinosaurs in this book are ready to jump out of the pages to tell you their most incredible secrets. Just lift the flaps to find out about their skin, bones, teeth and many more of the characteristics that have made these creatures of the past so legendary. We will find out about the often bizarre habits and behavior of these gigantic beasts, perhaps also discovering that some weren’t as big as we imagine. The illustrations by paleo-artist and biologist Roman Garcia Mora give a realistic cross-section of the dinosaurs, allowing the reader to see them as if they were right in front of them, in their own prehistoric world.

Up to 26 ft long, the triceratops lived more than 65 million years ago in the Cretaceous Period at the end of the dinosaur era. It was a robust, imposing dinosaur, with three fearsome horns on its head and a bone collar to protect its neck. It lived in herds and the males fought each other in contests to show their strength and conquer the females.

The triceratops ate plants like cycads. To cut and shred these very hard plants, its mouth was shaped like a beak. They had more than 800 teeth! But they did not use them all! Find out why they had those that were not used…

LIFT THE FLAP

The original format of this book allows the reader to explore the natural environment, discovering the various types of insect that can be found there. After observing the brightly colored illustrations of a place, lift the flap to see the worms hiding under a stone, or a spider in its web. The game of discovery will stimulate the young readers to pay more attention to the space around them, repeating the activities in the book and finding the insects in their natural environment. The images are both detailed and imaginative.

48 pp 205 x 253 mm hardcover

In this new series, Avery, a boy that young readers can easily identify with uses captivating adventures that are both fun and scientifically correct to narrate and explain history. Each time he embarks on an adventure, a new female friend joins him and gives the children a feminine point of view about the historical period being described. The narrator ties all of the titles together. With him, the young readers will help raid a Viking pirate ship, they will become camp aids to a Roman consul during a military expedition against the Carthaginians, they will attend one of the first editions of the Greek Olympics and they will act as an assistant to an embalmer from Karnak as he performs a mummification ritual. Luca Poli, proud to come from Bologna, has been working with the most important children’s publishers for many years. His work ranges from graphic design to illustration. He created and designed the Cities project, and has illustrated numerous books, with a preference for cartoons. He has also worked with graphic design studies on advertising and animation projects. Nothing is precluded in the aesthetic choices and language of his work. Each project is a new adventure... Jacopo Olivieri was born in Verona in 1966 though he spent part of his childhood in the Ivory Coast. After working as an illustrator, cartoonist and comic book author in the 1990s, as well as a toy designer, and theatre stage and costume designer, in the second decade of the 21st century he decided to work in children’s books, as author, translator, editor and scriptwriter. Today he is published by a number of Italian publishing houses.

Wonders of the World

Atlas of the Most Spectacular Monuments

7+

Female Explorers’ Atlas Text and Illustrations by Riccardo Francaviglia and Margherita Sgarlata

Text by Daniela Celli - Illustrations by Giulia Lombardo

From the dawn of civilization, mankind has been inspired to explore and discover the world around him. This atlas, with its beautiful illustrations and wealth of information and interesting facts, is a fascinating voyage following in the footsteps of 18 great and courageous women who travelled and explored the world over the past few centuries, most of whom forgotten about by history: from Amelia Earhart to Isabelle Bird, from Freya Stark to Laura Dekker. Tenacious, bold women who travelled the globe by bike or sailboat, passing through the Australian deserts or Asian tundra, overthrowing the social codes that often meant they had to go the extra mile to win their own freedom. The daring and audacity of these explorers will be a great example for many boys and girls – and, why not? Even their parents!

This book is an atlas, dedicated to present some of the most famous monuments in the world. The idea is to tell the story of each building in the most captivating way for children. To realize this purpose, the story is told by a famous character who is involved in the tale or in the legend or is related to the place where the monument is located. The style of the narrated text also changes according to the profession of the person telling the story that each time, can be poetic, fairy or more technical. Therefore each building, perfect illustrated by marvelous drawings by Giulia Lombardo, is presented differently according to the most interesting aspect of its history, considering what can be more attracting for children. For every monument, kids will find pratical informations, such as, the lenght or the height of the building, and some very attractives short curiosities, funny facts, or features that will catch the attention of the reader: do you know the shoe’s number of miss Liberty?

Therefore, a particular food will reflect the culture, the tradition and the relation to nature of the people who created it. This book travels the countries of the world to tell the secrets of the typical dishes. The drawings of the dishes on the maps take the reader on a journey through the flavors of the world, enriching their understanding of traditions and, why not, stirring the appetite.
