The aim of this programme is to create the environment of Te Whare Toi; a sharing, thriving, mana enhancing, learning place, that is highly interactive of research, creativity and application of Nga Toi (Maori art) practices) underpinned by te reo, tikanga and matauranga toi. This qualication is intended for practitioners seeking to broaden operational, technical and theoretical knowledge, consistent with tikanga and reo, in either Whakairo (carving) or Nga mahi a te Whare Pora (weaving).
PROGRAMME OUTLINE The courses within the programme include: >> Te Tiriti o Waitangi
>> Art form history and traditions
>> Tikanga and Marae protocols
>> Nga Toi practice
>> Te Whare Toi
>> Academic writing skills
>> Te reo Maori for art and design
>> Research methods
>> Mahi-tahi (group art projects)
>> Health and safety
Assements include oral presentations, written assignments, tests (te reo-a-toi), reflective reviews, portfolio (including proposals, plans and workbooks) and practical projects.
FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS Graduates of this programme of study are able to enter directly into Year 2 of the Whitireia Bachelor of Applied Arts (Toi Poutama) with a credit transfer of 120 credits.

NCEA level 2 or equivalent skills and/ or knowledge AND evidence of ability based on a portfolio and interview. The portfolio is to include examples of visual material (art, design, craft).
