Recycled Steel Flamingo Outdoor Art Another hot seller from Lisa’s Autumn 2014 collection, the fabulous neon tint pink Flamingo. Cut from industrial recycled steel, the art is backed with neon pink tint (see through). Designed to wear with the elements and rust slowly. Rust can be removed (as required) with white vinegar and then a rinse with water. Alternatively, sea water and water can be used to speed up the rusting process. “The Wolfgang and Rose Project is my own fun and creative way to release the daily stresses of being a full time mum.”

Tell us a bit about your business?

Wolfgang and Rose is made up of myself, Rose Miller, and my very faithful poodle muse Wolfgang. I am an Australian artist residing in Sydney, Australia.

I guess my tagline would be “A busy mum who paints for creative sanity”. I’ve been painting for over 10 years and Wolfgang and Rose is a brand that I have developed apart from my previous creative works.

These particular paintings are playful and bright, with a strong design element, created in the fine art of oil painting.

How did you develop Wolfgang and Rose?

I had worked successfully in the creative industry in the field of design and fine art for over a decade, eight of them had been in Europe, which was truly amazing.

Having always worked from my home studio, I thought it would be easy to continue working from home while raising my first child, but after three stressful years of trying to balance both roles, I decided to put my artistic career on hold and raise my children full time until they were all of school age.

When my youngest child was born last year, I felt that I really needed some kind of structured creative outlet.

I couldn’t go back to full time work, or commit to exhibiting in commercial galleries, but I still wanted to produce art while being at home. That’s when I decided to create “The Wolfgang and Rose Project”, where I had challenged myself to complete a painting every few weeks and track my progress through my corresponding blog.

The hardest part of the challenge is actually finding the time to be creative, in contrast the actual painting part is relatively easy and straight forward!

These paintings were never intended to be exhibited or for sale, but after a few months and a few paintings later, I gained a following through my blog and the opportunity to start selling my original paintings and prints online arose.

These works are completely different from what I used to create in my previous artistic roles, but they are a true reflection of my current stage in life, hence the bright and playful themes.

I paint to please myself, not for any gallery or art agency as I had done before.

The Wolfgang and Rose Project is my own fun and creative way to release the daily stresses of being a full time mum, while also connecting to the outside world, as I am homebound most days of the week.

What inspires you in your designs?

My previous professional creative works were highly conceptual and even quite dark, so with my Wolfgang and Rose paintings I am totally free to create just for the sake of making something pretty without having to justify its purpose. I am now driven by colour, design and eye pleasing imagery. I am in happy place when I paint, so that is something that I want to be expressed in my artwork.

How would you like to see your business expand?

The Wolfgang and Rose Project was never meant to be a business, it was created as a form of stress release from the busy and chaotic life I lead as a full time Mum. I never expected it to blossom the way that it has, so I am truly grateful of the support and exposure that I have been given. It would be impossible to paint more than I do now, given the limited time I have to actually paint, so I am just happy to keep painting these works that make me feel good, and hopefully inspire others to be creative in any situation that they are in.

Tell us about yourself I am a mum of two (under three) a media director by trade, co founder of Charlie and Rosie and I live in West Footscray.

A self confessed lover of cheeseburgers and passionate about providing inner west mums with part time work and minimising the impact on the environment.

I work with my mum, Rosemary (Rosie) who is a qualified dressmaker with over forty years experience, and I have close to twenty years experience in advertising.

Charlie and Rosie was born in 2012 soon after my son Charlie was born!

We wanted to find a way to restore precious artwork and deliver it in a unique handmade solution” How did you develop your interest in homewares?

I am not sure what the catalyst was but for as long as I can remember I have loved changing my living spaces to make them feel more like home (to me).

When I was eight years old I asked my mum

Where do you source your beautiful homewares products? And what is important to you when selecting these amazing products?

I have always loved a cuppa and a good old fashioned home and lifestyle mag, but now I am more inclined to use the internet to get ideas. Pinterest is great love of mine now, and I can search different trends for hours. Great for triggering ideas and/or developing ideas that you were not quite sure how to execute and then store for later.

Can you give us some hot tips for styling and selecting furniture?

There are actually no rules in my book. The less structure the better. Colour co-ordinating and only matching like with like works for some people but to me it feels a bit manufactured and less comfy or homely. My idea of a beautiful home is well lived in and full of things that the owner loves like artwork, handmade pieces of furniture and restored and op shop finds. Pieces for the home don’t have to be expensive to be comfy or to look great. DIY Everybody loves a little DIY every now and then so why not try your hand at these beautiful and practical projects

TRIPOD FLOOR LAMP Sarah M Dorsey shows you how to create a copper tripod floor lap with amazing results

WHAT YOU NEED: 2x4 wood 1/2â&#x20AC;? copper plumbing pipe at your desired length 3 x copper end caps lamp shade lamp kit spray paint light globe

STEP ONE: Draw up a template where the holes need to be drilled and work out the angles you require prior to drilling.

Using a cup, mark the circle around the holes and cut out with a jigsaw and sand down.

Tip: A template is available on Sarah M Dorsey website. Paint first before assembling. Give a couple of even coats of black spray paint and let dry.

STEP TWO: Slice a hole in one of the legs at the bottom (on the outside) to fit the wire through.

Using the same leg drill a hole at the top (on the inside) for the wire come out.

STEP THREE: Thread wire through the leg and connect to the socket. Assemble the required elements from the lamp kit.

STEP FIVE: Polish the copper legs and attach your chosen lamp shade. Insert a light globe.

Plug it in and enjoy!

STEP FOUR: Attach the copper end caps to the base of the legs to finish them off.

DRIFTWOOD FRAMES Sarah M Dorsey shows you how to cover a few Ikea Ribba frames with a hobby board or poplar wood with stunning effect

DIY STEP ONE: Remove the glass from the frame and lightly sand back so glue sticks.

WHAT YOU NEED: Two Ikea Ribba frames, hobby board or poplar wood, wood glue, clamp and miter saw.

STEP TWO: Using a miter saw, we started in the corner, cutting the wood at a 45° angle. Put a little wood glue on the back and place in desired position. Repeat using straight cuts for the center, try to mix up the patterns on the wood for effect.

STEP THREE: Clamp in place until the glue sets and thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s it!

I decided to leave the inside edge of the frame black to contrast the white mat, but a fun pop of color would look great too!

Build up from a base of natural materials such as wood and add color with soft furnishings, art and walls so that if your tastes change, you can move things around easily and with less expense.  Create ‘vignettes’ around your home of pieces that are special to you. the pieces appeals to my habit of moving furniture around regularly at home, Modern Times in Collingwood is also great as it has gorgeous mid century pieces and contemporary Australian art.

What is your favourite trend at the moment?

Texture and wood! It’s great to see natural materials such as stone and wood being incorporated in interiors with interesting textures such as felt, leather and metal. Naturally we are loving the Northern European style of blonde wood in interiors such as birch and beech. They are such versatile hues and complement so many decorating styles.

Where can you be found?

Clifton Hill and Melbourne’s inner north is my stomping ground. On the weekend, you might find me with my boys on a coastal walking track on the Mornington Peninsula or at my parents’ house for Sunday pasta!
