PROGRAMME INFORMATION The aim of this programme is to prepare students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to enter an apprenticeship in the building industry. This programme covers practical trade skills in the following: >> Use and maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment including hand tools, portable power tools, machine tools >> Erecting profiles, setting out and levelling houses exercises >> Sub-floor framing >> Erecting frames and trusses >> Erecting ceilings >> Construction of framework as required >> Site safe certificate >> First aid >> Health and safety
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates of the Certificate in Carpentry seek apprenticeships as a: >> Builder/Carpenter
QUALIFICATION
Work as an apprentice in the construction industry
Graduates gain the Certificate in Carpentry and credits/papers towards a National Certificate in Carpentry (theory and practical)

Domestic: 10 credits NCEA Level 1 literacy and 10 credits NCEA Level 1 numeracy or equivalent
