Land Acknowledgment

This land acknowledgment is to bring awareness to the first peoples of this land we call home. It is important to understand the history that has brought us to reside on the land and to seek to understand our place in that history.

We are located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. The Kalapuya people were dispossessed of their indigenous homelands following the treaties between 1851 and 1855. Then the Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to the Grand Ronde Reservation west of Salem. Today, Kalapuya descendants are primarily citizens of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, they continue to make important contributions to their communities, our local community, the state of Oregon, and the world. We recognize these lands and waters and their significance for the Kalapuya people who lived and continue to live in this region.

We also express our respect to the many tribes that have ancestral connections to this land, and all Indigenous people who call this land their home.

This acknowledgment was adopted by the Willamalane Board of Directors on October 11, 2023.

Support Parks and Programs with the Willamalane Park Foundation

A thriving system of parks, trails and open spaces, along with a robust array of recreation and activity options, is essential to creating a healthy and happy community. Since 1983, the all-volunteer Willamalane Park Foundation has worked to supplement the work of Willamalane Park and Recreation District. Through fundraising and community advocacy, the Willamalane Park Foundation supports efforts to preserve and enhance open spaces and expand access to exceptional community programs.

Improving Playgrounds for Happy Preschoolers

Willamalane Park and Recreation District’s preschool program is growing to meet the needs of our community. Last December, the Willamalane Park Foundation launched a campaign to support a new preschool playground at Bob Keefer Center. Thanks to the generosity of individual and business donors over $50,000 has been contributed to the preschool playground project so far.

Keeping Kids Active in Summer

The Willamalane Park Foundation is a long-time supporter of the 1Pass program. This summer activity pass provides access to summer activities for local kids at venues in Springfield and Eugene, including Willamalane facilities. Last summer 33 scholarships were provided to help remove financial barriers and ensure more of our community is able to participate in this popular program.

Beautifying Springfield with New Trees

Due to the January ice storm, nearly a third of trees across Willamalane parks were lost or damaged. Re-planting costs averaged $400 per tree. Willamalane Park Foundation donors stepped up to support replanting efforts.

Get Involved!

The Willamalane Park Foundation exists thanks to committed donors and an engaged business community. Together, we can enhance the parks, activities, and programs our community enjoys and depends on. Learn more at willamalane.org/donate
