PROGRAMME INFORMATION >> Customer service: learn how to deliver excellent customer service to a range of customers. Learn problem solving skills, self-management skills and how to work effectively within a team >> Food preparation: learn about counter food and beverage service, including preparation and order taking for real customers >> Beverages: learn to prepare and serve a range of coffees, teas, hot chocolate along with cold beverages >> Coffee making: learn the skills to operate an espresso machine to make and serve a range of coffees in our on-site training café >> Food safety and health and safety legislation: gain knowledge and understanding on how to work in a café environment using national requirements >> Work preparation: gain knowledge of employment relations and experience in the hospitality industry
FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS Students can apply to enrol in the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) programme or any other certificate, diploma or degree programme offered at Whitireia or other tertiary institutions. Students must meet programme entry requirements.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Students can gain employment as an entry level barista, front of house or kitchenhand
QUALIFICATION Graduates gain the New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Level 2)
