Australia’s biggest selling racing paper The Valley kicks off three days of stakes racing in spectacular style this Friday, with the running of the $2 million Group 1 Manikato Stakes. On page 2, we catch up with the very buoyant trainer of leading contender VEIGHT.

This week, one of the great weekends on the Australian sporting calendar is upon us, with the AFL grand final, the NRL preliminary finals and Group 1 racing in two cities. We kick off on Friday night, as the Valley lights return. Opening night is headlined by the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1000m), where crack sprinter I Wish I Win will be looking to get back on the winning list ahead of the Everest. Rosehill is the venue in Sydney on Saturday for the Golden Rose and Golden Pendant, Saturday's Melbourne racing is at Sandown, where the Group 3 Sandown Stakes is the feature. Queensland metro action is at Twoowoomba for the Weetwood Handicap while it's Black Heart Bart Stakes day at Belmont.
