Maryland Governor Creates Coronavirus Response Team

Larry Hogan announced Monday the state will create a seven-member coronavirus response team comprised of medical and emergency experts to advise the state on how to respond and handle a virus which now has nine confirmed cases statewide. During a press conference in Annapolis, Hogan also issued a mandatory order for state employees to not travel out-of-state and for state agencies to institute a period of telework for some employees “to limit the spread of the virus.” In addition, he received information after a 90-minute meeting with Vice President Mike Pence

As the coronavirus continues to spread like wildfire across America, precipitously upon the heels of even higher cases of deaths and infections worldwide, the Trump-appointed United States Surgeon General has emerged as one of the dominant voices for the White House while U.S. officials in cities large and small struggle to contain the surging health crisis. In a Sunday morning interview on CNN, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, an African American from southern Maryland, said the number of coronavirus test kits available to the public will increase from 75,000 to 4 million by week’s end, seeking to downplay allegations that healthcare officials remained stymied due to an inadequate number of kits. “But the most important number to the American people is one,” he said. “People want to know that if they’re fearful about their status and

And then there were two. That’s right – the number of candidates vying for the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee has finally been reduced from several dozen to just two: former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders. And both men have been actively courting the Black (and Brown) vote, realizing that victory could rest in the hands of the nation’s voters of color. Said more succinctly, they, along with President Donald Trump although he may not often admit it, recognize that while petulant progressives and hardnosed Democrats continue to waste millions of dollars chasing white swing voters, an explosive population growth of people of color in the U.S. over the past 50 years has laid the foundation for a New American Majority. During the 2016 General Election, this Majority, then 51 percent of all eligible voters, consisted of progressive people of color (23 percent) and progressive whites (28 percent). But that majority has continued to increase and will in short order have unprecedented impact on both U.S. politics and policy. “Many articles and analyses look to a distant date when the
