This programme teaches students the necessary skills and techniques to engage in the traditional art of Māori carving. Students will gain an understanding of aspects pertaining to whakairo such as the origins, tikanga, as well as the practical application.
PROGRAMME INFORMATION Students interested in this programme need some knowledge of whakairo and a strong desire to learn.
PROGRAMME TIMELINE This programme starts on 18 February and comprises weekday night classes and weekend wānanga as follows: Weekday night classes: Tuesday and Thursday, 5.30pm – 8.30pm Weekend wānanga: bimonthly
FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS Graduates can apply to enrol in further study in Māori studies, education, arts, craft and design as a whakairo practitioner and educator.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to become a practicing artist or craftsperson.
