This programme is designed to enhance the delivery of perioperative services characterised by high quality, evidence based nursing care. It is suitable for nurses working in areas including; perioperative, general, orthopaedic, plastics, cardiac, medical/surgical, intensive care, PACU, high dependency and operating theatre. This programme integrates theory and practice to advance clinical judgement, critical thinking and problem solving, and promotes clinical leadership in a challenging and supportive learning environment.
PROGRAMME INFORMATION HSC8401 The Foundation of Acute Specialty Nursing (45 credits) This course advances existing knowledge of normal physiology and pathological processes in the context of acute care and specialty perioperative nursing practice. It focuses on the individual’s response and adaptation to chronic illness and the impact of a surgical intervention. HSC8402 Praxis in Perioperative Specialty Nursing (45 credits) This course provides the opportunity for the nurse to further develop knowledge and skill in caring for patients requiring acute monitoring and intervention in perioperative and complex medical settings. The course focuses on the perioperative period and is designed to advance understanding and practice of the nurse to deliver high quality care from a broad perspective with particular focus on quality improvement and clinical leadership.
