PROGRAMME INFORMATION On this programme students develop an extensive knowledge of dance genres and artistic endeavour in Māori, Samoan, Cook Islands and New Zealand contemporary dance. Students are encouraged to develop strengths in technique, performance and choreography. Third year students create a body of work for public performance. Areas covered on this programme include: >> Samoan Dance >> Māori Performing Arts >> Cook Islands Dance >> New Zealand Contemporary Dance >> Audition Technique >> Professional Studies >> Creative Enterprise >> Contextual Studies Performance is a significant part of this programme. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Students who complete the Diploma in Stage and Screen Arts, Diploma in Performing Arts – Singing or Dance, can apply to enrol in Year 3 of this programme and continue to major in acting, commericial dance or musical theatre.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

LEVEL

Graduates develop careers as performers and choreographers within the dance and cultural tourism industries, or pursue further training for teaching.

QUALIFICATION

FEES Current fees are available on the Whitireia website.

Graduates gain the Bachelor of Applied Arts (Performing Arts).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students who pass two years of the degree may exit with a Diploma in Performing Arts.

Domestic: Whitireia degree academic entry requirements; evidence of suitability based on interview and audition

International: IELTS 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5)
