Facility Updates As we continue to expand and renovate the Department of Athletics and Recreation we would like to thank all patrons for their patience and feedback regarding our renovation projects. We are excited to see the opportunities this new phase of growth will present and we will be continuing to look for ways to serve you better in the future. The month of August will see the completion of three of our renovation projects. This year general maintenance involved a complete sanding, new artwork and upgrading the Basketball court to meet new FIBA standards. This new surface will provide an excellent foundation for our recreational users, intramural teams, and varsity program to play out of. All of the facility maintenance is scheduled around the return of varsity programs, which will start with training camps in midAugust. At this time facility traffic will increase as athletes prepare for the 20122013 varsity campaigns. August saw the delivery of the first phases of new equipment for the Fitness Centre. The first phase involves moving in any equipment that will be replacing our current equipment roster. Our Fitness Centre will offer $250,000 worth of new equipment, which was chosen based upon user requests and projected demand. New equipment (i.e. ellipticals, bikes, treadmills, circuit & strength equipment) will continue to arrive until the end of the August. If you have any questions about operating the new equipment, just ask the Fitness Desk Attendant and they will be more than happy to assist you. Looking towards the end of the month, the change room and Hawk Shop renovation will be completed. Until the end of the renovations showers will be available at University Stadium from 7:30am-9:30am for use. We thank you for your patronage of the facility this summer and we welcome back all students & members for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Recreation Updates

The end of July brought our summer recreation programming to an end. This year saw a variety of programming spread out over 12 weeks and we are thankful for your participation. After several weeks of competition, Intramural Co-Ed Outdoor Soccer team Bayern Neverlosen took the title, while Kevin Peck took home the coveted T-shirt in squash. Healthy Living

Reassessing Before the Start of School With the end of the summer approaching, now is a great time to reassess your fitness plan and goals. By checking your progress, you can make improvements to your plan and can be further motivated by realizing how far you have come. By logging your work outs, even quarterly, you can easily compare where you are to where you have been. This will let you more accurately set your goals and highlight areas of improvement in your work out plan. If your results are below where you expected them to be, do not be discouraged. Try to look for reasons that may have caused you to underperform. Were your goals unrealistic? Did you take a vacation from the gym for a week? A simple reflection will assist you in assembling your plan for the fall. When making your plan it is important to make adjustments for the season that we are entering. The fall will see Thanksgiving dinners, the stresses of school, and other events that can hinder your goals. By looking ahead you will be able to foresee these challenges and build them into your plan. This will increase your chances of success and will increase your motivation to attend the gym and take advantage of the new equipment offered. Ingredients Page 2
