Benefits of Personal Training

Serious athletes have long used personal trainers to enhance their performance in competition. Movie stars are known to hire personal trainers to keep them fitting into their Oscar gowns. But the people who benefit most from personal training are ordinary men and women seeking to be stronger and function more effectively in their everyday lives. Working with a trainer, anyone can achieve their fitness goals—goals as modest as touching your toes again or as ambitious as preparing to run a marathon. Whether you want to lose weight, regain flexibility, develop speed or simply feel good again, personal training is an activity from which you will continue to reap benefits in years to come. Our personal trainers’ main objectives are to assist, guide, and educate those who wish to experience a greater ease and physical ability in their lives.

TAI CHI Master Hoon Lee

HAPKIDO Master Hoon Lee

Tai Chi is a low-impact martial art developed to improve circulation, tone muscles, increase flexibility, improve posture, enhance balance and induce relaxation. Often Tai Chi is studied for its health benefits but this art also has practical and calming benefits for daily life as well. Tai Chi is used by martial arts practitioners to enhance the study of the other art forms. Tai Chi class on Tuesdays covers cultivation of mind, body and spirit by performing a series of Tai Chi and Qi Gong movements and postures as a synchronized group meditation. Qi Gong is the Chinese philosophy and practice of aligning breath, physical activity and awareness for mental, spiritual and physical health. Tai Chi class on Thursdays covers principle and advance techniques of Yang style Tai Chi. In this class students study the traditional forms in depth and also learn meditation, partner sensitivity training and utilize the sword, knife, staff, fan and Qi Gong practices.

Hapkido, the newest addition to the growing stable of Winnetka Community House martial arts programs, is a dynamic Korean style martial art primarily focusing on self-defense without injury to the aggressor. Many techniques learned in Hapkido training can be integrated into daily life, such as falling techniques, personal safety and situational awareness. The training includes kicking, punching, throwing, falling, pressure points, sparring and more.

Creative Paws uses positive reinforcement training methods to improve the relationship between dog and handler by providing an effective means of communication and understanding as the foundation for learning. We believe that training your dog should be enjoyable for you and your dog! Creative Paws, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Ashlee Trotter, BS, CPDT-KA, and provides group classes and private lessons for dog obedience training and behavior problems. Ashlee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Michigan State University. Prior to pursuing her dog training interests she honed her skills of positive reinforcement training while working with zoo animals at facilities in the Midwest. She has been recognized for several years as a Canine Good Citizen evaluator by the American Kennel Club, as well as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, an affiliate organization of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the first organization to offer a national standard for trainer certification. Ashlee’s competition dog Spirit is the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) number one ranked German Wirehaired Pointer in agility for 2008–2012. He is the second of his breed to earn an AKC Master Agility Championship title, as well as the only German Wirehaired Pointer to reach the finals of an AKC National Agility event, a feat Ashlee has handled him to accomplish twice. Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants’ safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. Due to the difficulty and high cost of obtaining liability insurance, the agency providing liability coverage for Winnetka Community House requires the execution of the following Waiver and Release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please read this form carefully, and be aware in participating in the program(s) listed on this page, you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries you might sustain arising out of the activities of this program. Support WCH – Donate to the Annual Fund Today! Since our founding in 1911, Winnetka Community House remains one of the few privately funded community houses in the United States. We are an extension of your home, and with your help, we will continue to flourish for many generations to come! Proceeds of operations represent 84% of our revenue; philanthropy accounts for the remaining 16%, and the Annual Fund is the anchor of our fundraising efforts. Last year, contributions to the Annual Fund played a vital role in allowing us to: • offer new classes. • purchase new equipment for programs and the Fitness Centre. • enhance our technological capabilities. • make needed improvements to our building.
