By D. Kevin McNeir WI Editor @dkevinmcneir In his first public address since February – and in his own words one of the last times the world will hear from him – the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, 87, of the Nation of Islam [NOI], delivered a July 4th message which raised a clarion call to international leaders, including President Donald Trump and to those who guide global communities of faith. Darryll J. Pines may be one of the few people who understands the University of Maryland. Besides his 25 years teaching and dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, his two children are also “true Terps” who graduated from the university. But Pines began his new role last week as the university’s first Black president and 34th overall. He has two main priorities for the university — excellence “in everything that we do” and create a more inclusive and multicultural community. “These two priorities go hand in hand,” he said. “That’s what I intend to do at this university.” 5 University of Maryland President Darryll J. By Stacy M. Brown WI Senior Writer @StacyBrownMedia A range of disturbing incidents has happened since George Floyd’s death and subsequent protests against racism and police brutality. USA Today, the Associated Press, Fox News and other outlets have reported on situations around the country that depict most of the victims of violent crime in the

past 90 days as Black. In Illinois, a man was charged with a hate crime allegedly for riding his motorcycle into a protest and hitting two people. According to USA Today, authorities said a KKK leader tried to run his car through a group of peaceful protesters in Virginia. Video shows a white man accelerating his vehicle toward a Black woman in a Wisconsin parking lot.
