BOOK REVIEW

Author: Alba Dalmau | Cinta Vidal From the reader report by: Miho Ihara

This is a picture book with a fantastic story and illustrations. The world has been shaken up. Now things have settled, we are no longer sure what is up and what is down, from floors and stairs to apartment rooms and the rocky mountains outside. The illustrations are reminiscent of Escher’s illusions. We join the book’s narrator in trying to spot Caliua among the cats that appear across each page. We can also enjoy scouring the illustrations to find people mentioned in the text. The book resembles “Where’s Wally” by Martin Handford or ‘I SPY” by Walter Wick in the way the reader tries to find a target while turning the book this way and that.

Illusion books like “Imagine a Night” by Rob Gonslazes have already been translated into Japanese to generally good reviews on Amazon Japan. This book has a similar atmosphere and illustrations, so it will find a receptive Japanese audience.
