The Washington Informer Newspaper Co., Inc. (WI) is a local, woman-owned, weekly newspaper and multimedia news organization covering the African American community. Established in 1964 by the late Dr. Calvin Rolark, Sr., WI is currently lead by his daughter, Denise Rolark Barnes, publisher, and CEO. WI reaches over 50,000 weekly readers of its award-winning print edition, with more than 10,000 digital subscribers, and nearly 25,000 social media followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, along with 5,000 viewers of WIN-TV, a weekly digital news program. WI, and its non-profit Washington Informer Charities, produces and sponsors programs serving the community in the metropolitan D.C. area including the annual DC City-wide Spelling Bee, and the annual Prince George’s Spelling Bee.
