Existing Concepts
Live Brief_2 Intern
Looking into existing indie magazines to get a better feel for what is already out there and to give us inspiration. We found there was a huge amount of magazine concepts out there, all varying in different themes ranging from style to culture, to the arts to travel.

Something else that we found evident from this research was that all of the publications were very well designed and aesthetically considered. We acnowledged that for our magazine to stand out on a shelf full of others it would need to look the part.
With this in consideration though, it did feel as though they were all slightly too similar. We felt we wanted to try and avoid the obvious sort of things you’d expect a magazine to be about and maybe try to be a bit more controvesial.

Decisions
Live Brief_2 Intern
After brainstorming and boucing ideas off one another, we decided that the concept would focus on stories and secrets, told by the people of Britain; playing almost on the idea of a gossip magazine, but much more hip and without all the celebrity nonsense. We decided that a good way to keep the magazine series concise would be if each issue focused upon a particular profession - primaily ones that may have led people to have slightly more controversial stories to tell.

Playing on the idea of a different perspective, we decided that each publication would have two covers. An inner cover would have a full bleed image, with an outer die-cut cover only revealing the title and a small segment of the image beneath. This would not only make the magazine unique but would also mean that the audience would have to actually open it to find out what it is about.
The magazine would not just act as a form of entertainment though, it would also be about seeing professions from a different point of view. #03

Stories could be told by both people with these occupations, and those who are on the other end. The magazine is essentially about looking at life through a perspective that would not be normally seen or known about.
