‘Knowledge is no longer a fountain sealed’ The original motto of the Girls’ Day School Trust succinctly tells the story: girls who had previously been denied an education would, through the setting up of schools like Wimbledon across the country, at last have the chance to study, to revel in the delight of scholarship and intellectual discovery. Almost 140 years since the founding of Wimbledon High, we rightly celebrate that heritage, and in doing so, we reflect on how we can build on the school’s success and embrace the challenges of a very different world for the young women who stride out of our Mansel Road gates to university and beyond. Since that very first lesson in 1880, from small things, greatness has indeed come. As the twelfth Head of this amazing school, the community of wonderful girls, staff, parents and alumnae never fails to inspire me. I hope you enjoy reading more about our project - we can only do this with your support. JAN E LUN N O N HEAD

Our educational philosophy
Education, from the Latin educare, ‘to lead out’, is about finding the thing inside each and every one of our girls that makes them laugh, dream, wonder, play and work hard - and ultimately excel. As a leader in girls’ education, we have for the past few years championed an innovative cross-curricular approach that brings learning alive. Our greatest challenge in delivering our vision is the physical setting of the school. Whilst we are very proud of our architectural heritage and our historic position in the heart of the community, we are significantly restricted by the current layout of our estate, the pressure on communal spaces and the condition of some of our key buildings. Our new learning spaces will match the educational philosophy of the school, and will be of benefit to the wider community, reflecting the growth of our partnerships.

STEAM Tower, Dining Hall J U L Y 2 0 1 9 TO D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 0
Expanding and redeveloping the Science Block to create a STEAM Tower (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths), providing a unique space for cross curricular study and research for girls of all ages. • Four new classrooms, including a new laboratory and an open plan art space at the top of the building • Multi-purpose learning spaces will be developed to support research and collaborative learning • The STEAM Tower will become the new home for design and technology: graphics, product design and textiles
Digital technology touches every part of our lives and has the power to bring learning to
life in new ways. These new collaboration spaces will help our students become confident and creative problem-solvers, which is incredibly exciting.

The top floor of our STEAM Tower will provide a dedicated space for our Year 12 and 13 students from September 2020 to September 2022 with their own common room, and study areas • Re-siting of the Dining Hall to Hastings will double the current seating capacity and create a beautiful new restaurant and kitchen
Taking time each day to meet together, eat well and take a break from our busy day is so important for each and every one of our girls - to allow them to emerge refreshed and rejuvenated to take on whatever the day may bring! C L AIR E B OY D , H E A D O F J U N I O R S

Sixth Form Centre, Assembly Hall, Playground in the Sky JA N UA R Y 2 0 2 1 TO S U M M E R 2 0 2 2
A new Sixth Form Centre that offers an inspiring, sophisticated and appropriate space that bridges school and university life. • Dedicated areas for study and relaxation • Library and resource centre to enable independent study time • Careers centre for focused advice around university options and beyond • Café and gym to support student well being
The transition between school and university is such an important step - and one where we work individually with each of our girls to enable them to excel in their chosen subjects and make the right choices as they stride out to the next adventure. Our new Sixth Form Centre will support that journey beautifully with bespoke spaces created solely for Year 12 and 13.

• A Hall alongside the new Sixth Form Centre for all our senior school girls to gather in one place for assembly to double up as a performance and event space for the whole school to enjoy • A new, beautifully enclosed, secure playground, on top of our new Assembly Hall, which will be known as our “Playground in the Sky” for Junior girls
The hall is the heart of a school - somewhere where everyone can gather. Our Senior Hall will always hold a special place for me - a place where I was inspired in an assembly, took part in a production, heard amazing speakers or sang in the choir. I have no doubt the new assembly hall will be just this place for future generations of girls.
