About Whitireia Whitireia is a Government owned and funded tertiary institute of technology, known for its high student success rate and culturally diverse student body. Established in 1986, on the shores of the Porirua harbour, Whitireia has grown to become a tertiary institution of choice for over 8,500 international and domestic students, who now study at one of seven contemporary campuses in Auckland, Wellington, Porirua and KÄ piti.
In 2014, over 100 programmes of study are being offered to students, covering certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate levels. All of our programmes have been developed in conjunction with industry, to offer excellent applied qualifications.

Whitireia and Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) have formed a strategic partnership to develop a network of tertiary learning in the greater Wellington region. This partnership, aimed at putting 'students first', will provide new and existing students with access to a diverse range of relevant programmes of study plus other opportunities including; each campus becoming a one-stop-shop by providing a range of information on each institution, access to high quality teaching across the Wellington region and greater student diversity. The Film School is the only industry-run school of its kind in New Zealand. It is unique with its visiting tutor programme, where tutors come into the school direct from the industry to teach all there is to know about the film and television industry. Located in Wellington City, the Film School offers students a one year, full-time, Certificate in Film and Television Production; the aim of this programme is to turn out producers, directors and technical crews of the future; graduates who are well prepared to make a career in film and/or television. If you are interested in a career in information technology, Computer Power Plus offers eight highly regarded information technology qualifications ranging from certificate to advanced diploma level. All are unique, exible and provided in a self-paced learning environment. Students take control of your learning, learning at your own pace with staff to assist students reach their study goals. Students commit to attend regular sessions and each time they attend Computer Power Plus, they pick up exactly where they left off. Instructors are dedicated, professional and experienced. Computer Power Plus also offers a work placement service to students. The New Zealand Radio Training School, located in our Media Training Centre in Wellington City, and in our Auckland campus, offers students complete handson training in radio. Owned by Whitireia New Zealand Limited, the New Zealand Radio Training School offers study towards the National Certificate in Radio (Foundation Skills) and Diploma in Radio Journalism. These programmes cover all the things students need to know for a career in commercial radio including; copywriting, programming and producing for radio, running promotions and live broadcasting. Students can choose from a range of electives including podcasting, documentary in radio, creative broadcasting or news package production and broadcasting. Students not only work in classrooms but also in purpose built studios designed to provide a complete radio experience. Professional tutors, all with comprehensive backgrounds in radio, offer students highly interactive learning opportunities, through practical hands on study. information & enrolment centre Our Information & Enrolment Centres (IEC) are the first point of contact for both prospective and current students. Located at our campuses in Porirua and Auckland, IEC provides programme information, assistance with our enrolment process, student ID cards, careers advice and fee payment facilities. Homestay assistance, insurance claim assistance and online visa renewal are available here for international students.
library Our Library provides access to a wide range of resources, including books, journals, audio-visual items, newspapers, many online databases, ebooks, study spaces and computers. Information skills’ training is available. A distance library service is provided to eligible students and assistance to students at every level of study. Assistance is given to students whose first language is not English by providing any academic help required. This service is also free and available oneto-one, working with individual lecturers by providing in-class study skills and language support or by peer tutoring.
Pacific community liaiSon The Pacific Community Liaison team at the Porirua Campus is responsible for engaging with our Pacific communities. Ethnic-specific staff liaise with the Cook Islands, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and other Pacific community groups.
StudentS with diSabilitieS The Academic Advisor works with students and staff to make reasonable accommodation for students with a disability.
counSelling Service A confidential, seven-day, 24-hour selfreferral, counselling service is provided off-campus by Vitae. Vitae, a professional company, provides Whitireia students with access to a team of independent counsellors and psychologists throughout New Zealand. Whitireia students are entitled to three free counselling sessions per year. Our Auckland campus offers an onsite counsellor who is available by appointment.

health Service A health nurse is available by appointment at our campus in Porirua. This service is free. Other health services available at our Porirua campus include a doctor, physiotherapist, massage therapist and hearing therapist. You will be charged a minimal cost for these services. Medical appointments can be arranged for students studying at our campuses in Wellington, KÄ piti and Auckland. homeStay accommodation for international StudentS New Zealand host families are carefully chosen for students to stay with. Families will provide a single bedroom, two meals a day plus clean bed linen including towels at least twice a week. Our homestay coordinators work with international students to arrange accommodation requirements to suit individual needs. A homestay is a great way to experience living in New Zealand.
international Student SuPPort Both Auckland and Porirua campuses have special international student groups who assist and organise events and activities. These groups are vital for communication between Whitireia and international students. They provide a student voice and assist with advice on helping international students settle into their new study environment. Whitireia has Student Support Co-ordinators available to provide pastoral care and support to international students while studying here. They ensure that international students make the most of their study experience.

Apply to enrol either in person, by post, online or apply to enrol through an agent. What do I need to provide?
A completed Application to Enrol form,a certified copy of your passport plus any additional entry requirement information (such as a health declaration, references, police vetting, criminal convictions declaration, record of learning, academic transcripts/records) if applicable. You also need to provide evidence of IELTS or equivalent English certificate. Why do we ask for your passport?
We need proof of your legal name, date of birth, and citizenship or residency. If your name has changed, you will also need to provide proof of the change, e.g. a marriage certificate.
You must also provide proof of eligibility to study in New Zealand (visa and residency status). How long does it take to confirm my enrolment?
Enrolment confirmation will be sent back either directly to the applicant or through an agent, if this is how you enrolled. When do I pay my fees?
After you have been offered a place on your programme and you have confirmed your acceptance of this place, you can pay your fees. How and when do I get my student ID card?
After your enrolment has been completed, our Information & Enrolment Centre will organise it for you. You will need a student ID card to photocopy, access the library, the computer networks and other student support services at Whitireia. Can I decide to withdraw from part or all of my programme of study?

If you are an international student studying at Whitireia full-time at Level 5 or higher, you are able to work for 20 hours per week, and full time during the holidays. How can I get my student visa renewed?
Current international students must apply to renew their student visa 1-2 months before the expiry date. Students should make contact with an International Student Adviser at our Information & Enrolment Centre, for assistance and advice on how to renew this visa online. Can I buy insurance through whitireia?
International students can apply through Whitireia for insurance. This insurance covers travel and medical.
If you change your mind before your programme of study starts, please contact us. You will need to complete a Withdrawal form.

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Accident Insurance The Accident Compensation Corporation

WHITIREIA ENGLISH ENTRY TEST INFORMATION
International Students wishing to enrol in Whitireia Academic Programmes may take the Whitireia English entry test to meet English requirements as an alternative to completing an IELTS, TOEFL or other external test. Whitireia is a Category 1 provider and is authorised by NZQA to conduct its own English Entry Test. You will be tested on your reading, writing, listening and speaking. The test is held monthly or more frequently if required. Location: Auckland, Porirua and Off-shore through Partner Institutions and our offices in India and China. Fees
You will be advised of the fees payable for your study. This will include the fee payable for your programme of study plus any other additional fees such as special programme delivery fees, homestay booking fee, insurance, airport pick-up fees plus others as applicable. You will need to ensure that all fees are paid before your programme starts. When your fees are received you or your agent will receive an email copy of your fees receipt. This receipt and the letter you receive from us, offering you a place on the programme, can be used to apply for a student visa.

New Zealand Privacy Act Personal information is protected by the New Zealand Privacy Act 1993. The Information collected and held by Whitireia will be used to register and enrol you, to assist you with your studies, to arrange for your stay in New Zealand, to monitor your welfare and progress, and to keep in touch with you in the future. Whitireia collects and stores information from this form to comply with Government statutes and regulations. It may also be used to select students for qualifications and for internal reporting. Information may be sought from other educational organisations for the purpose of verifying academic records. When required by law, we will release information to Government agencies as directed. Information may be disclosed to other agencies, such as the Ministry of Education, Audit New Zealand, New Zealand Qualifications Authority, Skill New Zealand, Industry Training Organisations, industry licensing and registration bodies, other tertiary institutions and providers of work experience, where applicable. Whitireia publishes lists of graduates. At certain times, Whitireia capture photographs of its students. Signing this form gives Whitireia the right to use these photographs in any of its marketing material, including, print and online. Any photographs taken will only be used in a tasteful, relevant and culturally sensitive manner. In signing this form, you authorise such disclosure. Whitireia observes the general conditions governing the release of information. You may see information about you and amend any errors. Code of Practice Whitireia has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international Refund information Summary • All applications for refunds must be on the International Transfer and Withdrawal form, obtainable from the faculty or international enrolments team. Supporting information must be submitted in writing. • If Immigration New Zealand refuses to grant you an initial visa for study in New Zealand, you will be entitled to a 95% refund of the tuition fees. • If you wish to withdraw your application and leave New Zealand, and notice is received by the international enrolments team, a minimum of two weeks before your programme starts, 75% of paid fees will be refunded. • If you wish to withdraw and/or do not attend the start of the programme, and you give notice to the international enrolments team up to two weeks after the programme starts, 50% of fees will be refunded. No refund will be given after classes have been operating for two weeks. • If you wish to transfer to another tertiary institution, 75% of fees will be paid directly to that institution. Notice must be received by the international enrolments team up to two weeks before your programme starts. An unconditional Offer of Place from the other institution will be required for the transfer of funds to be arranged. • If you are undertaking English and have extra weeks of prepaid study, you cannot be refunded but can be credited to another programme at Whitireia. • If you are undertaking English and reach the IELTS level required for degree study and wish to transfer to another institution, your remaining portion of fees (with 30% administration charge deducted) will be paid directly to that institution. An unconditional Offer of Place will be required for this transfer to be arranged. • If you are taking a semester-based programme and gain New Zealand permanent residency, you will not receive a refund of fees for the semester in which permanent residency is granted. However, in following semesters you will be treated as a New Zealand permanent resident and refunded any international fees paid for those semesters. • Exceptional circumstances of a compassionate nature, as approved by Whitireia, may necessitate you to withdraw from your programme. In these circumstances, the amount of fees refunded will be at the discretion of Whitireia. Supporting information must be supplied in writing. • If you receive a deferment, you are not subsequently entitled to apply for a refund. • Refunds are paid in New Zealand dollars or a nominated currency by cheque or bank draft sent to one of the following: • the applicant’s registered address (in country of origin), or • another tertiary institution • Under special circumstances, the refund can be paid directly into a nominated bank account. • All refunds incur a bank/administration charge.
