With another tip of the hat to our late friend Lenore Blunt, I want to continue last month’s conversation with a picture of some of what will be happening soon at Winstanley. One. We should consider every service of worship special. Sometimes, though, our expectancy is a little higher just based on what we know will happen. I think Sunday, July 9, is one of those days. In both morning services we will observe the Lord’s Supper. In the 10:55 service, Keith and Jordan Stumpf will be baptized and Nicholas Flahan will be dedicated. Of course, the most important aspect of any service of worship is the presence of the Holy Spirit, but you should know that I really do anticipate His meeting us on The Hill that day! Two. Vacation Bible School starts that same night July 9. It continues through Friday night, July 14, when we will have a Family Night. Our teaching staff is excited and ready. The building already shows signs of preparation. You can count on energy, excitement, noise, and plenty of activity that week, all in the name of teaching our youngest about Jesus! How about inviting or bring some young friends? Three. Probably not many of you have visited the offices of Metro East Baptist Association at 4955 Old Collinsville Road, but Winstanley is one of the sixty cooperating Southern Baptist churches that is part of MEBA. Now, one of our own, Christine Shepard, is the new
administrative assistant. She will be introduced at an open house there on Sunday, July 16, between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m Four. The first mission team to benefit from the new showers our deacons took the lead in installing will be from Calvary Baptist Church, Sedalia, Missouri, and be led by Taylor Quinley. They will be here July 17-21. Many thanks to Mel Gunter, Tom Golden, Larry Pirtle, Jim Newton, Keith Stumpf, and Art Reames for their work! Five. When we return from a week with Heaven Sent Ministry in Princeton, West Virginia, get ready to hear some good words of testimony. Six. The next visiting mission team hails from Center Grove Baptist Church, Ahoskie, North Carolina. Their pastor and leader Daniel Mullins once served as a summer missionary at the Christian Activity Center and his group will be working there August 6-12. Seven. As I mentioned last month, Eclipse Day at Winstanley is Monday, August 21. Eight. Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 11, Anniversary Day, when we will celebrate paying off our building debt! More to come, my friends. More to come! Grateful to be your pastor, Dr. Steve

Who benefits from youth summer camp? This year I’ve learned that there are several groups who value from this experience. Let’s begin with the most obvious. Students get the privilege of spending a week with their friends from morning until late evening everyday. As a result of this, their relationships with one another grow. They get to know each other much better than they could in any other context. Not only that, but the kids spend their days worshipping God, studying the Bible, and serving the local community. They are pulled out of their normal day-to-day routine and placed in an environment where they are heavily exposed to Bible teaching, preaching, and devotions. You can imagine the opportunity for spiritual awakening and growth in an environment like this. What about the parents? They can benefit from seeing their kids grow more mature in their faith. They may even find that their young one comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus. And this will in turn strengthen and encourage their faith as they witness God working in their children. Leaders? I believe our volunteers grow as they give of their time sacrificially to serve God through student ministry. They have the benefit of investing their lives in the lives of students for several days. Our youth need adults mature in the faith who are willing to lead and guide them. I am so thankful for Ian and Sally and their servant hearts. We wouldn’t have been able to go to camp without our volunteer leaders!

Winstanley as a church? I received comments about the impact that student testimonies had on church members. The church benefits by seeing God moving and at work in our youth. Church members grow as they give their money sacrificially so that youth can attend camp. Thank you Winstanley for sending us to Louisville this year!
