Take the traditional launch from Pier 3 at Bowness for a short 10 minute journey across the lake to the picturesque Western shore. Here, a Mountain Goat mini bus will be waiting to take you on to the National Trust’s Hill Top (the house of Beatrix Potter), Hawkshead and beyond - even as far as Coniston.

CROSS LAKES EXPERIENCE BOAT - BUS - BOAT SERVICE

The journey to Hill Top takes approximately 20 minutes; Beatrix Potter’s house is open every day except Fridays, (however the garden and shop are open every day). The beautiful village of Hawkshead is a further 10 minutes along the road here you will find a selection of shops and cafés, along with the Beatrix Potter Gallery, displaying a large collection of her original illustrations. Quizzes available for children. The Beatrix Potter Gallery is open every day during June, July, August and every day except Fridays at other times of the year (however, the nearby shop is open every day). You may continue your journey from Hawkshead by bus to Grizedale, and (via another boat) to Coniston. Please ask for the ‘Cross Lakes Experience’ leaflet showing dates, times and connections for this boat-busboat service. Any of the above journeys may be started from Lakeside, Brockhole or Ambleside by using any of our regular ‘steamer’ and launch services (see Windermere Lake Cruises main timetable).
