In parallel, WLearn, a modern training platform, was launched and has engaged over 3,500 seafarers with interactive courses on safety, mental health, and practical skills, with mandatory enrollment beginning in January 2025. These system enhancements advance safer and more efficient maritime operations while embracingdigitalization.

The integration of Zeaborn Ship Management into Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel Ship Management is progressing well, with significant developments and milestones achievedsinceApril2024.
Completed in March 2024, the merger brings together two prominent Hamburg-based companies, MPC Capital and WilhelmsenShipManagement.100%ownershipisnowheld by the Wilhelmsen and Schroeder families, who have a long history in shipping and bring a stable, long-term vision to thebusiness
Joint Managing Directors Michael Silies and Michael Brandhoff highlighted the positive impact of this ownership change, noting the families’ commitment to the shipping industry has brought stability and growth potential to the organization
The merger consolidates the operations of Zeaborn, MPC Capital’s Ahrenkiel, and Wilhelmsen Ship Management, creatingaformidableforceinglobalshipmanagement.
With over 200 vessels under management, including technicalmanagement, crewmanagement, andtankers, the new entity is now Germany’s largest ship manager by fleet size This positions Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel as a competitive player with strong international reach, serving clients across20countries
Aswecontinuetoalignoperations, systems, andteams,we are excited to share the latest updates on this important merger

Feedback from clients has been overwhelmingly positive since the merger, with companies like Tufton Oceanic and AP Moller-Maersk praising Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel for its commitmenttotransparencyandpartnership
The company remains open to further consolidation, but Michael Brandhoff alludes that smaller managers with limited vessel numbers may not be the focus. Hecla Emissions Management, a joint venture between Wilhelmsen Ship Management and Affinity Shipping LLP, has launched the FuelEU Maritime Exchange (FME) in a groundbreaking move for maritime sustainability. Officially rolled out as the industry’s first platform dedicated to the secure trading of FuelEU Maritime compliance balances, FME facilitates the shift toward alternative, low-carbon fuels.
The platform leverages digital ledger technology to tokenize compliance balances, making them tradeable per voyage. This approach means stakeholders can trade or transfer balances in real-time without waiting until the complianceperiod’send
The FME provides a secure and orderly marketplace, helping the industry realize the financial value of compliance balances.
Øyvind Størdal HeclaEmissionsManagement
With the FuelEU Maritime regulation set to take effect in January 2025, requiring vessels over 5,000 GT to report fuel carbon intensity, Hecla’s FME fills a critical gap By providing the structure for balance trading, the platform enables those exceeding carbon targets to acquire surplus balances, creating a seamless, market-driven compliance system
Through innovations like FME, Hecla Emissions Management is paving the way for sustainable regulatory compliance in shipping, while building a foundation for future-readyenvironmentalstewardship.
