As a friendly reminder, please turn off all electronic devices that might disrupt worship. In the interest of security, please keep purses and other valuables with you at all times. Washrooms can be accessed through the doors on the left hand side at the back of the Church on the opposite side to the entrance. Your family is welcome at St. James’. There is a play area with toys and colouring books at the back of the Church. The sacrament of reconciliation (confession) is available. Speak with a priest to make an appointment. The Mass booklet contains all the prayers and information required to participate in the Mass. The directions given in this booklet to stand, sit, and kneel are offered as guidelines to those who are able. The symbol + indicates when to make the sign of the Cross. It is also customary to make a discreet bow at the name of Jesus. You are encouraged to take the opportunity before Mass for silence, stillness, and prayer. Please refrain from talking before Mass begins. The Thurible CLERGY NOTES Statement from the Primate concerning Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 Once again we are dismayed by the enormity of destruction caused when an airplane crashes and takes the lives of dozens of people in a moment. This tragedy takes on even more poignancy when those who have died lived in our communities and were our friends and neighbours. We have all been touched by the stories and photographs of Canadians and students studying in Canada who were on Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 that crashed outside of Tehran. Children, families, students and professors were among the victims and our hearts grieve their loss. The darkness of grief invites us to look to Epiphany, the revelation of the light of Christ in our midst, for the possibility of hope. That hope is seen when we come
together to remember, to grieve and to pray. It is seen when people of all faiths stand in solidarity across Canada especially in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia where the victims lived.
It is seen when we offer and remember the victims and their families in our prayers, not only now but in the weeks to come as their loss is fully realized. We especially pray for the Iranian community across Canada, from among whom came many of those who died.

LIFE ON THE MARGINS Jacob's Well is a faith based non-profit located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. We seek mutually transformative friendship with those on the margins of society and equip others to do the same in their own context. Each year we host a two-day workshop in which we talk about charity, justice and how we share life with people living on the margins and we would like to invite your congregation to join us. The event, Life on the Margins, will be held Jan. 24 -25 at our location 543 Powell St. We charge a cover entry as we provide snacks for both days and a meal for the Saturday. $30 in advance and $35 at the door. OUTREACH COMMITTEE THANK YOU In 2019 the St. James’ Outreach Committee gave a grant of $500 to the Coming Home Society to support our partnership with Warriors Against Violence Society.
