Notre-Dame BlessĂŠe!!
By Isabelle & Eliza
La polĂŠmique en bref: Qui/Quoi? Pourquoi? OĂš? Quand? It was the afternoon of an ordinary day in paris, when something devastating happened, which would change the world for life. The spire of the Notre-Dame cathedral was transformed on monday evening into a giant torch before collapsing, devoured by flames. An enormous fire burst out, on 15th April, in this religious building, a historic symbol of Paris. There is not suggestion that the fire was started by criminal means, nor that it was intentional - the most likely cause for the fire is a badly stubbed out cigarette or electrical fault. The 850-year-old building's spire and roof collapsed in the fire but the main structure, including its two bell towers, was saved.Hundreds of millions of pounds have since been donated to restore the beloved cathedral, which draws an estimated 13 million visitors each year.
Nos avis While the Notre Dame is an exceptional work of architecture and is very close to the hearts of many French people (as well as those around the world), the money poured into its funds for reconstruction by willing multi millionaires shows just how reluctant even the richest business men and public figures in the world are to fund other, arguably more important causes that are threatening our earth. It was stated that the more than $1 billion that was donated to the Notre Dame would be enough to clean up the entire Pacific Garbage patch. Isabelle and I find it interesting how when it comes to issues that are killing ending lives and destroying our world and oceans, no one is ready to lend their earnings to it, however suddenly, when it comes to something grand and monumental, and symbolic of the wealth of a country such as the Notre Dame, people are willing to turn out their pockets.
