Come along to the City Museum and Westgate and discover Winchester’s fascinating history from its prehistoric past to the present day. Find out the stories behind the museums’ collections of amazing objects. Our exciting displays are all about learning and having fun at the same time. Our City Space gallery in the Discovery Centre shows an exciting programme of

Winchester Photographic Society Annual Exhibition 2013

Artful Celebrate the arrival of summer with this vibrant and colourful

exhibition by a local group of like-minded professional artists and makers, living and working around the Fulflood area of Winchester. Free entry.

Winchester Photographic Society is one of the largest photographic clubs in the south and its annual exhibition attracts entries from not only its own membership but also from photographers far and wide, professional and amateur. This exhibition showcases the cream of these entries. Free entry.

LEGO® Mania Trail

The Big ‘Little’ Dish Come and see the spectacular ‘Blakeway Little’ dish, donated to the City in 1933 and now part of the Civic Silver collection.

See the life-sized LEGO® Roman banquet, made from over 75,000 LEGO® elements. Join in the hunt to find our Roman LEGO® minifigures and be creative at our LEGO® play tables. Enter our LEGO® model competition. Build and customize your own LEGO® minifigure – cost £2.50 a figure. LEGO® Masterclass Learn from the experts! Develop your LEGO® skills by attending a LEGO® masterclass. The session includes making your own LEGO® model to take away.

JUNE

Free LEGO® mosaic making workshop Come and take part in the making of an exciting new LEGO® artwork - a life-sized LEGO® reconstruction of the Sparsholt Roman mosaic. You will make your own unique piece of the mosaic out of LEGO® bricks which will then form part of the finished mosaic artwork.

To Honour a Promise

Winchester Museums will be attending this popular show, taking artefacts and activities out to people in the district. Admission charge to show will apply.

Come along to this exhibition and find out more about the Morn Hill Memorial Project, which aims to commemorate the two million soldiers from many countries who passed through the Morn Hill camps during the First World War. Mike O’Leary storyteller Local weaver of tales, Michael O’Leary will be telling his stories for children of all ages in the City Museum throughout the day. The stories are inspired by folktales of Hampshire – wise women, magic swords, princesses and hollow hills – with music and inspiration drawn from the artefacts in the Museum. There will be four free sessions; at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. A Winchester Festival Event. Free admission, just turn up.

Edwardian Summer

This fascinating family friendly exhibition looks at the period between the end of the Victorian Age and the start of the Great War. Discover what life was like for people in the Edwardian country estates, the rural villages and historic towns like Winchester before their world changed forever. There will be lots of things to do in the exhibition with quizzes, art activities and a country house mystery to solve! Free entry

Edwardian make and take Taking inspiration from the Edwardian Summer exhibition this free drop-in activity is suitable for age 8+. All children to be accompanied by an adult.

With stunning costumes, fabrics and other artefacts this exhibition will bring alive the vibrant and colourful tradition of Kathakali dance and drama. From its origins in Kerala in south-west India, visitors will be taken on a journey into the rich cultural heritage of the Kerala community, some of whom have left their homeland to settle in Hampshire. Free entry.
