Performing Arts Mondern Squares (Square Dancing) This is today’s Square Dancing, and it’s probably not what you think it is. It is not fancy dance steps, country music, frilly clothes or cowboy shirts. Modern Squares is just walking. The music you walk to is varied, ranging from the Beatles to modern hits. It is casual and fun. In addition, Modern Squares is great exercise for the body and brain. You’ll walk several miles a night. And your mind will be challenged as you work with seven others on your team (square) to master the plays (calls) and apply them to your formation. Modern Squares is teamwork. You’re working a real-time puzzle with seven other people. And when you nail the outcome, it’s really quite exhilirahting. Modern Squares is for everyone, couples looking for a date night, singles looking for a social outing, and families as well. (Registration for children 10-14 will be accepted only when a parent is also registered for the class.) Come see what Modern Squares is at the FREE introductory party September 12 from 7:30 to 9:30pm. Age: 15+

Introduction to Improv for Business There is a reason why so many businesses are hiring improvisation schools to come in and teach workshops: It takes a large set of skills to get onto a stage and create an entire show based on one suggestion. Those skills are applicable to any business: listening intently, building off of someone else’s ideas, and most importantly, never checking out in the middle of an important presentation. Whether you’re trying to learn how to have your voice heard, or just trying to open up your office to creativity, you’ll find that the same improv skills that make performers look so brilliant on stage, will make you perform better in the office. Fall 2016

Meditation and Mindfulness for Beginners Meditation and mindfulness are the two words that have been promoted as the cure -all for our stressful lives. But what is meditation and mindfulness? Does the practice of meditation and mindfulness lead to a serene, stress-free, perfect life? No, life isn’t perfect. However, the practice of meditation has been shown to reduce stress, boost immunity, increase happiness, and lower blood pressure. Learning the art of meditation and mindfulness can help you listen better, think more clearly, focus better, and be more compassionate. Many people try to meditate and stop because it becomes another addition to their to-do list. And many don’t begin because they are afraid that they can’t find the time. This class will help you understand the art of meditation and mindfulness, and most important integrate these practices into your daily lives. Jeffra Nicholson started her career as a teacher, and college administrator. Jeffra left education and entered the education publishing industry as an Education Consultant and then as a Marketer, where stress became her constant companion. Jeffra meditated off and on throughout her twenties, but began to have a serious meditation practice to help reduce the stress in her life and to have more balance. Jeffra has been meditating for over 30 years. She has also written a book, The Tao of Mia and Leo, discussing her personal journey to find balance and contentment, and how she learned the importance of mediation and mindfulness. Jeffra has also practiced Yoga for over 15 years and is a licensed Body Work Therapist. Age: 18+

(847) 242-0687 www.Hakafa.org • CongHakafa@hakafa.org Congregation Hakafa is a dynamic Reform congregation on Chicago’s North Shore. Hakafa is a circle of caring people, families and friends who wish to worship, study, and to help one another and the world in which we live. Services held Fridays, year-round; visitors welcome. Religious School and Hebrew School classes are held at the Glencoe Park District’s Takiff Center and High Holidays Services are held at the Wilmette Junior High School.

For over 50 years, we have brought people of diverse beliefs together in a community of shared values. Our weekly services are not led by clergy. Instead, we invite highly regarded speakers to present on a wide range of topics that provide inspiration and deeper appreciation for the world in which we live. We focus on values and wisdom drawn from many sources, not dogma. As a Unitarian Universalist congregation, we affirm and promote UU’s seven Principles, such as “we accept one another and encourage each individual’s spiritual growth”. Music is another source of spiritual inspiration in our weekly services. And our Religious Explorations program provides children and teens spiritual and cultural literacy. Sunday service and Religious Explorations class at 10:30 a.m., September through May. Visitors are always welcome.

T O TAL

Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants’ safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. Due to the difficulty and high cost of obtaining liability insurance, the agency providing liability coverage for Winnetka Community House requires the execution of the following Waiver and Release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please read this form carefully, and be aware in participating in the program(s) listed on this page, you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries you might sustain arising out of the activities of this program. WAIVER AND RE LE ASE OF ALL C LAIMS As a participant in the program, I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury, and I agree to assume the full risk of any injuries, including death, damages or loss, regardless of severity, which I may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with such program. I agree to waive and relinquish all claims I may have as a result of participating in the program against Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees. I do hereby fully release and discharge Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or loss which I may have or which may accrue to me on account of my participation. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or losses sustained by me or arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the program. In the event of emergency, I authorize Winnetka Community House officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care, and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services required. All participants agree that any photography taken while participating in a class, special event or use of a facility may be used for promotional purposes Winnetka Community House. Participants agree to receive emails from Winnetka Community House. REFU N D AND P RORATE I NFORMATION Full refunds will be issued for courses that are cancelled by Winnetka Community House due to insufficient registration. A refund, less a 10% service charge (not to exceed $25), may be granted if the refund request is received five full working days prior to the start of the program. No refunds will be allowed after this time unless a medical condition develops and a written explanation from a physician on his/her letterhead is presented. Due to advanced reservation requirements, no refunds for trips, outings, or special events will be given. Classes may be prorated if you would like to enroll in a class after it has started, provided the instructor has space, and allows for late registration. The supervisor must approve the prorated amount.

Please list any specific medical allergies, medications, chronic illness or other conditions which staff should be aware of:

Winnetka Community House operates in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you believe you or your child need accommodations to facilitate participation in Winnetka Community House program(s) for which you are registering, please check box.
