Member Solutions Associate II Kelsey joined the WFCU team in October 2017. She has undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology, and has a passion for teaching. Kelsey recently returned from living in Taiwan for a year and a half, where she taught English to Kindergarten students. Kelsey added: “The kids in the classroom picture were my 3 and 4 year old students that I taught for a year in Taipei. When they started school, they didn't speak any English, and by the end of the rst Ā year they were speaking uent Ā English. They were the loveliest, sweetest bunch of kids. I miss them!”

Before moving back to Kansas, she spent 8 weeks backpacking in Bali, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. She added, “I've traveled to 10 countries in Asia, 2 in South America, and Canada.

Bali, Indonesia is my favorite place I've been to recently. Three friends and I rented scooters and drove around the entire island in 10 days. Bali is really a magical, surreal place – I highly recommend visiting!”

Just north of Chiang Mai, Thailand is a sanctuary for elephants rescued from the circus, and other industries in Southeast Asia. The Elephant Nature Park is home to 73 “retired” elephants, and Kelsey was fortunate to spend a week volunteering up close and personal with the elephants. “We fed, bathed and played with them. These giant animals couldn't be any sweeter or happier to have human companions, considering the abuse they've endured in the tourism sect.

The elephant I'm feeding in the picture is the biggest elephant at the park, weighing in at 4 tons!” added Kelsey.

Her goal is to visit 30 countries over the next several years. While growing up her family took her on many road trips, which is how her love for travel began. She has visited 39 of the 50 states.

Dana Winkler Scholarship Through the Dana Winkler Scholarship program Wichita Federal Credit Union has awarded over $87,000 to students in our community.

Each year WFCU awards up to eight $1,000 scholarships to qualied applicants. Ā The volunteers of the Scholarship Committee review applications to determine scholarship recipients.
