DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE WRITING (ON-CAMPUS) If you’re serious about writing, this ‘hands-on’ programme will hone your skills as a writer, and give you the practical knowledge to use them widely. This oncampus diploma is available part-time or full-time. Part-time modules are: short fiction, scriptwriting, poetry and non-fiction. LEVEL 5
DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE WRITING (ONLINE) If you have a passion for writing, want to extend the range of your work, or develop the versatility of the freelance writer, this programme is for you. This online diploma is available part-time or full-time. LEVEL 5
DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE WRITING (ADVANCED) Undertake specialised study and practice in writing a novel, short fiction, poetry or non-fiction work. Produce a first draft manuscript with mentoring support. LEVEL 6
GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE WRITING Experienced writers are supported towards developing a book or manuscript through mentoring from well-known professionals on this programme. The work may be poetry, fiction or non-fiction. LEVEL 7
BACHELOR OF APPLIED ARTS (CREATIVE WRITING) Don’t just dream about writing, do it! Follow your passion for writing. Refine your skills in fiction, non-fiction, poetry or scriptwriting over the three years of this degree programme. LEVEL 7

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THE GRADUATES Graduates from the programme appear in almost every aspect of New Zealand writing life. They include writers as diverse as Tusiata Avia, highly-acclaimed Samoan/New Zealand performance poet and children's writer, prolific award-winning children's writer Vince Ford, Karen McMillan (Unbreakable Spirit, Love in Aotearoa), Maggie Rainey-Smith (About Turns), Nathan Hoturoa Gray (First Pass Under Heaven), Leilani Unasa (His Mother's Son - stage play), Dean Hewison (Maintain - digital feature film), Alison Wong (winner of the New Zealand Post Fiction Award 2010), Lynn Jenner (winner of the 2011 Best First Book Award for Poetry in the New Zealand Post Book Awards) and Jessica Bromley (Te Pono - stage play).
Our graduates have published over 120 books and a great many shorter works, in both literary and general magazines, on radio, on stage and on the screen. They are active as performers, events organisers, participants in the Writers in Schools programme, and as organisers of writers' groups. A number of graduates have gone onto MA programmes in creative writing. THE TUTORS Adrienne Jansen – short fiction, editing and non-fiction Adrienne is an experienced writer and editor of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Her latest novel, A Line of Sight, was published in 2015. Anna Taylor – short fiction and non-fiction, online Anna is an award winning short story writer who is widely published in New Zealand, and in American school journals. In 2012, she was awarded the Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellowship. Donna Banicevich Gera – scriptwriting Donna's work has been produced for radio, page, stage and screen in New Zealand and internationally. In 2013, she was the adjudicator for the PANZ playwriting competition. Mary-Jane Duffy – poetry Mary-Jane is a freelance writer and poet. She currently writes an arts column for Wellington magazine Fishhead.
Mandy Hager – novel writing Mandy is a multi-award winning writer of fiction for young adults. She has published several books, poems, resources, scripts and highly acclaimed novels. In 2014, she was the Katherine Mansfield Fellow in Menton, France. Vanessa (Ness) Simons – scriptwriting, online Ness has a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Whitireia in Scriptwriting. She has written and directed a range of creative projects including music videos, web-series, and short film. Johanna Knox – writing for children, online Johanna's books include A Forger's Treasury and The Fly Papers - a mystery-adventure series for 7-12 years olds. Book one in the series, The Flytrap Snaps, was short-listed for the 2012 NZ Post Children's Book Awards as well as the LIANZA Esther Glen Award, and was a Storylines Notable Book.
