HI! My name: Will Fu a student, optimist, and lover of all things creative. Through research, and experimentation, I continue on a life long passion to learn how the shaping and connection of architecture can influence the way we communicate, percieve, and interact with the urban environment around us. Please view and critique my work. Thank you.

CREATIVE [+] 3A Studio: Philip Beesley Liberty Village, Toronto, ON Jan 2015

Creative [+] gives all emphasis on the creative industry, seeing this new economic working class as a return to the human free from the mechanical industry of labour and back into the workshops of individual specialization, creating value and innovation to the individual.

Liberty village needs the public park qualities and market amendities on the ground to help bridge the new population of the working class filtering from the newly developed GO train station to their residences. The ground condition aims to expose the creative activites agglomerated at the ‘plus’ spaces to the public as they walk through the market, retail, plaza areas, and landscape.

The landscape is set for a series of concentrated activites and program reflecting the malleable line between interior and exterior. Dedicated paths allow for market and retail modules public access and fluid circulation

The creative industry is as diverse as the inventions it produces, and through interaction, these individuals generate the cultural and creative artifacts in which in turn enrich everyday life.

The aim of the research is to not only help classify and generate the suitable modules of architecture in which these professionals can work in but to utilize these modules to define specific placements of spaces and public programs in order to cater to suitalbe interaction required for maximum creativity.

overall programming noise level

The project investigates the modules of the typical office, modules of the four categorized creative classes: art, media, performance, and tech. int + ext collab

Then using the architectural constraints of each module type, determine varying levels of interation each class have with each other in order to situate and generate a vertical scheme with embedded programs to encourage circualtion, chance meetings, and collaboration between the floors.

MONSTER1: THE COLLECTOR MONSTER Awards 2015 / Runner up International June 2015

The Collector is a monster that undermines the image based perception of architecture by filtering iconic projects from context, the virtual web, and the shields of architectural critic’s texts and magazines, in order to distil out two fundamental ideas of building; form and presence. The idea is to put all future icons of distinct distortions on a common ground to determine the next horror for architecture while restating that architecture is not just than an exterior manipulation for identity and pleasure for the eyes, but an engaging and social enigma.

The Collector is a machine for analysis through the careful curated layers of openness to framed viewing, allowing an unbiased look at future representations of society while reiterating the importance of substance, space, and presence in a continually virtualized age. Their true shock factor will be under investigation when matched against other icons equally grotesque. From a mutual plane, the general public’s embody the true will and future of architectural forms.

MONSTER 2: VIRTUAL PUBLIC Dear Architecture 2015 / HM [4th place] International Aug 2015

Dear Architecture, Stop with the constant selfies please. Thanks.

“Rather than the journey it’s more than ever about the time of capture. The end images, frozen in virtual space, floats from device to device, shared, and liked. We double tap our screens, eyes scroll quickly, comment, giving quick little hearts.” “We need an architecture not defined by an icon, the number of likes, or a single image, but an architecture celebrated through habitation, memories, and true physical presence.”

AGRI-EVOLUTION GARDEN 2B Studio: Lola Sheppard Milton Quarry, ON July 2014

The agri-evolution education centre is situated at the entrance of milton quarry. This centre showcases the evolution of selected cash crops and the horticulture associated with these early domesticated plants. The goals of the centre was to create a main circulation path in which layers of information, sectional relationships, and views of the landscape are gradually revealed before one exits the building to disperse out into the fluctuating topography of the landscape.

PROJECTION CENTRE 2A Studio: Adrian Blackwell Cambridge,ON Dec 2013

The Projection Centre primarily focuses on establishing a connection between activites through the views, and movement of the user. The cultural centre is comprised of three fragments: the visual arts centre, the performance art centre, and the fitness centre. These fragments read as a extrusion from the landscape while the 2nd floor sits as the single monolithic build form on the site.
