The Williston Northampton School is more than that which is visible to the outside eye. Our school goes beyond the call of an ordinary high school. What you get out of any experience is directly proportional to what you put into it, and our school has certainly proven that to be true: for every game won, athletes endure hours of grueling practice and intense workouts; for every perfect show, actors, dancers, crew members, and directors go through countless rehearsals and a long tech week; and for every good grade, students spend late nights in the library studying and attend numerous extra help sessions. Whether you personally have been at Williston for six years or for one, everything that you have gained from your time here is yours because you worked for it, and because you made it happen, here at Williston, where we go above and beyond that which is expected. And while we have each enjoyed our time here, we, the Williston Northampton class of 2013, will soon go beyond campus. So, too, will we go beyond our individual and collective experiences at Williston, experiences that have given us the stepping stones to accomplish our dreams, beyond what we have already accomplished here. Williston has allowed us to soar to extraordinary heights, and though we will be leaving Williston, we will not be leaving it behind as we head off, above and be ond. s, "ir

When this teacher was hired in 1975, The Williston Northampton School was looking for a passionate math and science teacher for its middle school, to strengthen its mathematical program. He was quickly considered the "first choice" candidate for the position; in a memo to hiring head of school Bob Ward, then Assistant Head of School Karin O'Neil called him "a dynamic, well-qualified teacher who could add to the school in many ways." This man was indeed the dynamic teacher who would change the math department and inspire hundreds of students along the way. Although he started teaching in the middle school, this teacher ultimately moved to the upper school. In his time here, he has also served as the Computer Program Director, taught programming and computer literacy, served as an advisor, served as a faculty Arete officer, and run the school's Math Club. Today, however, he is perhaps most known for challenging young minds in advanced mathematics courses, including BC and Multivariable Calculus, which he introduced to the school five years ago. In 1989, after earning his doctorate in Mathematics Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he also began his tenure as the head of the Williston Math Department, a position which he maintained for an impressive nineteen years, until 2008. In addition to being an extraordinary high school teacher, he has also taught summers at Mount Holyoke College, published three books on mathematics, ranging from textbooks to a collection of mathematical games and puzzles, and is an ever-engaged intellectual and quintessential colleague. Through his many accomplishments, this teacher has been invaluable to Williston. This man is highly regarded as one the school's most rigorous and passionate teachers. This teacher's love of teaching and of math is contagious and has made a lasting 1 impact on the Williston community during his tenure here: his students, past and present, over the last thirty eight years, would agree that his classes are unforgettable. In his 2006 Cum Laude speech, he shared with the greater Williston community his passion for and dedication to mathematics, factors that have helped him to be the excellent teacher that he is today. For all of these reasons, and with gratitude, we the senior class of 2013, have chosen to dedicate our yearbook to Dr. Alan Lipp.

ar Readers, len I first set foot on campus in 2007, I never thought I would be the creator of what my graduating class uld use to relive the memories of our senior year. The past six years have brought a lot of change, both hin me personally and with Williston as a school. One thing, though, has always remained constant: the nmunity here, especially the class of 2013, has been invaluable. My experiences here were beyond what I ild have imagined, and I hope that this yearbook reflects that. eating the yearbook is the most challenging task I have ever faced, and I would never have accomplished this 'or feat without the following people: Other than myself and the editors that came before me, you and you alone know the insanity that is ating a yearbook. Even without the crazy amounts of work it entails to advise the yearbook, you are one of busiest people I know, yet you still do the extra work, year after year. It is incredible how much you do, and 1 do not get nearly enough credit, recognition, or thanks for all of your hard work. I have learned so much you these past three years that I have been part of The Log, especially this past one. Your attention to ail and immense determination have helped me so much, and without you the book would have come out ch less well done. Thank you for helping me through everything. I would not be where I am without you. I - my success to you. inah Lee: Thank you for always being up to anything I asked of you. Your determination and work ethic e made great contributions to this book, and I know that you will continue to do amazing things in the 4ing years. Tallman and Laura Bowman: Thank you for being the most reliable photographers an editor could ask for. a both always delivered, regardless of the size or lack of prior notice of a task. I truly appreciate all of your d work. read Poulin, Cameron Zawacki, and Mika Chmielewski: Though you were not officially part of the yearbook I owe the three of you a debt of gratitude, for without your help the book would remain unfinished. ether you were helping me with tedious layouts, jumping in last minute to take a picture when no one else Id, gathering necessary information, or making me laugh and helping me after you had listened to me rant ut the troubles I faced with this difficult job — when I got to the very ssful end, you were always there to help me out. You used valuable )unts of your own free time to help me make deadlines and give me the port I needed to get through the stress. Thank you for your friendship; ik you for everything. nk you to the rest of the yearbook staff, my family, my friends, and to the re Williston community. And finally, thank you to the class of 2013 for g me the inspiration and determination to create this yearbook. se past six years have given me experiences I will never forget, and I ted to make this yearbook as good as it could possibly be to honor what have all given me. I could not have asked for a better class. erely,

ah Barker or-in-chief 23 1

Dear Class of 2013: Each year, I have the honor and pleasure of writing this letter for the yearbook, and each year I face the same dilemma: how do you capture a year in a few short paragraphs? 2013—maybe you will remember it as the "year of the new daily schedule," or maybe you will remember it as the year when Super Storm Sandy wreaked havoc on the East Coast and made it very hard for a number of students to return to school.

No matter what lens you use to look back, I hope that you do so celebrating all of the good moments that were part of your Williston Northampton experience, which for some of you means the last six years of your lives. I can think of so many highlights to mark your passage: the outstanding performances onstage in productions like The Importance of Being Earnest, Fiddler on the Roof, and Rumors, an exciting Powder-Puff football game; soccer teams competing in the New England tournaments, the Widdigers and Caterwaulers filling Fenway Park with their voices for a holiday sing, and the countless ways that you raised support and awareness for causes from fighting cancer to aiding homeless shelters. These are just some of the things that defined the year and set a community tone of compassion and caring. There were also memorable stories. Think back on former Boston Celtic Chris Herren's moving talk at Diversity Day, or our own Ryan Tyree's encouragement for us to "trickle up" as we make decisions in life that affect ourselves, others, and the communities in which we live. As you leaf through the pages of this yearbook, I hope a smile crosses your face and you find yourself reflecting on those friends, teachers, advisers, and coaches who impacted you in meaningful and everlasting ways. Good luck, Class of 2013, as you pursue lives filled with Purpose, Passion, and Integrity. /

All my best, a,

Robert W. Hill III
