About Whitireia Whitireia Community Polytechnic (Whitireia) is a government owned and funded tertiary institute of technology, known for its high student success rates and culturally diverse student body. Established in 1986, on the shores of the Porirua harbour, Whitireia has grown to become a tertiary institution of choice for over 7,752 students (4,471 equivalent full-time students), who study at one of our contemporary campuses in Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti and Auckland. In 2016, over 120 programmes of study are being offered to students, covering certificate, diploma, degree, postgraduate and master’s levels. All programmes have been developed in conjunction with industry to offer excellent applied qualifications.

The New Zealand Film and Television School is one of the only industry-run schools of its kind in New Zealand. It is unique with its visiting tutor programme where tutors come into the school direct from industry to teach all there is to know about film. With the recent shift to digital, the Film School boasts a stateof-the art Arri-Alexa camera for training and filming projects, a high-end digital camera closest to 35mm film and in line with cinema and feature filmmaking.

= = The New Zealand Radio Training School is located at both our Wellington city and Auckland city campuses. It offers students complete hands-on training in radio. Owned by Whitireia New Zealand Limited, the New Zealand Radio Training School is one of the most respected radio training schools in New Zealand. Two programmes of study are offered; the National Certificate in Radio (Foundation Skills) and the Diploma in Radio Journalism (Broadcasting), covering all the things students need to know for a career in commercial radio including; copywriting, audio production, radio sales, podcasting, promotions, multimedia, (video, photography, blogging and social media) and live broadcasting. Students can choose from a range of electives including radio documentaries, creative broadcasting or industry internships (where available). Students not only study in a classroom but also in purpose built studios designed to provide a complete radio experience. Professional tutors all with comprehensive backgrounds in radio offer student’s highly interactive learning opportunities through practical hands-on study. The New Zealand Radio Training School keeps pace with industry, and in-turn offers training in tune with industry requirements.

Computer Power Plus is a specialist IT training provider with campuses in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. Industry recognised and practical qualifications are offered in a unique self-directed learning environment. Students study on campus following a personalised schedule agreed to at enrolment. More than 90% of eligible graduates have been successfully placed into employment within the IT industry. Computer Power Plus works closely with a large network of IT employers and as a result can offer an exceptional level of support to graduates in this area. All qualifications are New Zealand Qualifications Authority approved and are available at certificate and diploma levels. All diplomas offer training towards globally recognised IT vendor certifications.

Apply to enrol either in person, by post, online or apply to enrol through an agent.
After you have been offered a place on your programme and you have confirmed your acceptance of this place, you can pay your fees.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE? A completed Application to Enrol form,a certified copy of your passport plus any additional entry requirement information (such as a health declaration, references, police vetting, criminal convictions declaration, record of learning, academic transcripts/records) if applicable. You also need to provide evidence of IELTS or equivalent English certificate.
WHY DO WE ASK FOR YOUR PASSPORT? We need proof of your legal name, date of birth, and citizenship or residency. If your name has changed, you will also need to provide proof of the change, e.g. a marriage certificate. You must also provide proof of
HOW AND WHEN DO I GET MY STUDENT ID CARD? After your enrolment has been completed, our Information & Enrolment Centre will organise it for you. You will need a student ID card to photocopy, access the library, the computer networks and other student support services at Whitireia.
CAN I DECIDE TO WITHDRAW FROM PART OR ALL OF MY PROGRAMME OF STUDY?
CAN I WORK WHILE I STUDY? If you are an international student studying at Whitireia full-time at Level 5 or higher, you are able to work for 20 hours per week, and full time during the holidays.
HOW CAN I GET MY STUDENT VISA RENEWED? Current international students must apply to renew their student visa 1-2 months before the expiry date. Students should make contact with an International Student Adviser at our Information & Enrolment Centre, for assistance and advice on how to renew this visa online.
CAN I BUY INSURANCE THROUGH WHITIREIA? International students can apply through Whitireia for insurance. This insurance covers travel and medical.
If you change your mind before your programme of study starts, please contact us. You will need to complete a Withdrawal form.

ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES
Whitireia has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, published by the Minister of Education. Copies are available on request from Whitireia or from www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed at www.moh.govt.nz
IMMIGRATION Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed at www.immigration.govt.nz
International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand.
ACCIDENT INSURANCE The Accident Compensation Corporation
provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed at www.acc.co.nz
MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE It is compulsory for international students to have appropriate current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. This can be purchased through our International Student Advisers at our Information & Enrolment Centre or as part of the enrolment/re-enrolment process.

Diana Fergusson INFORMATION & ENROLMENT Our Information & Enrolment team are the first point of contact for both prospective and current students. Located at our campuses in Porirua and Auckland, IEC provides programme information, assistance with our enrolment process, student ID cards, careers advice and fee payment facilities. Homestay assistance, insurance claim assistance and online visa renewal are available here for international students. LIBRARY Our Library provides access to a wide range of resources, including books, journals, audio-visual items, newspapers, many online databases, ebooks, study spaces and computers. Information skills’ training is available. A distance library service is provided to eligible students and assistance to students at every level of study. Assistance is given to students whose first language is not English by providing any academic help required. This service is also free and available one-to-one, working with individual lecturers by providing in-class study skills and language support or by peer tutoring. PACIFIC COMMUNITY LIAISON The Pacific Community Liaison team at the Porirua Campus is responsible for engaging with our Pacific communities. Ethnic-specific staff liaise with the Cook Islands, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and other Pacific community groups. STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES The Academic Advisor works with students and staff to make reasonable accommodation for students with a disability.
COUNSELLING SERVICE A confidential, seven-day, 24-hour self-referral, counselling service is provided off-campus by Vitae. Vitae, a professional company, provides Whitireia students with access to a team of independent counsellors and psychologists throughout New Zealand. Whitireia students are entitled to three free counselling sessions per year. Our Auckland campus offers an onsite counsellor who is available by appointment. WORK PLACEMENT OFFICER Our Auckland campus offers an onsite work placement officer available by appointment. Career Link will help you with the skills needed to find work within the area of your studies and to set you on the path to career success. FINANCIAL SUPPORT Confidential budgeting advice is available. This service also provides information on grants, scholarships and emergency funding. HEALTH SERVICE A health nurse is available by appointment at our campus in Porirua. This service is free. Other health services available at our Porirua campus include a doctor, physiotherapist, massage therapist and hearing therapist. You will be charged a minimal cost for these services. Medical appointments can be arranged for students studying at our campuses in Wellington, KÄ piti and Auckland. Auckland Campus includes a sick bay, first aid treatment and links to medical centres.
HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS New Zealand host families are carefully chosen for students to stay with. Families will provide a single bedroom, two meals a day plus clean bed linen including towels at least twice a week. Our homestay coordinators work with international students to arrange accommodation requirements to suit individual needs. A homestay is a great way to experience living in New Zealand.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT Both Auckland and Porirua campuses have special international student groups who assist and organise events and activities. These groups are vital for communication between Whitireia and international students. They provide a student voice and assist with advice on helping international students settle into their new study environment. Whitireia has Student Support Co-ordinators available to provide pastoral care and support to international students while studying here. They ensure that international students make the most of their study experience. VISA AND IMMIGRATION SERVICES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Our Porirua and Auckland campuses have staff available to assist with visa and immigration requirements for new and existing students. WORSHIPPING ON CAMPUS There is a dedicated space available at our Auckland campus for worship and/or prayer. Arrangements can also be made for worship at our Porirua campus.

English Language Our English programmes are designed for students who speak English as a second language. These courses are designed to provide the skills required to successfully meet the entry criteria for further academic studies. Students who study English at Whitireia come from a variety of countries, including Japan, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Tonga, Korea, China, Thailand and Vietnam, to name a few.
LEVELS Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, UpperIntermediate, Advanced, Academic and Advance Academic.
PROGRAMME INFORMATION Learn English to understand, speak and write English for study, work and everyday situations. Study for a full year or enrol block by block. Our ESOL programme is suitable for all English abilities. Students with basic English may study as beginners, or some students may be eligible to learn English in our Advanced Academic English classes and achieve 6.5 or 7.0 IELTS to enter higher level Academic programmes at Universities.

ENTRY CRITERIA Open entry
Whitireia English entry test information International Students wishing to enrol in Whitireia Academic Programmes may take the Whitireia English entry test to meet English requirements as an alternative to completing an IELTS, TOEFL or another external test. Whitireia is a Category 1 provider and is authorised by NZQA to conduct its own English Entry Test. You will be tested on your reading, writing, listening and speaking. The test is held monthly or more frequently if required. Location: Auckland, Porirua and offshore through partner institutions and our office in China. Fee: $NZ50 entry test (free for existing students)

If you are undertaking English and have extra weeks of prepaid study, you cannot be refunded but can be credited to another programme at Whitireia. If you are undertaking English and reach the IELTS level required for degree study and wish to transfer to another institution, your remaining portion of fees (with 30% administration charge deducted) will be paid directly to that institution. An If you are taking a semester-based programme and gain New Zealand permanent residency, you will not receive a refund of fees for the semester in which permanent residency is granted. However, in following semesters you will be treated as a New Zealand permanent resident and refunded any international fees paid for those semesters. Exceptional circumstances of a compassionate nature, as approved by Whitireia, may necessitate you to withdraw from your programme.
