clients. In this approach, Steve views drawing as the medium that seeks and evokes, tests intuition, and is a way of “thinking aloud” on paper. The sketch is a dialog between designer and client, a touchstone of the design process that draws on a client’s personality and their sense of place. Since establishing his San Francisco-based interior design studio in 2005, Steve Justrich has created a diverse body of projects that are neither formulaic nor predictable. Steve’s formal education in Architecture and 25 years of experience in interior design allows him to 7

effectively collaborate with architects in translating the spirit of his vision into sound designs that artfully integrate interior architecture, finishes, and furnishings. Steve values the tradition of decoration and historic styles as well as the staying power of a classic and natural modernism. He looks forward to projects that provide new challenges and exploration. Prior to establishing his own studio, Steve was principal project designer for interior architecture at Barbara Scavullo Design in San Francisco. His design leadership helped to 8

create an impressive body of residential interior architecture for the firm between 1998 and 2003. In addition to his residential design experience, Steve served as executive director for a downtown revitalization program near Santa Fe, New Mexico, a project underwritten, in part, by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This project presented a rare opportunity to create a unified vision reflective of the diverse community’s business owners, architects, city planners, community activists, and local, state, and tribal government officials. 11

Steve began his design career with The Hillier Group, an international architecture and interior design firm headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey. He worked on a variety of projects that included the transformation of an historic train station into an upscale restaurant, the design of The Steelcase furniture showroom in New York City, and the renovation of an industrial building into an art school for the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. His work has been featured in Interiors, California Home and Design, Western Interiors, 12
