Welcome to the 2016 Tecumseh Corn Festival! This year marks our 41st anniversary of the Tecumseh Corn Festival that begins Thursday, Aug. 25 and runs until Sunday, Aug. 28. We continue to have the pleasure of working with great community partnerships. This wonderful Tecumseh tradition is an indication of summer’s end, but with that is the summer-long anticipation we’ve come to expect of this festival each year! Part of the excitement is introducing changes that keep the Corn Festival fresh and once again this year is no different in that respect. The Corn Festival also owes much of its success to its loyal community partners. The Corn Festival wouldn’t be what it is without the Optimist Club Corn Booth featuring the delicious corn provided generously by Bonduelle; the Knights of Columbus Festival Tent; the exciting rides of Carter Shows; and the great food and festival fare that all of our Corn Festival booths and entertainers offer.

41ST ANNUAL TECUMSEH CORN FESTIVAL

Toronto-based a cappella group a mix of five people from five very different backgrounds and musical genres Eh440 started harmonizing together in 2012. Using just their voices, this Toronto-based a cappella group has wow’d audiences across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. On the heels of their award-winning 2014 debut release Turn Me Up, their next full-length project will be dropped in September 2016. And they’re very excited about it! But their journey really started over a decade and half ago. As kids, Janet Turner and Stacey Kay used to compete against each other in singing contests. The first time they met, Stacey was just eight years old and Janet a little older. Over the years they each took their turn winning various contests and even though some competitors took it a little too seriously, they actually cheered on the other and became lifelong friends. While on a North American Broadway Tour for Godspell a few years ago Stacey thought she heard a voice from the heavens – was it Jesus? Well, Jake Stern was playing the role of Jesus in the production!

Years later, Stacey approached Jake about joining Eh440 and the fit was perfect. Jake has been performing professionally in theatres and film/TV since he was in high school, and the opportunity to travel the world while sharing his talents is a dream come true for him. Luke Stapleton (a.k.a. the Human Record) started beatboxing as a small child. Coming from a “show biz family”, Luke would listen to his dad play the drums in their house and recreate the sounds using only his mouth. He also maintains that his childhood stutter was gone upon the introduction of music to his life. “My brain was faster than my mouth”, he claims. If you see him beatbox now, you can see quite clearly, that his mouth has caught up! Joe Oliva started his musical journey later than most kids who dream of being on stage. In his last year of high school, Joe joined his school choir after the director heard his bass voice barrelling down the school halls and begged him to join. And he hasn’t stopped singing since.

AUGUST 25-28, 2016 13 13

After coming together through the Toronto Independent Music Awards, Eh440 was born – their first gig was performing the national anthems for the Valentine’s Day 2012 Toronto Raptors vs. New York Knicks NBA game. Singing in an arena before 20,000 people? Pretty good first gig! So, Eh440 is a mix of five people from five very different backgrounds and musical genres. Joe’s been a low bass singer his entire life, Luke’s an urban beatboxer, Janet identifies as a country/pop singer, Stacey’s soul/pop, and Jake likes contemporary vocal/pop music. Together they form “an unforgettable combination of crazy beatboxing, sassy rapping, killer harmonies, and fresh, urban, R&B-influenced compositions.”

Border City Barkers

When “That will never happen to me” happens.

The Border City Barkers are a group of dog enthusiasts who promote education and safety in the sport of agility. Dog agility is a fast paced and energetic sport. There are many obstacles including: jumps, tunnels and weave poles. Safety, accuracy and fun are the keys to enjoying agility. One of the most important benefits of agility is the bond that is created between the handler and the dog. A trust is required in order for the dog to feel safe and open to learning the different types of equipment. Agility also promotes a healthy lifestyle for your dog. It eliminates the “couch potato” syndrome which can lead to destructive behaviour at your home. It can also build endurance and put fitness into your dogs life. Confidence is built through praise and reassurance. With each accomplishment, a new milestone is reached making your dog feel comfortable and eager to learn more. Socialization is important with owning any dog. Supervised agility training provides a controlled environment where dogs can improve their behaviour around both people and other dogs. The Border City Barkers will be giving dog agility demonstrations on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. in front of the Bonduelle Stage

Does Your Vacuum Not Suck?

A ‘note for note’ musical experience! Windsorʼs own Greatest Hits Live presents ʻThe Ultimate Classic Rock Showʼ Comprised of six of southwestern Ontario’s finest musicians, and with over a century of combined experience, Greatest Hits Live takes the art of reproducing the greatest rock music of our time to its highest level. Based in Windsor, Greatest Hits Live specialize in providing the listener with a precise “note for note” musical experience, as well as a dynamic live show reminiscent of the glory days of arena rock. With outstanding lead and backing vocals, blazing guitars, amazing keyboard accuracy and thunderous bass and drums, Greatest Hits Live is a treat for all the senses and a concert performance that will leave you wanting more. Greatest Hits Live is best known for its amazing “The Best of Styx and Journey” tribute show, but can also perform high calibre classic rock tributes including “Best of Canadian Rock”, “Best of 70s Rock” and “Best of 80s Rock” or a mash up of all the shows “The Ultimate Classic Rock Show” to appeal to a diverse demographic. Given the job of reproducing three decades worth of the best-known and most popular rock songs, Greatest Hits Live delivers like no other musical act. The members are constantly honing and refining the songs and sounds until the finished product is exactly how they want it: a high-quality tribute to the music that has become the soundtrack of our lives.
