A Reflection THE PRAISES OF MARY O how wondrous is the dignity of the glorious virgin! She merited to become the mother of Him Who is the strength and beauty of the angels and the grandeur of all the saints. Mary was the seat of our sanctification, that is to say, The dwelling place of the Son who sacrificed himself for us. “And I shall glorify the place where my feet have stood. The feet of the Saviour signify his human nature. The place where the feet of the Saviour stood Was the blessed Mary, Who gave him his human nature.
Today the Lord glorifies that place, Since he has exalted Mary Above the choirs of angels. That is to say, The Blessed Virgin, Who was the dwelling of the Saviour, Has been assumed bodily into heaven.

SOLEMN PROCESSION Priest People
The Lord be with you. And with thy Spirit.
During the solemn procession the following hymn will be sung. A station will be made at the Lady Altar, during which the versicle and response on page 8 will be sung. HYMN 188 Green Hymn Book (New English Hymnal) — Ye Who Own the Faith of Jesus Ye who own the faith of Jesus sing the wonders that were done, when the love of God the Father o’er our sin the victory won, when he made the Virgin Mary mother of his only Son. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace. 6 | SOLEMN MASS
Blessèd were the chosen people out of whom the Lord did come, blessèd was the land of promise fashioned for his earthly home; but more blessed far the mother, she who bare him in her womb. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace. Wherefore let all faithful people tell the honour of her name, let the Church, in her foreshadowed, part in her thanksgiving claim; what Christ's mother sang in gladness let Christ's people sing the same. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace. Let us weave our supplications, she with us and we with her, for the advancement of the faithful, for each faithful worshipper, for the doubting, for the sinful, for each heedless wanderer. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace. May the Mother's intercessions on our homes a blessing win, that the children all be prospered, strong and fair and pure within, following our Lord's own footsteps, firm in faith and free from sin. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace. For the sick and for the agèd, for our dear ones far away, for the hearts that mourn in secret, all who need our prayers today, for the faithful gone before us, may the holy Virgin pray. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace. SOLEMN MASS | 7
Praise, O Mary, praise the Father, praise thy Saviour and thy Son, praise the everlasting Spirit, who hath made thee ark and throne; o'er all creatures high exalted, lowly praise the Three in One. Hail Mary, hail Mary, hail Mary, full of grace.

Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: Blessed art thou among women. Let us pray. Almighty Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, thou hast revealed the beauty of thy power by exalting the lowly virgin of Nazareth and making her the mother of our Saviour. May the prayers of this woman clothed with the sun bring Jesus to the waiting world and fill the void of incompletion with the presence of her child, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, saying, Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test. Then Isaiah said: ‘Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary mortals, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel. He shall eat curds and honey by the time he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. Isaiah 7:10-15 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. Galatians 4:4-7 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

HOLY GOSPEL
All stand and turn to face the book of the Gospels In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:1-7

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God, creator and preserver of all things. Because thou didst give Jesus Christ thine only Son to be born for us; who, by the operation of the Holy Spirit, was made very man of the substance of the Virgin Mary his mother; and that without spot of sin, to make us clean from all sin. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious name; evermore praising thee and singing:

All glory be to thee, O Lord our God, who didst make us in thine own image; and, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption. He made there a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again;
who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread; and, when he had given thanks to thee, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” + Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many, for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.” + Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy people do celebrate and make, with these thy holy gifts which we now offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and looking for his coming again with power and great glory.

And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us, and, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, to bless and sanctify these gifts of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the body and blood of thy dearly-beloved Son Jesus Christ. We praise thee, we bless thee, we thank thee and we pray to thee, Lord our God. And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, whereby we offer and present unto thee, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies. Grant, we beseech thee, that all who partake of this holy communion may worthily receive the most precious body and blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and be filled with thy grace + and heavenly benediction; and also that we and all thy whole Church may be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord; By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. The Thurible CLERGY NOTES Summer greetings to you all! It is good to be back. I was down on the Oregon coast and even made it to see the Redwoods in Northern California, all I’ll say is wow! Yes, I was rendered speechless! This week saw the end of the food drive for the Greater Vancouver Food bank and today a dozen boxes were collected by the Food Bank to be taken to their new location in Burnaby and distributed to those who rely on it. Thank you for your enthusiasm and generous donations over the past six weeks.
Looking forward it is 129 days until Christmas (assuming you’re reading this on Sunday). Before we go getting carried away with the countdown, let’s talk about Fall! There is a potential book study in the works, and also some bible studies coming up in September to help us gather ourselves as people arrive home from summer vacations and children and grandchildren head back to school.
I’ll be using the info we gathered on the map downstairs to hold some of these studies in the places where we live, to give everyone the opportunity to attend. In the present, this Sunday we will be observing the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast and its associated doctrine was put in place by Pope Pius XII and teaches that "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory." No one knows for sure what actually happened, but since, as Christians we believe in the resurrection of the body, it’s not a massive stretch. I’m looking forward to seeing you on Sunday and as you return from your holidays.
Inform. Inspire. Invite.
