BOTIQUE HOTEL DESIGN PROJECT
Equinox Montreal is the first hospitality project that Sheng Wei (Wilson) did in his 5th-semester studio class. This Boutique hotel design showcases his unique language of design and professional skill of his work aesthetically and graphically. At the first stage of the project, students are required to research the site and a brand that they want to focus on. In this stage, Wilson came across an interesting idea that what if it would be like the lifestyle of Equinox collide with the era in the late 19th century? With a modern twist that appreciates the traditional language of design and combines today’s technology. The entire project includes different spaces of the hotel from public environment to private space. “Deconstruction the Tradition” The design challenge of this project is to capture the stately and symmetric space in an irregular shape building. The solution will focus on creating symmetry and repeated frames structure along the tilted side give the illusion of being inside a perfect rectangular box. Also create another rhythm of entrances that overlap the rhythm of the traditional panel structure to represent the harmony between the old and new. Equinox Montreal is an example of a design that not only embraces modern technology and lifestyle but also heritage the site’s rich history and architecture itself. By the concept of “Deconstruction of Beaux Art”, extract the form, detail elements, and materials of the Beaux Art languages, recreate the hotel that gives the guests a unique experience of a beautiful collage of the luxury social club in the 19th century.
