LONG ISLAND COMMUNITY AGRICULTURE NETWORK
The main driving force behind the Mountain View Community Garden conceptual master plan was to imagine a place that was inherently relaxing and free of strict use designations. To accomplish this, a set of loose programmatic elements was chosen to guide the design.
Alternatively, this design is intended to be an open use relaxation garden. The central open lawn acts as a gathering space for community members, inviting them to explore the rest of the site. A unified plant palette was carefully and specifically chosen to showcase the different colors, textures, and sensory aspects present in the design. To provide community members with a centralized meeting space, a six hundred square foot pavilion will be constructed on site. Semi-private picnic nooks are surrounded by hedge rows to provide community members with ample utility space. Several swinging benches and overhead trellises contribute to the overall relaxing theme. This community garden can become a place for social and cultural neighborhood development, potentially becoming an integral component to the Mountain View Neighborhood, the Roanoke River Greenway, and the City of Roanoke as a whole.
MASTER PLAN
Primarily, the site exists as a community garden. The provided plots are arranged in a radiating grid layout to accommodate communal interaction and ease of access. A variety of plots are proposed in this design: five large, ten small, four raised accessible planters, and an open use herb patch. The variation in planter size aims to entice community members of all ages to participate in the garden.
