2019 – A YEAR IN REVIEW Publisher – Jonas Wiklund Production – WIBAX Graphics and layout – Mawix Art Print – Ågrenshuset Translation – Language Consulting
We ended the last decade on a really high note at Wibax, with strong growth and satisfactory results, well in line with our goals. We have continued to grow and can look back at another year with a turnover once again reaching, and even exceeding, last year's record of one billion SEK. I am proud to say that we have also grown our staff, so much so that we are expanding our office facilities. We focus on creating an even more enjoyable work environment, by creating large staff spaces, creative office environments and a gym area. We will always prioritise investments in our staff. Our business divisions continue to develop, most of all in the field of green products and all our related know-how. We are of course also experiencing growth in our chemicals devision, both when it comes to trading and own production. We have added another terminal, in Gävle, to our capacity, and we have even more vehicles in our fleet, to allow us to provide our customers with an even better service. 2019 was also largely shaped by new goals and primarily by the development of a growth plan to reach these goals. This goaloriented process and major effort means that we now have a strategy for how and in which fields we would like to develop in the years leading up to 2025. It is a well-established plan, carefully crafted by the organisation, in a structured manner. We now continue the work with communicating and detailing it in our targeting process, so that we can all help develop the group in the right direction. I look forward with excitement and, I must confess, some degree of impatience, to seeing our future development. Jonas Wiklund CEO WIBAX Group AB
OUR NEW FACILITIES
– an investment in both work environment and quality The Wibax headquarters in Piteå are being expanded by no less than 1,300 square metres, with Hellströms Bygg responsible for construction. When everything is finished, we will have facilities to meet the needs of both today and tomorrow. Wibax has grown extensively over the last few years and last year an important milestone was reached – turnover exceeded one billion SEK. Concurrently, staff numbers have increased and today the facilities are very crowded. We are continuously recruiting new staff, which means that large parts of the new facilities will see use very quickly. At the same time, we view this as adding a margin for continued growth that will last us another five to ten years. “Our 75 office spaces will be expanded with an additional 36 offices and
a creative open plan office. These facilities will be housed in an additional two storeys, added to the current production facility, adjacent to the current offices. Our staff will enjoy a better work environment and the new spaces will also give us the opportunity to try new methods of work. STAFF ENJOYMENT AND QUALITY A new lunch room with double the ceiling height, a large terrace facing south and a staff gym are all likely to lead to better staff enjoyment. Addi-
tionally, the expansion includes a new lab and control room. It is part of our investment in our own products. We are already experiencing strong growth in this area and we see this as an investment in continued expansion and even better quality in our products. FINISHED BY SUMMER 2020 Hellströms Bygg are responsible for construction and the expanded facilities are expected to be ready for use by the summer of 2020. Costs are estimated to approximately 40 million SEK.

Facing climate crisis, companies see bio oil as a complementary fuel, providing both green and economic incentives. The market has shifted in recent years, with more companies prioritising sustainability.
BIO OIL IS A FUEL WITH A VERY HIGH ENERGY DENSITY in
WIBAX
helps customers reduce their CO2 emissions
use since the 1970’s. It is produced using waste and byproducts from the food industry, oleochemical industry and biodiesel production amongst other sources. In order to make things easier for our customers, Wibax is happy to provide total solutions for conversion. This greatly simplifies the process and has been a repeated success. Together with the client, we analyse what type of bio oil is most suitable and we assist in installation, start-up, optimisation and evaluation. Having us on board from start to finish simplifies things for our clients as they avoid the hassle of dealing with numerous suppliers. Also, at Wibax we know our own products best and we can adapt the equipment required. Hesitant customers can try both the bio oil and the equipment before they buy. We recommend this, to give clients a chance to acquaint themselves with the system before making a final decision. Our total solutions concept also includes a complete and secure logistics and supply chain providing our customers with Wibax Bio Oil. “Looking at bio oil sales in 2018, we have helped our customers reduce their 1 fossil CO2 emissions by a total of approximately 238 000 metric tons ”, explains David Wiklund, Managing Director, Wibax Biofuels. 1) The reduction in emissions is calculated based on the fossil carbon content of the fuel, assuming a difference between bio oil and a 100% fossil fuel.
FOSSIL FREE FUEL WITH WIBAX BIO OIL
Wibax has installed a bio oil tank at Skanska Industrial Solution in Gällivare, allowing them to produce fossil-free, heated asphalt.
Wibax has installed a tank at the Skanska plant in Östersund, as well as equipment to convert the facility from fossil fuel to bio oil.
CONVERSION
SKANSKA
If we are to reach our goal of becoming a completely fossil free country, we need to use renewable fuels to generate energy, to greater extent. Here, bio oil plays an important part. Skanska has set a target to be climate neutral by 2045, throughout the entire value chain. In order to reach this goal, they needed a fossil free alternative for heating of their asphalt plant. Skanska chose to invest in bio oil. This investment has led to a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 80-90% per ton of asphalt produced. "In summary, this has yielded excellent results, both environmentally and financially", explains Fredrik Valjemot, Supervisor, Skanska. Wibax is Sweden's largest supplier of bio oil. Over the past year, we have adapted eight of Skanska's facilities for heating with Wibax bio oil.
CONVERSION BIO OIL FACTS Wibax is an experienced partner in biofuel conversion consultation and advice. Wibax offers total solutions, from storage to combustion. We analyse your facility to find the most suitable type of bio oil, we convert and adapt combustion facilities from fossil fuel to biofuel. We help with the startup, optimisation and evaluation and provide equipment for combustion trial runs. We can also help with the application for grants to assist the move from fossil fuel to bio oil. Additionally, Wibax’ total solution concept encompasses all logistics needs, ensuring a secure supply chain providing our customers with Wibax bio oil.
NORRTÄLJE ENERGI
Wibax has converted the Norrtälje Energi facility in Rimbo. The heating plant in Rimbo has been using biofuel for some time, but Wibax has now remodelled and adapted the facility for peak demand situations, to allow for fossil free combustion using Wibax bio oil. "We are happy to have Wibax as suppliers, they have guided us from start to finish, in everything from assistance with grant applications, to analysis of what product we should use to adapt our facility, and then they helped with the startup this year", explains Heating Manager Tommy Kindblom at Norrtälje Energi.

WIBAX LOGISTICS HAS INVESTED approximately
20 million SEK to purchase a total of five new tanker trucks in 2019. This means that we now have a vehicle fleet of about 50 tanker trucks, delivering liquid chemicals and bio oils to customers, primarily in the paper and pulp industry but also other industries.
WIBAX LOGISTICS
investing in new tanker trucks
The Wibax Group works with the trade and production of chemicals and oils and Wibax Logistics is responsible for the group’s logistics, with eight terminals in Sweden and one in Finland. Part of our sustainability work involves providing logistics services for other companies, thus avoiding empty return transportation. We always aim to optimise the level of loading of our vehicle fleet through continuous analysis of logistics flows and planning of return transportation, as well as by maximising the shipment weight. A higher shipment weight results in lower CO2 emissions per transported ton, as it leads to fewer journeys and greater utility. By investing in tankers that can carry a total weight of 74 tons rather than 64, we can reduce the number of journeys . Four of the tankers, part of our most recent investment, can carry a total weight of 74 tons for chemical and bio oil deliveries. The fifth tanker is a gas tanker used for sulphur dioxide delivery. "Our ambition is to have a modern vehicle fleet, well suited to the tasks at hand, providing a high level of efficiency, security of delivery and minimising environmental impact", explains Magnus Sundström, Managing Director Wibax Logistics AB. 6
NEW LOGISTICS MANAGER AT WIBAX Örjan Svensson, 52, from Gällivare, is Wibax’ new Logistics Manager. He will have general responsibility for managing and developing the operations of the company’s logistics and cistern sites. In broad terms, his role will be to coordinate improvement initiatives, whilst helping the organisation and its staff develop.
My role, managing and developing operations in terminals, engineering and the field of logistics, is a very exciting challenge. One of the things that motivates me is working with development and constant improvement. This, together with the experience I will bring from the various fields in which I have worked, will hopefully help me contribute to the continued development of WIBAX Logistics. I look forward to getting to know staff and colleagues and becoming part of the company”, explains Örjan Svensson, COO Logistics.
WIBAX LOGISTICS IS A MEMBMER OF
FAIR TRANSPORT It used to be a non-binding statement, but from 2019 onwards, it is a commitment that requires membership. Fair Transport is a way for logistics companies to show that they are at the forefront in sustainability efforts, in the fields of climate and the environment, road safety and social responsibility. Across these areas, sustainability data is collected, summarised and made publicly available. Fair Transport is a tool for sustainable business, and an efficient channel for purchasers of transport services to find information about transporters and their sustainability work.

A NEW WIBAX TRAINEE PROGRAMME
GEARED TOWARDS IMMIGRANTS
Wibax has run Wibax Academy - Good Chemistry for More of Us, a trainee programme initially geared towards immigrants. The project has been carried out in collaboration with Piteå Council and Arbetsförmedlingen, the Swedish Public Employment Service, and allowed twelve candidates to experience working at Wibax, under mentorship, in everything from finance and sales to logistics and transportation, in the spring of 2020.
“We would like to contribute to the community. We have a fairly large number of unemployed immigrants in Sweden, and we know that those who cannot find work will move. This project is an initiative to encourage workers to stay in our city, whilst also taking social responsibility.” explains Annica Pettersson, Wibax HR Manager. As Wibax continues to grow, there is a need for skilled staff across several fields, and the company sees great benefits in reaching out to this particular group. “We are happy if we can offer them work experience and language development, which will either lead to employment with us, or give them experience that makes them attractive to other employers in Piteå.”
8
The project will conclude in May 2020, at which time Wibax would like to offer a few of the trainees the opportunity to continue in a temporary position over summer. “We hope that all participants, both the candidates and us the managers, mentors and other staff, will benefit from participating. We would also like the project to become a recurring one, either in its current form or something similar.” INITIAL RECRUITMENT DAY We have held an initial recuritment day, which we felt went really well. The candidates listened to a presentation of the company, were given a tour of the facilities and participated in quick interviews. We now look forward to the programme proceeding, from January until May 2020.
HOMECOMING EVENT IN STOCKHOLM The homecoming event PS Saknar dig (PS Miss You) at Skansen, was a success! The day saw more than a thousand visitors, amazing weather and a great atmosphere. Several of the visitors were either already on their way – or interested in – moving north. We hope that the visit to Skansen can encourage more people to choose Piteå or Skellefteå as their hometown.
PS. Miss You
WIBAX ONCE AGAIN ATTENDED Skansen and the homecoming event “PS Saknar dig”, an event jointly organised by the Piteå and Skellefteå councils. In addition to Wibax, other attendees were Sparbanken Nord, SunPine, Tromb, Install, OhMy and PiteBo. The event is primarily geared towards families with children, which meant that the making corner was a popular activity, and the much loved mascots Rejne from Piteå and Eddgar from Skellefteå were busy hugging everyone. 250 kilos of palt, northern Swedish potato dumplings, was served at the event, a much appreciated decision. Some tried it for the first time and described it as "love at first sight". This is an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, experience northern flavours, listen to business representatives from Piteå and
Skellefteå, and update yourself on what is going on back home. During the Friday, Caroline Häggström and Henrik Lundström attended the Royal Institute of Technology, where they presented Wibax as a company and met with students to tell them more about job opportunities at Wibax. During the Saturday, Annica Pettersson, Caroline Häggström and Sofia Stark attended the homecoming event "PS. Miss You" at Skansen. "It is important to be out and about, to show people that Piteå is an attractive city and the company is an attractive employer. We have gone from 100 to 200 employees in seven years and we keep growing, we need more people, both now and in the future", explains Annica Pettersson, HR Manager at Wibax.

WIBAX
invests in the southern Swedish market 10
Following a multi-million SEK investment to increase capacity and provide a high level of safety, the remodelling of Wibax’ Malmö terminal is now complete. “We are now ready to take a strong position in the market in southern Sweden”, reports Jonas Wiklund, CEO, Wibax Group.
WIBAX BIO OIL IN MALMÖ Pictured here is the unloading of our first marine shipment of bio oil, to the Malmö terminal, which is now ready to store bio oil. The terminal is of major strategic importance as it provides considerable benefits both when exporting to and importing from Europe. It is also well suited to several diferent types of transportration, such as ships, tanker trucks and railroad transport. "We see an increased demand for bio oil and we are now able to deliver bio oil in a quick and sustainable fashion to our customers in the area", explains David Wikslund, Managing Director at Wibax Biofuels.
THE MALMÖ TERMINAL IS STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED for deliveries to southern Sweden and Denmark, as well as for the import of various products from elsewhere in Europe. The Malmö terminal is Wibax’ southernmost location and an important hub in the country’s southern region, strengthening our operations in the expansive Öresund region.
Wibax acquired the Malmö terminal in 2014. Following a review and inventory of operations, there was a lengthy process requiring applications for environmental permits to cover new products. Once that was complete, extensive remodelling began, to increase capacity and provide a high level of security. Wibax has invested a total of 26 million SEK in the upgrade, which, in addition to the bunding, also included a new heating system, interior anti-corrosion paintwork, isolation of certain tanks, and new, safer loading facilities.
“With this investment, we have further strengthened safety at the Malmö terminal”, explains Anders Skoog, Operations Manager, Wibax Terminals. The Malmö terminal covers 18 000 m2 and consists of tanks with a total storage capacity of 13,300 m3. There are favourable conditions for managing marine shipments as well as shipment by rail and tanker trucks. The establishment in Malmö adds to Wibax’ total capacity for logistics and storage. “With the addition of the Malmö terminal, we can now service all of Sweden, and we see new markets here, both for chemicals and bio oils. We are excited about making a serious impact with our own products in Malmö and southern Sweden”, explains Jonas Wiklund, CEO, Wibax Group.
Wibax currently has a total of eight terminals in strategic locations throughout Sweden, as well as one in Finland. The terminals are of a very high standard, meeting high demands for safety. Amongst other things, there is a clear strategy to install bunding, which prevents leakage and contamination of the surrounding environment in the event of an accident. Wibax provides a full supply chain, from purchasing and production to storage and transport using our own tanker trucks. The level of safety and service is very high. For example, customers have the option to use online solutions to monitor current levels and withdrawals. The goal of our terminals is to be as close to our customers as possible, thereby keeping road transport at a minimum.
