Grand Champion of the International Red & White Show – Antia Absolute Joline-Red

Antia Absolute Joline-Red has been making waves in the show ring since 2018 but had never captured the Grand Champion title at World Dairy Expo. But 2021 was her year. Joline was purchased by Milk Source and Laurie Fisher at World Dairy Expo in 2018 and since then has been shown extensively.

Her long list of accolades includes being the first Junior 3-yearold and Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair in 2018. That same year she was the Reserve All-American Red & White Junior 3-year-old. 2019 brought success with being Honorable Mention Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair, Grand Champion of the Wisconsin Championship Red and White Show and Reserve All-American 4-Year-Old. With no World Dairy Expo in 2020, Joline made the trip to Ohio for the North American Open Dairy Cattle Show where she won the 5-year-old class in the Red and White Show. Earlier in 2020, she was the Grand Champion of the Wisconsin Championship Red and White Show. She repeated that Grand Champion title at the 2021 Wisconsin Championship Red and White Show before heading to the big dance and topping the International Red and White Show as the Grand Champion.

Joline has a Diamondback daughter that is a prospect for 2022. This winter she will have pregnancies by Analyst and Unstoppabull. She also has a Hanans June calf. Joline is due back in the summer of 2022 with her sixth calf.

Intermediate Champion of the Open and Junior Shows, Grand Champion of the Junior Show, International Red & White Show: Scenic-Edge Jordan-Red

Jacey and Hadley Ross may be from Arizona but they, along with their Holsteins, have found a home in Wisconsin. The Ross’s topped off their show season for Scenic-Edge Jordan-Red with earning the Intermediate Champion of the Open and Junior Shows andGrand Champion of the Junior Show in the International Red & White Show and then following that up with being selected Supreme Champion of the Junior Show the final day of World Dairy Expo.

Jordan hails from the same cow family at Scenic-Edge Holsteins that made another Supreme Champion of the Junior Show in 2008, Scenic-Edge Joyful-Red-ET EX-92. She is a max score EX-92 Jordy from Scenic-Edge Jasmine-Red EX-93 (Hestry). There is then a VG88 Maxwell from Scenic-Edge Jellybean EX-92 (Advent), who was the Junior Champion of the International Red & White Show in 2009. Jordan’s fourth dam, Scenic Edge Justine EX-92, is a full sister to Scenic-Edge Joyful-Red-ET. This entire family goes back to a VG86 Redmarker who has produced 34 All-American nominations, of which 10 have been All-American, eight have been Reserve AllAmerican and 12 have been Junior All-American.

Arizona Dairy Company and Jacey and Hadley Ross purchased Jordan through Graisson Schmidt from the Quest for Success Sale in March of 2019. From then on, she started to leave her stamp in the showring.

In 2019 she earned an impressive list of honors including Junior Champion of the Royal Winter Fair Red & White Show, Western Spring National Black and White and Red and White Shows, California State Black and White and Red and White Shows, in addition to being All-Canadian Red & White Summer Yearling and Junior All-American Red & White Summer Yearling. But even with these impressive honors, 2021 was the biggest year for Jordan and the Arizona Dairy Company crew.

Jordan took home the Intermediate Champion title of the Junior and Open Shows, Grand Champion of the Junior Show and Reserve Grand Champion of the Open Show at the Wisconsin Summer Championship Red & White Show.

Arizona Dairy is looking forward to 2022. Jordan is due back in April for the next show season and they have plans to IVF her for exportable embryos. The Ross girls own a variety of other soundpedigreed animals of which many are housed at Maple-Leigh

Futures in Delavan.

Other exciting Holsteins they own include St-Jacob Destry LavaRed-ET EX-93, Ms Unstopabul Beauty-In-Red VG-88, Apple-Pts Ainsa-Red VG-88, Arb-Flo-Spr Honeybun-Red-ET EX-92, Ms Fannys Flaunt It-Red-ET EX-91, Kress-Hill Smoke-Red-ET and R-John Crushin on Courtney EX-92. All of these animals, in their own right, have done well in the showring. Both girls love showing and continue to concentrate on the development of their show string.

Jacey and Hadley Ross were very active in their Odyssey 4-H Club. Both held leadership positions, showed dairy cattle, and participated in the dairy judging team. Recently, genetics have become a large part of the selection of their show cattle. Hadley is attending Central Arizona College. She is pursuing a degree in agriculture and works in the onsite IVF lab for the dairy. Jacey recently graduated with a cosmetology degree from the Aveda Institute and is working in a well-known resort in the Phoenix area.

Both girls continue to be a part of the Arizona Dairy operation. At Arizona Dairy, their focus is breeding for health, longevity and productivity for both their milking herd and show animals.

Reserve Junior Champion of the International Junior Red & White Show: Betley Unstp Lionize-Red-ET

Clarie and Jacob Betley of Pulaski have been showing dairy cattle since they were able to be Cloverbuds in 4-H. They started with showing black and white grade Holsteins from the Betley’s herd. As their passion for showing grew, the family started to purchase registered calves for the kids. Their love for their animals developed and their knowledge of the show world progressed. Claire and Jacob accomplished a huge goal at this year’s World Dairy Expo with a junior bred & owned heifer, Betley Unstp Lionize-Red-ET, taking home Reserve Junior Champion honors.

Over the years, the Betley kids have gotten a lot of help from Jay and Heather Jauquet in developing their show program. Claire’s first purchase was MD-West-View OK Siri-Red-ET in spring of 2017. Jacob’s first calf he bought was Jauquet On Point Amore in the spring of 2019. Both kids have added a purchase or two each year since. They’ve now been able to start their own show herd from the animals they purchased.

A renovated barn on their farm became the show barn for the kids’ animals. There are several pens with bedded pack areas and outside access. There is a wash rack outside and an area to do embryo work. The family also has some of the show heifers in the bedded pack calf barn where high genetic heifers are housed.

Claire’s focus has shifted to mainly Red and White Holsteins. She is currently the Wisconsin Red and White Dairy Cattle Princess. Jacob remains true to his black and whites. World Dairy Expo of 2019 was a special one for Claire when she purchased OCD Jo Lionking-RedET, the dam of Lionize, at the World Classic Sale. This is where their 2021 Expo story begins.

Before Expo, Lionize had moderate success at other shows, developing over the course of the year. She was third and second junior bred and owned at the Wisconsin State Fair Junior Dairy Show. Her shining moment came at World Dairy Expo when she was second open and junior in the winter calf class and in the Junior Champion run, was chosen as the Reserve Junior Champion of the Junior Show and then the Honorable Mention Junior Champion of the Show.

“This is a dream for so many breeders and show people, and Claire was lucky enough to enjoy this level of success as a 16-year-old,” Jena Betley says. “We have a lot of people to thank for our success in the ring that day. The people in the barn taking care of her and feeding her played a huge role. Two other people that I need to mention are Trent Styczynski and Laura Lesher. Without the help of these two very special people being involved with the kids and the show cattle, the success Lionize and Claire saw at Expo would not have been possible at all.”

Lionize’s family has also done well for the Betley kids. Her dam, Lionking, was fourth and second junior at the 2020 Wisconsin Championship Red and White Show and was nominated Junior All-American. Full sister, Leonine, was the third fall calf at the Wisconsin Junior State Fair Dairy Show in 2021. The Betleys also plan on showing two relatives of Lionize at NAILE in November.

In addition to the “L” family, Claire’s first red and white had some level of success at local shows and has several daughters in herd.

The Betley’s also purchased some cows from Jay and Heather Jauquet in 2017 including Synergy Jr Lovebug-Red, who was signed up for the Shawano County Futurity. Claire showed her in the Futurity and really enjoyed that experience. Lovebug also has several offspring in their herd.

Both kids are extremely involved – both play high school soccer and select league soccer, are a part of 4-H and FFA. Claire is an FFA officer and Jacob is a shadow officer this year. Jacob also sings in the high school choir, Claire plays in the band and really enjoys marching band and pep band.

The Betleys milk just over 2,600 cows in a 50-stall rotary parlor and crop 4,400 acres. The cows average between 100 and 105 pounds per day with 4.1 to 4.2 percent fat and 3.0 to 3.1 percent protein. For the past six years, their SCC has averaged around 70-80. The Betleys breed with sexed semen or Angus semen and also implant embryos, both from their top genetic families and for one of the bull studs. Their big project this year and into next is the building of digesters and a solar field with the intent of producing renewable natural gas.

We are honored and humbled with our results from this special group of heifers this year. Four of these heifers brought home a banner from four different shows! We are incredibly thankful for our partners and crew who helped to make it all happen, they are the best in the business. This is a labor of love for our family, and we are thankful for the friendships and memories made along the way. “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”
