PROGRAMME INFORMATION This programme will equip students with a high level of technical, artistic and interpretative skills in dance and provides the opportunity for practical performing experience. Students will be given the opportunity of participating in external jazz and ballet examinations and attending external seminars and shows. Year two of this programme, concentrates on honing students skills and the application of technique in rehearsal and performance. A variety of performance tasks and challenges are set in order to develop versatility as performers. Graduates can apply to enrol in the Whitireia Bachelor of Applied Arts (Performing Arts) programme at year 3 or further professional training.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates will have the skills to go on to become professional actors, dancers, performing artists, perform in stage productions and can enter the film, television or tourism industries. Many graduates gain employment on cruise liners and in international resorts.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Domestic: NCEA Level 2 or equivalent plus evidence of skills/ ability/aptitude based on an interview and audition International: entry IELTS 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5)
AUDITION INFORMATION Appraisal of students for programme places is by audition. Students should prepare two, two-minute solo dances in contrasting styles, one to be jazz. The process includes a group workshop in ballet, tap and jazz in order to appraise technical proficiency, flexibility, performance ability and physique type. There is also a interview with an audition panel. Attention is given to flexibility, strength of technique, physical type, performance ability, musicality, ability to work as part of a group, ability to take direction, health (a current medical certificate will be required), fitness, demonstrated commitment to study and appreciation of programme outline and aims. Group auditions are held at the end of the year at the Whitireia Performance Centre, 25 Vivian Street, Wellington. Dates for auditions are posted to the Whitireia website when confirmed.
