CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR NURSES AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS Professional development opportunities covering a range of clinical and professional topics

PROGRAMME INFORMATION Whitireia offer a range of surgical, medical and aged care short courses for professional development. These short courses can be used as evidence of professional development hours under the Health Practitioner Competency Assurance Act. Whitireia is a Nursing Council of New Zealand and New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) accredited provider. Short courses are available at various times throughout the year as noted below or due to demand. The following short courses are being offered in 2013:

MEDICAL AND AGED CARE (suitable for all Registered Nurses – $225 per course) * >> Nursing Care of the Aged Cardiac Client (HSC7710) – 20 June >> Respiratory Compromised (HSC7706) – 3 September >> Fluid Balance and Nutrition (HSC7712) – 7 November

SURGICAL (suitable for Registered Nurses and Anaesthetic Technicians – $225 per course)* >> Sepsis (HSC7714) – 12 July >> Surgery and Respiratory Compromise (HSC7705) – 14 August >> Shock (HSC7715) – 15 October >> Pain (HSC7701) – 29 November

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION LOCATION Courses are delivered in a variety of settings including Whitireia, Porirua campus or the workplace by arrangement. One day workshops: 9am – 4pm.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Registered health professionals will have increased knowledge and understanding to enhance their ability to provide evidencebased care. The short courses provide professional development hours to meet continuing education requirements of health professionals.

QUALIFICATION A Certificate in Health Professional Practice Development will be awarded after a total of 40 credits are accumulated.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Domestic: registration as a health professional with a current New Zealand practicing certificate with the appropriate registration body. International: IELTS 7.0 or equivalent and evidence of entry requirements comparable to New Zealand domestic requirements.
