National Financial Literacy Month

April is National Financial Literacy Month. Have you taken the time to check out Banzai yet? Banzai is an interactive financial literacy learning tool designed to teach smart money management in a fun and engaging way. Banzai simulates real-life situations to teach not only the value of a dollar but also that sometimes life happens. It's not only for the kids! There's also Banzai Plus, an adult financial literacy course. Try it out for yourself and see how fun learning about finances can be! (Really, we're serious!)

Brittany joined the WFCU team in August of 2019 as a Mortgage Loan Specialist. With 13 years of experience in banking, she is a valuable asset to the credit union. Brittany started as a part-time teller in high school and eventually found a passion for real estate lending. While real estate lending has its obstacles, Brittany enjoys the challenge. She loves that she gets to help people make one of the biggest and most important purchases in their lives.

and Raelyn Rose, 3. She also has a third daughter on the way! Brittany says, “It may seem cliché as an accomplishment, but parenting has taught me a lot about life. I am blessed to be a mother and I strive to teach my girls how to be the best versions of themselves.”

Brittany considers one of her most significant accomplishments to be taking care of both of her grandparents for about a year before her grandfather passed away. At the same time, she was attending WSU, raising her daughter, Remi (three years old at the time), and working full-time. Brittany said, “Many memories were built through all of the hardships and challenges we faced during that time, and I'm proud and grateful for the sacrifices I made for my family.”

We asked Brittany what she likes about her role at WFCU. Brittany said, “Working at WFCU allows me to help members with more than just their home loans. I take a lot of pride in the fact that members put their trust in me to help them with their home loan needs. It is rewarding helping members from the application to signing documents at the closing table. I can also connect them with our accounts and consumer lending side to work towards their goals. All of us at WFCU work as a team, putting the member first and setting them up for success and financial stability. Nothing is more rewarding than giving members a great experience through all transactions they have with us, knowing that they have a Credit Union they can trust.”

Brittany’s other greatest accomplishment is being a mom to her two daughters, Remi Jade, 7,

CREDIT CORNER

with John Smutny

John Smutny

Welcome back to the Credit Corner. We are well over halfway through what makes up your credit score and have reviewed the top three factors: 35% Payment History, 30% Capacity, and 15% length of credit history. The next factor that makes up 10% of your credit is the combination of credit.

The combination of credit involved is as simple as it sounds; the credit models want to see that you can handle payments on different types of accounts. Whether it's a credit card, installment loan (car loan, for example) or mortgage, making payments and having recent activity on these accounts is what makes a difference. Come back next time, and we will go over what makes up the final 10% of your score. Thank you!
