Postgraduate Certificate in Specialty Care – Urgent Community Care Practice This programme reflects current and developing research-based practice, in relation to health care delivery.

This programme is designed to provide Health Professionals with an integrated, supported theoretical and practical programme of study to ensure the development of specialty knowledge and skills. This two paper programme can be completed over two years. All papers are 17 weeks in duration and each paper is a combination of online and short block tutorials delivered at our Porirua campus. All papers are NZQA accredited at Level 8 and approved by Nursing Council of New Zealand. One Whitireia Level 8 postgraduate paper is equivalent to a 30 credit paper.

paper information Urgent Community Care Practice 1 HSC8614 (45 credits) In this paper the student will explore models and components of the evaluation of patient need in the urgent community care setting. The purpose is to expand and enhance the student’s range of initial presentation assessment and diagnostic skills. The student will develop understanding of contextualised models of urgent community health care and their evidence base. Students critically analyse their practice in their own clinical setting to develop the ability to evaluate patient need that is clinically and professionally appropriate to that setting. Whitireia postgraduate programmes have a flexible learning approach with a mix of block courses and online learning. As distance students, there is a full range of support available including distance library services and online learning support.

Urgent Community Care Practice 2 HSC8615 (45 credits) In this paper the student will explore models and components of clinical judgment and referral in the urgent community health care setting. The purpose is to expand and enhance the student’s range of initial presentation management and referral skills. The student will relate developments in urgent community health care and evidenced based practice to their communities. Students critically analyse their practice in their own clinical setting to develop the ability to manage and refer that is clinically and professionally appropriate to that setting.
