WELCOME TO IWINETC 2017

On behalf of Wine Pleasures and the entire team behind IWINETC 2017, Welcome to Sicily and thank you for joining us for what I’m sure will be a very productive and enjoyable week. I would also like to take this opportunity to say an enormous thank you to all the wine tourism experience providers in Sicily and especially in the Catania region for their fantastic support. There’s no doubt that wine and culinary tourism continues to look to a bright future with many published studies (some presented here at the conference in the talk programme) pointing to continued optimism. IWINETC brings together industry professionals from over 40 countries and it remains our passion to deliver a world-class insightful conference talk programme, to drive profitable business connections at both the exhibition area and workshop event and create inspirational networking opportunities during evening events and post conference wine tasting tours. IWINETC kicked off in style with a Welcome Reception held in the Grand Hotel Villa Itría, where some 150 conference delegates enjoyed an evening of networking. Annually, IWINETC brings together a community of around 300 wine and wine and culinary tourism professionals. We strive hard to include talks based on needs and for that reason the conference programme offers 2 talks to choose from at each of the scheduled session slots and if that is not enough there is an exhibition area to keep you busy with plenty of opportunities to discover grape escape ideas and taste wines. Some exhibitors will be running competitions and raffles so make sure you take time out to participate. My hope is that your time with us in Sicily is a memorable one and you gain valuable knowledge from the conference talk programme and make many profitable business connections with industry professionals across the globe. Don’t forget to tweet @iwinetc during the IWINETC 2017 #iwinetc Have a great IWINETC!

In fact, it is often the brand’s popularity with consumers that has led some of the New World’s best known brands to create all-encompassing visitor destinations and genuine experiences that go well beyond the humble wine tasting. Oenotourism Its Role In Connecting Producers & Consumers Speaker Donna Amanda Jackson, Amandini Branding Consultants Theme Branding & Marketing

Oenotourism has become the cornerstone of many wineries marketing campaigns. Connecting with the winery links the consumer and the winemaking team. Storytelling is the new marketing. Oenotourism makes Financial sense- Some Case studies of success stories. Wine growers have realised that spreading the financial risk of the Mono-culture of wine, by offering accommodation and hospitality, makes perfect sense. Winemakers have many invariables to deal with including weather, pricing, market trends among the challenges they face. Oenotourism, apart from its benefits in Marketing, also offers another source of revenue and can be managed by the family.

SESSION 1.3 Auditorium Etna

15.00 – 15.45

Promoting Wine Tourism Through Wine Events, Republic Of Moldova’s Practice When tourists visit a destination for the purpose of attending an event, they tend to stay before and after the event as well. That enables the sale of products the destination has to offer. Events increase the level of local businesses, fill hotel capacities, and in a long term perspective, they enhance the infrastructure, quality of life of the local population and add additional value to the identity of destination. In addition, many destinations have a seasonal problem, which means that tourist flows are concentrated in a relatively short period of the year. Events can play an important role in overcoming these problems and attract tourists during the off-season periods as well. Events can have a significant effect on the formation of destination image and can help with promoting, positioning and branding it, which can contribute to a more favorable perception as a potential tourist destination. The more recognizable events the destination has, the more it is attractive for the tourists.

Speaker Veronica Tomescu, Winetours Moldova Theme Branding & Marketing

My speech will include the story of creation of the 3 main wine events in Moldova, unique in Europe: The National Wine Day, The Wine Vernissage and The Wine Run. We will learn about their local and international impact. As well it will include the success story of local wineries which entered the market through their creative wine events: Harvest Day & Open Doors Day, Celebration of the Equinox, Must Fest, The Cellar White Night.

SESSION 1.3 Ciclopi

15.00 – 15.45

Natural Wine Tourism - A Different Approach Natural wine is based on a different approach to winemaking and viticulture compared to conventional wine. The main aim of wine tourism is to build an experience and to leave memories. In the case of natural wines this possibility is heightened to a different level. What makes natural wines so unique is that they are handcrafted, featuring the singular character of its creator. Natural wine tourism becomes in this sense a valuable opportunity to meet unique and exciting people, making unique and exciting wines and to create a personal contact and relationship with them. The aim is therefore not only a “wine destination” but also a “human destination”. This session will discuss the evolution of wine tourism and the importance of the human factor in achieving a unique, unrepeatable experience.

Are we there yet? Australia’s Wine Tourism (R)Evolution From the days of meat pies and Holden cars, where city folk visited wineries to stock up on bulk wine and top up their port barrels, to the current landscape of sophisticated winery dining and pretty young things in limousines, Australia has journeyed far. And while domestic visitors are flocking to the nation’s wine regions, the perception of Australia as a genuine culinary tourism destination still raises the eyebrows of many prospective international visitors. But the cork is well and truly out of the bottle and some savvy marketing campaigns are now shining a very bright light on the nation’s wine tourism offerings – with some startling results.

Connecting Your Tourism Brand to the Consumer

Speaker Judith Lewis, deCabbit Consultancy Theme Branding & Marketing

Understanding where a wine tourism consumer is open to encountering your brand is one of the easiest and yet most difficult things to get right. From understanding where receptivity to receiving a travel and tourism marketing message begins (well before the search) and ends (once trust with a site is established – not after booking), through to identifying those opportunities within the online travel and tourism marketplace, planning your route to market can suddenly seem less clear. In this session we’ll investigate the specific digital touch points best aligned with the wine travel and tourism vertical your business could leverage, how consumers interact with those touch points during their journey to selecting a grape escape destination and then a package, and finish with where traveller interaction may be headed in the future. This session is best suited to those wine and culinary tourism businesses who are looking to develop a future-proof digital market approach and better understand the opportunities which are overlooked by many travel and tourism operators/agents.

ABOUT US An ancient millstone at the foot of Mount Etna, has undergone a patient restructuring and recovery by the Fischetti Family, whose aim is to restore the old charm. The enclosed vineyard is situated around 650 metres from the sea level. The traditional sapling plantation allows the exclusive manual workmanship throughout the year. Our plantation is composed exclusively by indigenous vines of the Etna Mount, which are 80 years old on average, and which present numerous ultra centennial subjects of the pre-phyloxera period. Our motto represents the taste and the quality derived from one of the most beautiful territories in the world. Our mission is to extract the best of what we dispose, and having an important experience in the field of Etna D.O.C., we point at offering something to remember and not just a mere momentary pleasure; simply an authentic and proper fragment of an admirable volcano.

The only Etnean grower to be named “Italian Winery of the Year” by Gambero Rosso, repeatedly praised by Wine Spectator, Decanter and others, it is regarded worldwide as the pioneer of fine winamking on Etna and an iconic producer able to set a new standard and inspire others. Benanti offers a true high end Wine & Culture experience on three sites on Mount Etna, in Viagrande (South-Eastern slope), Milo (East) and Rovittello (North), each with a very distinct and unique character. The 18th century estate, the barrel room, the old palmento, the cellar, breathtaking landscapes, the extinct crater, solidified lava flows, pre-phylloxera vines, selected vintages, certified sommeliers, local produce and family recipes: a truly unique, comprehensive and customized cultural experience.
