Wind Ridge Publishing

I

n an ever-evolving media market, Wind Ridge Publishing, Inc. (WRP) is a steadfast news outlet for Vermont’s diverse readership. Since printing our first newsletter over 40 years ago, we now proudly publish the Shelburne News and The Citizen community newspapers as well as Destination VT magazine. As a source for hometown news, we believe these are not only our publications; they are yours. Our weekly papers greet every Shelburne, Charlotte, and Hinesburg resident at their mailbox, free of charge, and our magazine is distributed throughout greater Burlington and beyond. While the Green Mountain State is our audience, it’s also our home. Locally-owned WRP succeeds due to mutual support with other companies. By distributing to hundreds of homes and businesses, we hope our publications help our communities and neighboring establishments thrive. We don’t just publish for Vermonters – we publish because of Vermonters. The Shelburne News originates as a newsletter, first printed in 1967. In 1992, the Shelburne News transitions into a weekly publication.

DestinationVT hits shelves in 1999 as a monthly publication supported by the Burlington International Airport. In 2006, the Shelburne News first hosts the Shelburne Community School community service internship program. WRP begins publicizing and marketing the Holiday Stroll in 2007. This event is a community-wide celebration of the Christmas season, coordinated by Shelburne’s Parks and Recreation department. Beginning in 2010, WRP sponsors Shelburne Museum’s annual canine extravaganza, “Shelburne Museum

Goes to the Dogs.” A portion of event proceeds benefit local dog rescue groups and humane societies.

WRP purchases The Charlotte Citizen in 2011 and expands coverage to Hinesburg under its new entity—The Citizen. In 2013, DestinationVT transforms into a quarterly arts and culture magazine. Each issue features local restaurants and activities, talented artists and writers, as well as socially-responsible Vermont companies. Writer and Charlotte resident Rebecca Foster begins the ecologically-minded editorial, “Carpe Greenum,” in July 2013. After one issue, VTDigger.org requests to publish the column online, a great honor for The Citizen. In 2014, Destination VT expands distribution into St. Albans.

Dear Wind Ridge Publishing, I would like to thank the Shelburne News for helping make our new store, Common Deer, so successful. Our advertising rep has made us feel so welcome. During our busy holiday season, he worked around our schedule to make sure our ads made deadline—and also kept us informed of upcoming events in the Village. Our customers tell us on a regular basis that they saw our ad in the Shelburne News. Supporting our local paper is very important, and it is evident that the Shelburne community reads and supports their local paper. We look forward to doing a lot of advertising in the Shelburne News.

— Sharon W. Beal Co-Owner of Common Deer

“What Shelburne Reads”

T

he Shelburne News has been a community staple for more than four decades, first published in 1967 as “Shelburne: A Newsletter” by resident Phyllis Deming. The paper transitioned into a weekly publication in 1992, now distributed free-of-charge to every Shelburne residence and area business. As Shelburne is ranked the third most affluent city in Vermont, we provide advertisers with a rare avenue for marketing precisely to Vermont’s highest-income consumers. Shelburne News delivers the latest news directly from municipal meetings; Police, Fire and Rescue, and Parks and Recreation Departments; as well as the Pierson Library. We work to serve

our towns with free calendar postings and nonbusiness classified listings. Each issue spotlights one of our thousands of notable neighbors in the column “People of Shelburne” and features a local high school athlete in “Covering the Field.” We are dedicated to giving back to the community well beyond our newspaper pages. Shelburne News hosts Shelburne Community School’s community service internship program, and proudly sponsors the annual canine extravaganza and benefit event, “Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs.” We are connected 24 hours a day via Facebook, Twitter, and www. shelburnenews.com, which receives over 10,000 visits per month.

RP purchased The Charlotte Citizen in May 2011 and, by September, expanded coverage to Hinesburg under its new entity, The Citizen. As the fresh face in town, we harmonize neighboring hometown happenings into one convenient publication, distributing subscription-free to every Charlotte and Hinesburg home as well as area businesses. As Charlotte is ranked among the top 10 most affluent cities in Vermont, The Citizen provides advertisers a rare avenue for marketing precisely to Vermont’s highest-in-

come consumers. We are grateful to have been welcomed into these vibrant towns, as our publication only prospers through community support. The Citizen delivers the latest news directly from municipal meetings; Police, Fire and Rescue, and Parks and Recreation Departments; as well as Charlotte and Carpenter-Carse Libraries. We work to serve our towns with free calendar postings and nonbusiness classified listings. The Citizen stays connected through www.thecitizenvt.com, Facebook, and Twitter.

Each issue features local restaurants and activities, talented artists and writers, as well as socially-responsible Vermont companies. The magazine meets its readers from Vermont’s Welcome Centers; lobbies of area hotels, restaurants, and supermarkets; BTV Airport; and 24/7 via www.destinationvt.com, Twitter, and Facebook.
