Programme information This programme is made up of NZQA unit standards, some of which are covered under the National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction Support. These units are included in this programme also, as they are considered essential for mental health support workers. This programme covers the following papers: Theory Examines the legal and ethical responsibilities of the mental health support worker and develops knowledge of human development theories, within the context of mental health. Praxis 1 Enables the student to develop expertise in a range of skills used in the therapeutic relationship and to incorporate a framework of reflection into practice. Research Introduces students to the research process and to develop the skill of critical thinking. In addition, the paper will explore discrimination at a social level and models of community development that effect change. Praxis 2 Develops leadership skills in the student, by extending knowledge of group facilitation, case management and advocacy. The student will develop and articulate own practice theory through ongoing practice reflection.
