After completing this programme, students will be equipped to provide ICP care that meets the needs of clients and their whanau/family when seeking emergency or urgent medical care and transportation in the pre-hospital environment.
PROGRAMME INFORMATION The theory side of this programme is delivered face-to-face on campus as well as by online/flexible delivery. Students on this programme need to: >> Travel to the Whitireia Porirua campus for two block courses for each course >> Have access to a computer with internet connection >> Have support from current employer for release time to undertake study, attend on-campus block tutorials and have appropriate clinical supervision and professional mentoring >> Students have access (usually through current place of employment) for the duration of the programme to direct clinical supervision by ICP paramedic mentors familiar with the skills and knowledge outlined in the learning outcomes and content lists. The minimum number of hours of clinical supervision required per course is 168 which equates to approximately 4-5 four day shift cycles. HSC8607: Advanced Paramedic Practice 1 (45 credits) This course offers students the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge at ICP levels. The purpose is to expand the student’s ability to relate key concepts of advanced airway care and advanced management of a range of medical conditions to pre-hospital emergency care. Students critically analyse their practice in their own clinical setting, to develop the ability to provide patient care that is clinically and professionally appropriate to that setting.
