As a friendly reminder, please turn off all electronic devices that might disrupt worship. In the interest of security, please keep purses and other valuables with you at all times. Washrooms can be accessed through the doors on the left hand side at the back of the Church on the opposite side to the entrance. Your family is welcome at St. James’. There is a play area with toys and colouring books at the back of the Church. The sacrament of reconciliation (confession) is available. Speak with a priest to make an appointment. The Mass booklet contains all the prayers and information required to participate in the Mass. The directions given in this booklet to stand, sit, and kneel are offered as guidelines to those who are able. The symbol + indicates when to make the sign of the Cross. It is also customary to make a discreet bow at the name of Jesus. You are encouraged to take the opportunity before Mass for silence, stillness, and prayer. Please refrain from talking before Mass begins. A Reflection JESUS IS COME Jesus is come-the Word of God hath spoken it: first to Mary by the tongue of her travail, to Joseph next in the night-visions, to poor shepherds by a chorus of angels, to the wise and wealthy through the shining of a star, to the whole world by a Babe. The Word of God hath spoken it, JESUS IS COME-to save the pitiful lost children of men; save, by the glory of a lowly life, which all eyes should see; save, by the voice of truth which all ears may hear; save, by the compassion of a heart, which we pierced. The Word of God, HIMSELF, hath spoken it, JESUS, SAVIOUR, IS COME that we might have life more and more abundantly, His infinite lowliness hath exalted us, his infinite love forgiven and renewed, his infinite majesty summoned us to an infinite hope and crown. JESUS IS COME-who is over all, God, blessed for ever.

Assuming that he was in the group of travellers, they went a day's journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. The Thurible Notes from the Clergy First, thank you to all those who worked hard in so many ways to prepare for and deliver our Christmas worship, enabling us to give worthy thanks and praise to God for the coming amongst us of the Word made flesh, Emmanuel, God-with-us. It is with this confidence that God is indeed with us, reinforced, as Mother Lucy reminded us on Christmas Eve, by the angels’ repeated message, to the shepherds, to Mary, to Joseph, “Do not be afraid,” that despite the upheavals in the world around us we can look forward into 2019. As we give thanks for the blessings of years past, we pray God’s blessing on the year to come. At St. James’ we look forward to the completion early in the New Year of the renovation and
refurbishment of the rectory. Under the wise direction of the Renovation Committee and project manager Nancy Holme, Ratio Architecture and Scott Construction have transformed the space, in sympathy with its heritage character, into meeting and hospitality rooms, together with a new office suite. This will provide a parish-hub, parish centre, easily accessible from Cordova Street. Subject to the necessary permits, it is hoped that we shall move into the new centre towards the end of February. Exciting times!
