Electric lockout ELD features A motor actuator within the rightside stanchion of the fork locks or unlocks the compression. It needs 0,5 sec to switch to ON or OFF position. The battery and the controller (brain) are within the steerer. The battery type is Lithium CR 123A. The controller (brain) has a vibration sensor which automatically switches off the electric flow, if during 5 minutes no shock has been given to the fork. The lifetime of the battery is approx. 50.000 switches.

Alongside the Marathon event, where I’ve twice been Austrian Champion, is Cross-Country, my all time favorite discipline. Being an Olympic sport, CrossCountry courses are circuits through forests and meadows. The circuits are usually between three and eight kilometers long and there can be up to 200 riders on the start-line. The riders must give it their all physically and mentally for two hours. Physiologically for me, that means an average heart-rate of 160165bpm with a maximum of 180bpm and a power output range of 300 – 400 watts. My all time favorite circuit is Offenburg and my local circuit is in Haiming/Ötztal. In Cross-Country, the choice of equipment can make the difference between success and failure. I ride the stiff Suntour Axon fork and I’m able to open and close the fork in a split second via the bars. The Axon can be adjusted to suit the different courses and the different rider styles, for example in Madrid where the course is very fast, the fork was set up hard and then in Offenburg the fork was set up softer to deal with the roots. Simply put…in order to be in the mix at the front of the field not only do you need to be right mentally and physically, you also need the right equipment.

4X AXON RLD QLOC15

Four-cross (4X), the youngest mountain bike discipline pits 4 riders, elbow to elbow, over a short course. The course is filled with jumps, turns, rocks and logs. The top two riders from each qualifying heat go through to the next round. This madness goes on until there are only 4 riders left. These four then fight it out for the podium places. The races are very intense and action packed. The slightest mistake can destroy your hopes of glory. 4 X riders not only have to be very powerful, with explosive acceleration, but they must also be very versatile riders, with all the riding skills to tackle any track. Each track is different and you have to be able to adapt to new lines each lap. Personally I love the big tracks; Rotura in New Zealand was a beauty…like a rollercoaster! My fork of choice for 4X is the AXON Q-LOC. A smooth, lightweight fork which combines great stiffness and uncompromised handling – it’s everything I need in a fork to win!

TEAM MANAGER GIANT SWISS AXON WORLD CHAMPION

One of my favourite tracks is the World Cup track in Houffalize. Each lap of the circuit is 7.1km long and 340m in elevation; the circuit has everything needed to test the rider: steep technical climbs, fast downhill, technical downhill and of course a lot of keen spectators around the course. It’s been my honour to win this event in the Masters category twice, in 2007 & 2008…a truly wonderful experience. I ride the SR Suntour Axon fork with 100mm on my Giant Team bike. For the three most important victories to date, the Masters World Championship and the Swiss Masters title, I rode the Axon fork with an air pressure of 5 bar for my weight of 63kg. In every race the Axon has proved to be totally reliable and has been an immense help in transferring power into drive. On long climbs I am at no disadvantage as I can easily lock out the travel. Anyone paying attention would have seen my Axon fork in the Swiss Championships was decorated on each leg with the Swiss flag…for me an indication to the other riders that I was up to the challenge. In the Masters World Championship the Axon fork worked in perfect harmony with my Giant fully and was a major factor in my success over the rough course in Praloup, France, where I took third place.

What could be better between races than going out with your mates and having fun on your Enduro bike? Enduro - all mountain riding, is about having fun, being free from the stresses, strains and commitments of daily life. Whether it’s high in the Alps or on single-trail in your local woods, there’s nothing like it. My home track is in Berner Gurten. Climbing with the bike and descending with the bike you need the perfect fork…travel to call on for the descents and to lock for the climbs, that’s why I ride the Durolux with remote Travel Adjust and 20mm through-axle on my Enduro bike.

What is a pumptrack? "The Greenhouse Pumptrack" DURO / AXON 4X

Basically a pumptrack is a small, circular or oval track made up of smallish bumps and curves. By the so-called ‘pumping’ action riders go around the track without pedaling. It’s possible, on good tracks, for experienced riders to go around forever! The special thing about my backyard track is it’s in a greenhouse! The greenhouse was used my grandfather and father for over 70 years for flowers… I’ve now planted it with bumps and curves. I ride the Axon fork with 100mm travel on my 4Cross bike. The fork is light, stiff and very stable. Dirt jump bikes are ideally suited to pumptracks and therefore I recommend using the SR Suntour Duro with wither 80 or 100mm travel. I mostly ride dirt with my bike. What does dirt mean? It involves building several jumps from soil or earth one after another until you end up with a line of jumps. Ideally the jumps should be the same size so that you flow over the jumps without braking or pedaling too much. The more jumps you have, the more fun you haveâ&#x20AC;Śsimple! Of course you need space for all these jumps. Sometimes the local authorities will let you use open spaces for building dirt jumps. One of my favourite spots is in Duisburg, Germany. My mates and I have built some great jumps with the help of SRSuntour. My fork of choice for the jumps is the SRSuntour Duro fork. It combines stability, lightweight and clean performance. What more could you ask from a dirt jump fork? Wellâ&#x20AC;Ś it should be an eye-catcher and in its flashy green look, it certainly catches the eye.
