WELCOME TO WILDSCREEN FESTIVAL 2016
F
CONTENTS
or more than thirty four years Wildscreen has been at the very heart of natural world storytelling. We have a unique and proven ability to convene the best photographers, filmmakers and conservationists to create compelling stories about a natural world under threat. These stories, now distributed globally through our channels and beyond, are inspiring a worldwide audience to experience, feel and take part in a worldwide conservation agenda. Powerful visual storytelling has been, and will always be, the cornerstone of our charitable activity. It has the power to transcend borders, languages, cultures and knowledge. The world’s filmmakers and photographers are our eyes on the natural world and it has some of the most amazing and exhilarating stories to tell. At a time when the natural world needs our help more than ever, the Festival, working hand-in-hand with our Arkive and Exchange projects, is a powerful tool for engaging millions of people around the world with the magnificence but also the fragility of our most precious resource. The 2016 Wildscreen Festival programme is centred around storytelling, focussing on the evolution of how and where stories about the natural world are told and how we reach new audiences so that many more people have the opportunity to experience, feel part of, and help to protect nature. For the first time we’ve integrated the craft of stills photography firmly into the DNA of the Wildscreen Festival – because telling a story in a
single frame deserves to be celebrated too. Friday 14 October sees an unrivalled international lineup of award-winning wildlife and environmental photographers, delivering their expertise on how to break in to the industry, survive and grow and deliver real awareness and conservation impact. We’re also immensely proud to have expanded the public side of the Festival with ‘Witness the Wild’, our most ambitious attempt yet to engage the local community. With street art, pedal-powered cinemas, an open-air photography exhibition, the Panda Awards ceremony and more, Bristol can get up close and personal with the industry and its work, but most importantly, the natural world. For you, it’s a packed five days of 120+ hours of content from more than 150 speakers from across the globe. The programme is diverse, experimental and future-focussed, with a stellar line-up featuring the most talented storytellers, worldclass musicians, premieres, Hollywood actors, environmental thought-leaders, virtual reality, Netflix and Attenborough. And of course none of this would be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, partners, creatives and crew for which the Wildscreen team is immensely grateful. This year, we're very proud to have created a Festival that truly embodies the meaning of the word, and we hope you enjoy all it has in store for you.
